What a week that was (in P4a!!!)

We all came back to school on Tuesday well rested from our holiday. We had singing with Mrs Gray and managed to do the daily mile.

On Wednesday we began to learn about the different rules that religions have. Some of us started in the Boccia lunch club- this was great fun, but very tiring. In PE we began atheletic circuit training, this was tiring too!

Thursday was an excellent day in P4a, Kieran came to visit AND we went to the Peel. At the Peel we met 2 rangers, Gordon and Will, who taught us all about trees, what they need to grow and how important they are. We studied and drew some of the trees. We also played a number of games which helped us learn about the four things trees need to grow and why they are so important to us.

After that we came back to school and had a picnic outside, this was great as we all got the chance to talk and play in the fresh air 🙂

Next we made Quidditich hoops out of tyres- this was a great piece of combined team work. Kieran had not been able to work out how to get the hoops to school so we solved the problem using a Growth Mindset. We then made broom sticks from fallen twigs and used a football to try the new resources out.

We are super excited to start our Quidditch lessons next Thursday, we think we are the only primary school in Scotland (and possibly the UK) to have these lessons!!

Today we had an assembly on Growth Mindsets, it was very interesting and reminded us that sometimes things are hard, but if we keep trying we will succeed. 🙂

Have a lovely weekend, hopefully there will be lots of sun!

Easter holidays have arrived :)

This week we had lots of different activities.

We did a maths check up at the beginning of the week- we know lots now that we didn’t know when we started in P4!

On Wednesday the P5 classes came to visit us for a museum tour. We told them all about Ancient Egypt and then led a series of activities for them. They really enjoyed the visit and we loved teaching them.

We held the first ever Ancient Egypt’s Got Talent show. It was a very tightly fought contest, well us Gods can be tempremental you know. Our judges, Simon (Josh) Cowell, David (Kieran) Walliams, Cheryl (Mrs Hutton) Cole and Amanda (Mrs McAlpine) Holden had a tough job to do. Ant n Dec (Mrs Newton) tried hard to keep control but it was a tricky job! Our winners were Rebecca, Isla, Amelie and Freya- well done, you are great goddesses!

On Thursday we had our Easter Bonnet parade and song. We think our bonnets were the best!

We reached our Dojo target this term and got to watch The Prince of Egypt, it was a really good movie and linked our learning from RME together with our IDL theme.

Kieran (Mrs Newton’s youngest son) came into school to talk to us about Quidditch- we loved hearing about it and are even more excited about him coming back next term to teach Mrs Newton and us to play.

Today we walked to church for our Easter Service- thank you to Mrs Manlove, Mrs Rae and Mrs McFadden for walking with us. We all sang beautifully and the rain stayed away.

We  have lots of trips planned next term- on Thursday 20th April we are going to the Peel for a Ranger workshop- packed lunches are needed.

On June 5th we will be going to the Marches Book Festival and having a picnic on the way- packed lunches needed again.

On the 12th June we are going to the National Museum in Edinburgh for an Ancient Egypt tour and workshop- again we will need a packed lunch.

Full details of the last two trips will come out in May.

This weeks picture will be on Dojo later today or tomorrow. Have a great Easter break, when we come back we will only have 11 weeks left in P4 🙁

Crazy Hair and Comic Relief :)

This week we have been continuing to work on using formal methods for adding and subtracting. It has been tricky but we are all getting better. Next week we will be doing check ups, we know we will do great.

In Big Writing we began to write our newspaper articles, we have finished the planning and next week we will complete the newspapers. We have all written about slightly different things so it should make a great newspaper.

In Science we made posters on Water Aid, Keeping Clean and Animals. Some of the girls raised money for Water Aid by baking, and selling, cakes around where they lived. Mrs Newton was very sad that there were none left (and none of them were gluten free 🙁 )

We have almost completed our Ancient Egypt topic. This week we have been planning our Gods- next week we will become Gods and perform at a special Ancient Egypt’s Got Talent event. Then we will become guides for P5 as we show them our museum and help them make cartouches, scarab beetles, canopic jars and mummified cats. We will also be revisiting our mummified tomatoes to see how the have changed. On Thursday afternoon we will watch “The Prince of Egypt” as our end of term movie.

Today we all had crazy hair- really crazy, and raised a total of £28 as a class for Comic Relief 🙂 Go Red Noses!

1 week to go until the holidays, we cannot believe that we have only got 12 school weeks left in P4 🙂 What a fast year!!!

Mrs Newton says the picture will be on Class Dojo later today, have  a great weekend- the sun is supposed to shine.

P2/3 working with P4.

Mrs Newton’s class have been working with P2/3 on SUMDOG. They were very helpful teaching P2/3, the skills of logging onto the netbooks, the internet and finding SUMDOG. The P4s talked the children through the different areas of the Maths’ games.

Thank you P4!
