Heating up in P4a

It has been a hot week in P4a this week, but we are not complaining- we love the sunshine!

In writing we have been learning about agreement between verbs and pronouns (subjects and pronouns). We then used this knowledge, and our 3rd person pronoun knowledge, to write reports on our visitors.

In Numeracy we have been learning about area and perimeter. We know that to calculate area we multiply the length of 1 long side by the length of 1 short side, or if it is a square we just multiply the length of 2 sides. To calculate the perimeter we add up the length of all the sides. We had great fun playing a Scoot area game as well.

We have been learning more animals in French and we even wrote some senteces- Tres Bien!!!

We played quidditch again this week and Kieran introduced Beaters and Bludgers. We also had races, we had to run with the broomstick between our legs- we could not hold onto it so it was very hard to do.

We had a visit from Alasdair and Jamie with a huge tractor. It was really big and we loved getting to learn all about it. The best bit is that it can drive itself- WOW.

Finally we had a rugby session, this was really good fun and we are looking forward to our next lesson.

Weather is lovely, have a great weekend 🙂 5 weeks left in P4 🙁

Goodbye Mrs Malcolm :(

Lots happening in P4 this week. On Monday we learned about 3rd person pronouns- we will use this in our recounts next week. In numeracy we revisited time,  we learned about periods of time, converted analogue times to digital and had a time challenge as well.

In French we are learning about families and animals and we are going to learn “Le vieux Macdonald avait une ferme” next week.

In PE we are continuing to learn different athletic sports, this week it was hurdles. In Quidditch the broomsticks arrived- we enjoyed using them and hope that soon we will also have bludgers.

On Thursday we were all super excited because Joanne’s mum brought in two lambs for us to see. We were so quiet that they came right up to us. Joanne and Mrs Newton gave the lambs bottles- they were very hungry and very strong!

Today we all said goodbye to Mrs Malcolm 🙁  We have enjoyed having Mrs Malcolm as our head teacher and will miss her. We are looking forward to Mr Wells starting as none of us have had a head master before in this school.

Lots more happening next week- including a visit from a tractor- eek! Fruity Friday will also start up again next Friday. 20p for a piece of fruit- yum

Have a great weekend,

P4a 🙂

Baby Lambs in P4B!

Blog 19.5.17

Dear all

This week we had a visit from some baby lambs! They licked our hands and tried to eat grass. We got to see them feed from a bottle of milk. They were so fast they nearly pulled Mrs Newton’s arm off!

In literacy we did a spelling test. We learned about agreement and third person pronouns. We did our reading and we wrote about our special visitors!

In numeracy we practised giving change with coins and reinforced with online games on Sumdog. We revised fractions on a number line.

In Health and Wellbeing we played fish, chips and peas with Mrs Reid in PE to learn speed and listening skills. We also played quidditch with Kieran and got to go on brooms! We did relay races with Mrs McAlpine

In Learning across the curriculum we are designing farms using animals and a farm house.  In music we learned a song called Farmyard Scramble. We started doing our CHEM tests.

With Mrs Begarnie, in RME we learned about the Jewish faith.  We learned about kosher foods and what Jewish people could and could not eat together.

Have a good weekend!

Callum’s Boys Brigade Medals!

Well done to Callum Woolsey in P4B who came to show me his Boys Brigade medals today! Callum took part in a Boys Brigade sporting tournament and came ‘first’ in football and ‘second’ in handball, despite having never played handball before! What a brilliant achievement Callum! We are proud of you!

Sandwiches, seeds and sport!

This week we have been learning about 1st and 2nd person pronouns. This helped us write our recipe instructions. We learnt about different types of farms in Scotland and, in French, we were learning all about birthdays and anniversaries.

On Tuesday we had quidditch in the morning and then our last NYCOS session in the afternoon. We learnt lots in singing and will miss our sessions with Mrs Gray.

On Wednesday Mrs Newton didn’t get to school until 2.15pm- she didn’t sleep in (honest!) but went to speak to some MSP’s at the Scottish Parliament. Some of us saw her on the news but Mrs Newton didn’t see it because she had a meeting after school 🙁

We did a money scavenger hunt, this was really good fun and we found all the clues. Then we made 3D boats with Mrs Begarnie as part of our water lessons.

On Thursday we wrote instructions on how to make a sandwich- it is not as easy as you think, some of us forgot the plate! Then we had quidditch (we love quidditch) and in the afternoon  Ranger Lynne  came to talk to us about Beecraigs Farm and what animals they keep. The farm is open to visitors so if we want we can visit with our families.

Today we followed each others recipes to make sandwiches- they were yummy 🙂

We also planted flower seeds (Forget Me Nots and Wild Flowers) and some tree seeds. The trees will take a long time to grow big enough to plant outside- we may be in P7 before we can do this.

Next week we have twin lambs coming to visit us, we will have more quidditch practices- hopefully on broomsticks and Mrs Malcolm will finish on Friday, we have really liked having Mrs Malcolm as our head teacher and will miss her.

Have a lovely weekend, Mrs Newton says there is a big rugby event on this weekend in Edinburgh 🙂

Freya’s Kindness

We are so proud of Freya MacDonald in P4A who decided to sell her doll’s house to raise money for Parkinson’s disease, a condition that affects her Grandfather.  Well done Freya! What a lovely thing to do!

A short 3 day week in P4a

After a lovely long weekend we all came back to school ready to learn. First up was some reading, followed by money and then we were off outside for a spot of Quidditch practice. The Linlithgow Gazette contacted us and we sent them pictures and an article all about our Quidditch, we think it might be in this weeks paper.

In the afternoon we had our penultimate session with NYCOS- we have loved learning to sing and will miss Mrs Grey when we finish.

On Wednesday we were learning about Judaism, what it is as well as their rules and laws. We took lots of notes and Mrs Begarnie was very impressed with our work. We also learned about some of the differences between girls and boys.

In PE we were practising throwing as part of our athletics learning. The Boccia club also had their 3rd session with Mrs Reid.

Today we had a lovely assembly with Russell, all about team work. And that’s the week that was!!

Next week we are going to plant potatoes, tree seeds, herbs and flowers that attract bees. We will also be building the birdboxes we started in November (Mrs Newton has finally remembered to bring in all of Mr Newton’s screwdrivers!!!)

Home learning will also start again on Monday. Mrs Newton will send a message on Dojo about this.

Freya raised lots of money for Parkinson’s by selling her old doll house- well done Freya!

Have a great weekend, hopefully the sun will continue to shine 🙂
