Our last full week in P3 in 2016

We have had a very busy week in P3 this week! In maths we have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties – we even went on a shape hunt outside around our school to see what 3D shapes we could see around us!

In literacy we have been looking at letter writing and how to set out a letter correctly. We wrote a letter to santa asking for presents for ourselves and for others across the world who are less fortunate.

On Thursday we had lots of fun making our Christmas cards, using fabric, buttons and other bits and bobs! There was also a good sprinkling of glitter around the class too 🙂

Outdoor Learning- Maths.

We were making 3D shapes in the playground.

We had to find twigs and we used string/wool to help us to tie the sticks together to make the shapes. First, some of us had made a 2D shape and built them in to 3D shapes.

Daniel L., Calan and Dean started their shape building by tying 4 twigs together first to make a square based pyramid.

Iggety ziggety zaggety zoom another spellbinding week in P3

This week in P3 we continued with our book Room on the Broom. We have been looking at question words and question marks and thought of our own questions we would like to ask the witch. A couple of people in the class even turned into witches, wearing a witches hat and answering questions in the role of the character! We also got the opportunity to create our own sequel to the story in our writing this week, involving lots of different adventures along the way.

On Thursday we started to make stick puppets for the characters in the story to help us act out the story to some music and bring the story to life… we are all very excited to practice this next week!!

Have a magical weekend from P3 🙂

Our fun filled week in P3

This week in P3 we started our book focus of books written by Julia Donaldson. We read a bit of Room on the Broom and then we all had the opportunity to work in groups to create our own endings through drama – we really enjoyed showing these to the rest of the class!!

In literacy we continued to look at information posters through the theme of Remembrance Day. We learnt a lot about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies and shared our posters with each other about what we had learned.

In numeracy we have been looking at numbers 10 or 100 more and less than within 1000. We all got quite competitive during our game of bingo and loved challenging ourselves in our mild, spicy, hot activity!

This week we also continued our yoga… this time it was to star wars and the force was definitely with us!

Have a lovely weekend from us all in P3 🙂

P3 Class of the week!!

What a great first week back we have had in P3! This week marked the start of our two weeks of outdoor learning, with our focus being trees and our woodlands. As part of our topic we explored the area around our school for different trees and used a classification sheet to help us identify the different species of trees. Later on in the week we also looked at life cycles, focusing on the life cycle of an oak tree – many of us learnt that trees can live up to over 1000 years old!

In literacy we have been looking at adjectives and used them to help us create some interesting acrostic poems about autumn. In maths we went on a shape hunt to find different shapes around the school, and used leaves and twigs to make different shapes and patterns on the ground – although it was quite a challenge with the wind! In addition we also had another lesson off the SFA football coach, and even did some yoga to the story of Harry Potter.

Finally, we celebrated today as P3 were awarded the trophy for class of the week!

We hope you all enjoy your weekend. See you next week.

We were finding 2D shape in our environment. We found circles, squares, rectangles and a pentagon. Next, we are going to find some 3D shapes.

We went into the school grounds and found fungi under the trees, brambles, elderberries and ash cones. We were surprised to find some blossom on one of the trees.

We were testing our helicopter seeds. The card helicopter seed was better because it flew better and it fell to the ground quicker as it was heavier. Some peoples’ paper helicopter seeds flew away because they were  thinner and lighter and the wind was very strong.

Our last week of term

We have had another extremely busy week in P3. On Tuesday we explored our local area on our Linlithgow trip, we went to St Michael’s church and also learnt lots about the different habitats surrounding our local area.

On Wednesday we had another busy day, where we took part in a benchball festival with other primary schools within our cluster. We had lots of fun  playing against the different teams, and won some of the games too!

On Thursday we finished our island life topic by finishing decorating our junk model islands – some of us got quite messy but we all had lots of fun. We also had another visit from an SFA coach for our second football lesson, where we were working on our dribbling skills and the ability to stop the ball with our feet.

We have all worked really hard this term and are all really looking forward to our holidays!

Have a lovely holiday and see you all very soon.
