Welcome to P2A

A big welcome back to all pupils and parents. We have had a wonderful week in P2A getting to know each other and exploring our new classroom.

Here are a few pictures to show you what we have been up to.

We were busy making displays for our classroom. We talked about our rights and responsibilities and created our class charter.

We learnt about the 5 point scale. Miss Mudd uses this as a morning check in tool to see how we are feeling. We can move our names up and down the scale to show our feelings changing throughout the day. We talked about different strategies we can use to keep us calm and happy. If we are feeling a 5 we could take some deep breaths, have a drink, talk to a friend, take a walk, read a book or draw in our doodle books.

Miss Mudd had also set us up a Finger Gym in the classroom to strengthen our fingers and practise our fine motor skills. Our challenge this week was to use the giant tweezers and gems to solve the doubling problems.

We were also practising some of our common words from last year to see what we could remember.

We are all tired out!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Here is a PowerPoint I have made of some of our highlights of the year (I hope the link works).

What a year it has been!! Thank you for all of your support and help this year. I have had the best year with this class. They are all stars and we have had so much fun. I will miss them all dearly so I hope they will come and visit me next year!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

Take care,

Lots of love

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5……

We have started our countdown to the summer! On Monday we popped balloon number 10 and we had to reflect on our time in P1/2. We looked back at photos of our learning and talked to our partners about things we have learnt and our favourite memories. We then drew these memories on a memory wheel. We can keep these until we are older and look back on our time in P1/2.

On Tuesday balloon 9 set us a challenge to write a letter to our new teacher. We had to use all of our skills we had learnt this year to write independently to Miss Prince telling her all about us! Miss Mudd could not have been more proud of our wonderful work!

On Wednesday we made some ‘all about me’ flowers to tell Miss Prince everything she needs to know about P1/2.

Our balloon on Thursday challenged us to some team work activities. Our class novel is The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me. We looked at how well the animals worked together as a team. Miss Mudd set us some team challenges. We then had to reflect on what worked well and what we would change. We came up with a list of qualities that make a good team. We then went outside to play some parachute games and had to apply our team work skills.

We have also worked hard to finish our imaginative stories. We learnt how to write a blurb and looked at examples of good blurbs. We tried to give a little hint about the story and use a question to entice our readers. Next week we will be celebrating our stories with the other P1 classes. Mrs Tulloch popped in on Friday to hear some of them and she was blown away by the talented authors in P1/2.

This week we held our auditions for Springfield’s Got Talent. We have some very talented boys and girls in P1/2. We had some magic tricks, forward rolls, gymnastics, poetry and even lip dancing!

In IDL we continued to learn about people who help us in our local community. We had a visit from Mrs Goddard who is a Doctor. Our visit was very informative and we loved playing with all of the interesting equipment. A HUGE thank you to Mrs Goddard for giving up her time to come and speak to us.

There have been a lot of achievements in P1/2 this week. Isabel brought in her level 1 certificate for Gymnastics. Olivia also brought in her Level 1, 2 and 3 certificates and explained the skills she needed to achieve these levels. Daniel brought in his Taekwondo belt and told us how he got his blue stripe.

On Monday we also went out to watch some of the upper school take part in the Quidditch tournament. It was very exciting and they all did very well.

We wanted to say a huge well done to all of the P7s. They performed a fabulous leavers assembly and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We have loved having you as buddies this year and we hope you liked our messages. We wish you all the best for your transition to the Academy. Please come back and visit us soon!

Better Movers, Better Thinkers in P1/2

A HUGE thank you to Mr Stewart for coming and delivering some inspiring sessions with P1/2. We loved our lessons and learnt so much. Miss Mudd was so proud of how well we listened to instructions and helped each other with some of the tricky tasks.

Springfield Stars!

Primary 1/2 are incredibly proud of Sam Parker for his achievements in horse riding. At the weekend Sam won the Championship, Supreme Championship and were champions of all of the champions. Wow!! Here is Sam with his rosettes and sashes that he brought to show us. A big well done to Sam, we are so proud of your achievements.

Lucy Leamy also brought in her medals in to show us. She came third in a Gymnastics competition at the weekend. It is so nice to hear about our talented boys and girls at Springfield. A big well done to Lucy for her achievements.

Rain, rain go away, come again another day!

In IDL were learning about different types of housing and how they meet the needs of the people who live there. We then used our knowledge to design a house for Biff the dog. We had to think about Biff’s needs and use our imagination to come up with some creative ideas. Some houses had a bone room, a ballet studio because Biff loves to dance, sparkly disco lights, flowers and even a welcome mat. The houses were very colourful and were all different shapes and sizes.

For homework, Miss Mudd set us a challenge to make a model of our house. We could use whatever we wanted to make our models and she was blown away by the effort and imagination that had been put in by children and parents. A HUGE well done to everyone for some amazing models.

In Literacy we were learning about the au digraph. We created our own dinosaurs and wrote sentences with adjectives to describe them.

We worked around lots of different phonics stations to practise all of the sounds we had learnt. We showed great resilience when faced with our daily phonics problems and worked together to try and work out the answers. We have been consolidating all of the learning from this term and practising using all of our tricky digraphs. We carried on writing our stories and also designed a front cover for our book. We looked at the front covers of other books and discussed what we liked and disliked. We thought of an exciting title for our stories and made our covers bright and attractive.

In Maths some of us were learning about fractions. We learnt how to find halves and quarters of different shapes. We had great fun making up pizzas and using the challenge cards to practise our fractions. For example, we had to make a pizza that was half tomato, a quarter cheese and a quarter pepper.

Some of us were learning about division and sharing. We practised sharing out different items equally and learnt how to write the division sign. On Thursday we were all learning about capacity. We enjoyed filling different containers and using our estimating skills to guess how much they could hold.

We had a special visitor for PE this week. Mr Stewart came to do some ‘Better Movers, Better Thinkers’ activities with us. We had great fun developing our ball skills and he really challenged us. We were using both sides of our brain and it made us really think hard.

Miss Mudd put some new challenge cards in Paddington’s Challenge area. We had to try and hold difference balances. We were exploring all of the different things that our bodies can do. We realised that we are all very different and our bodies are very different. Some of us could roll our tongues and some of us could touch our noses with our tongue!

This week we also had a fantastic visit from the Dogs Trust. We learnt how to take care of a dog and looked at how the Dogs Trust help find homes for new dogs. A big thank you to Rachel for coming to speak to us.

A huge well done to Emily for winning Gold at a Judo competition. We love hearing about all of our achievements outside school. The class were very proud of her.

Have a lovely weekend.
