P1 and Apple Pie!

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World
This week we began our journey around the world to make an apple pie! This funny story involves a little girl travelling the world to get the items she needs for her pie because the “market is closed”. To Italy to harvest the wheat, to France to gather the eggs, to Sri Lanka for some cinnamon and so on, until finally picking the apples in a Vermont orchard. We looked at this book as we have been looking at Fairtrade products during Fairtrade Fortnight.
We used higher order questioning to deepen our understanding of the book. We designed a new front cover, looked at the seven continents on a globe and on a map, played a matching game and summarised the story. This book was a wonderful reminder to know and appreciate all the places our food comes from. I hope it makes you want to make an apple pie soon!

P1A Growth Mindset

growth mindset p1a

Today we have learnt lots of interesting facts about our brains as well as discovering what the different parts our brain control. We created ‘our own ‘dot’ art work inspired by the wonderful book, ‘The Dot,’ by Peter Reynolds.  They will remind us of the message in the story; to know that when things seem impossible, we just need to make a start. To know that we can help each other achieve and to know that each one of us, with practise and determination can achieve. We hope it makes you smile and want to get creative!

Numeracy Open Afternoon

big maths jan 16

On Tuesday 26th January, over 140 parents, friends and family members attended an open afternoon at Springfield Primary School. Miss Wallace (and several pupils) shared a numeracy presentation followed by classroom visits. Partners who supported this event included West Lothian’s Numeracy Development Officers and Linlithgow Academy.

The pupils were super at sharing their learning and explaining Big Maths strategies too! We are so proud of them.

Mrs Tulloch was able to share the work she has been doing with pupils for the Scottish Mathematical Challenge.

Springfield Primary School’s Christmas Church Service 2015

We are so proud of our pupils and staff as they led us into a celebration at this very special time of year. Pupils from all classes are taking part in our Church Service at St. Michael’s in Linlithgow. We have a host of talent from singing, drama and music. Pupils from P1 are taking part in the Nativity scene whilst pupils from P2 – P7 are sharing readings from ‘Twas the Night of Jesus’s Birth’.

Musical talents are shared including a whole orchestra of instruments including: brass, recorders, flutes, strings, choir, ukeleles, Music Buds and of course the choir singing. We are so proud of our pupils and staff at Springfield Primary and Bonnytoun Nursery and sincerely hope everyone enjoys this very special service.

We would like to thank everyone for their help and support making this happen.
