Primary 3/4 Blog Week Ending 15.12.17

Dear All

This week in literacy we learned the ‘air’ sound. We did dictation and learned to write neatly, listen carefully, write words with the ‘air’ sound in them and put in punctuation. We revised our plurals from last week and we know that if the plural word ends in ‘x’, ‘ch’, ‘sh’ or ‘s’ we need to add ‘es’ to the end. We also learned about possessive adjectives e.g. I put on my coat. We learned how to write diaries and we wrote a diary entry of what we do on Christmas Eve. We had show and tell and people talked about their favourite things, while the others listened and then we gave them questions and comments to show that we were listening. We learned to work together as a team to write a story, using spinners to choose the character, setting and time.

In French we have learned the names for body parts and we can sing ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes in French. We made monster pictures using body parts, numbers and colours when Mrs McAlpine said “Mon mostre a… We also learned how to ask what the weather was like and say different kinds of weather.

In numeracy we used Sumdog to practice patterns in shape and we also paired Christmas pictures on an advent calendar on the smartboard. We drew patterns on the board and others had to try to continue the pattern. We added numbers in a group using different strategies and concrete materials including rekenreks, cubes, counters, wizards on the wall and straws. Then we talked about what was the most efficient strategy.

In health and wellbeing we talked in our groups about bullying. We were given different situations and talked about the best way we could help people. In PE with Mrs Reid, we learned more Scottish dances, it was really really fun!

In learning across the curriculum we read another Scottish Hamish McHaggis book called ‘The Lost Prince’. It was about a baby deer that got lost in the woods of Balmoral Castle, where the Queen goes on holiday. In science we also learned about the body with Mrs Begarnie! We found out how the lungs work and conditions like asthma.

Hope you have a good weekend!
