Joining words, 3D shapes and Hoglets in P2A

Welcome back, I hope you all had a lovely October break.

We’ve packed lots into our short week!

In Writing we wrote about our holiday, we all had lots to write about!  We all successfully used a joining word in a sentence and some of us challenged ourselves to write 4 sentences.

In Spelling we worked on our common words. We made up actions to help us remember each one. We are getting better at speed reading our common words (remembering we don’t need to sound them out).

In Mental Maths we worked on adding 3 single digits, using our knowledge of number bonds to help us.

For example; 6 + 4 + 2

                                  10 + 2 = 12

Here are some sums to try at home:

8 + 2 + 6 =

9 + 1 + 3 =

5 + 5 + 4 =

We also learnt about 3D shapes. We can talk about the properties of 3D shapes using the language – corners, faces and edges. We loved making cuboid and cube aliens!

Our Outdoor Learning focus this week was hibernation and hedgehogs. Hedgehogs will begin hibernating very soon, we know not to disturb piles of leaves in case there is a hedgehog sleeping in there. In Art we used clay and twigs to make hoglets (baby hedgehogs). We rolled and smoothed the clay to make the body of the hoglet and we used twigs we collected to make the spikes. When the clay dried we painted them. We will show you our finished hoglets next week.

Next week we will begin our Literacy book focus – Katie Morag. If you have any of these stories at home and don’t mind us borrowing them that would be great!

Thanks for reading our blog 🙂

Love P2A and Miss Prince x
