P4/5 Week commencing 1/10/2018

In our Reading Groups we looked closely at our work and identified where we could make improvements in our comprehension skills.  We need to remember to make sure we look back in the book to look for clues if we are not sure what the answer to the question is.

In ICT we have been using SumDog to help us with our Maths.

In Maths we have been working on greater than, less than, equals and not equals with our number calculations.  We were also looking at word problems and using a strategy to solve them.

In RME we have been looking at the Ten Commandments and have also made up some of our own for the class.

We have been working on our French language skills by learning how to greet people and we also learned that the Statue of Liberty was given to the USA by France.

In Science we planted seeds.  We have planted seeds and placed them in different areas. E.g. Outside the classroom, in the dark cupboard, the fridge, window etc. to try out different growing conditions.  We have also set up two “control plants” which we will use to check against the other plants growing conditions.

In Art we have learned about the annual elephant festival that takes place in Jaipur and designed our very own elephants for our classroom display.  We also listened to the story “A pair of twins” about Lakshmi and Sundari who took part in the elephant festival.  Sundari was the very first girl to become a mahout to take part in the parade with her elephant called Lakshmi.

In PE we have been taking part in mini badminton games but we need to work on our service to make sure we get the shuttle in the correct part of the court.

This morning after our spelling test we took part in the Big Maths challenge to improve our mental maths skills.  We can see that our scores are beginning to increase.  To help us we will continue to practice our tables and number bonds at home.

In our class novel entitled “School Ship Tobermory” Ben has still to find his “sea legs” but he managed to save the ship by steering it past the rocks.

By Mr Ritchie and all the “Tiggerrific” P4/5s.
