Snow day activities for P1B

Enjoy your day at home with your family.

As school is closed today you may want to try some activities listed below.

  • our new sound this week was “ch”, you could practise making “ch” with paint, coloured pencils, chalk or pens. You could even go outdoors and write “ch” in the snow.
  • create words and sentences with the “ch” sound.
  • have a look at your new words, which were issued on Tuesday, you could play pairs or snap with these words.
  • in class we’ve been creating hats for World Book Day, you could create another hat or t-shirt at home showing another book character.
  • design and create a bookmark, showing your favourite book character, can you write the character’s name on the bookmark?
  • create a snow creature or sculpture, can you measure it, what will you use to measure it?
  • read your favourite book, you’ll be surprised how many words you can read on your own now.
  • yesterday we were creating number stories for  the number 8, you could make 8 snowballs and use these to create number stories, remember you should be able to make 9 number stories for the number 8.
  • play a board game.
  • use your research skills to look for transport pictures.
  • earlier this term we were looking at the cameras on the motorway to see what was happening to the traffic in Scotland, you can look again, I wonder if this will change throughout the day.
  • try any of the activities listed on the P1 homework grid, issued earlier this term.

P7B Snow Day Activities

Hello everyone,

With the school being closed today it is a fantastic opportunity to cosy up with a good book in preparation for World Book Day.

Below are some additional activities that can be completed at home:

  • Prepare your hat or T-shirt design for World Book Day. Rather than a full costume, we have asked for creative designs based on your favourite book or character. You could chose to make a physical item or draw your ideas.
  • Building on our algebraic and equations learning yesterday can you create some challenge questions for your classmates to solve on our return to school?
  • Access maths and numeracy learning activities via Sumdog.
  • Complete some topic research to share on the Blitz and the experiences of Evacuees. This could be presented as a report or fact file.
  • Engage with active spelling tasks with your words received on Monday. Why not take this learning outdoors and capture your work in a photograph?
  • Play a game of times table bingo with someone at home.
  • Safely host your own Winter Olympics! Try different physical activities in the snow and time yourself or measure distance travelled. Generate a report or take some photos.
  • Build a snow figure, snow animal or something else creative. Take a photograph and post it to our twitter pages.
  • Continue with all the tasks on your home learning grid, due in this Friday (2nd March).

Most importantly stay safe and warm and enjoy your day. Keep me up to date with what you get up to here or via twitter @Ms_ClarkeSPS @SimpsonPrimary

P5b: Suggested Snow Day Activities

Good morning! As we are unable to make it into school today, here are some ideas for activities to keep you busy. Pick a few, keep safe and cosy and have fun!

If you like, you can add pictures of your day to your story on Class Dojo, or tweet them @emmafarmer25, with the hashtag #SPSsnowday.

– Bundle up, go outside and have fun in the snow – if the snow abates for long enough, you could make a snowman, an igloo, or even a Viking longship!

– Take measurements of the snow throughout the day and record your measurements. Write down the time and the measurement as accurately as you can.

– Practise your 7, 8 and 9 times tables.

– Play a board game.

– Choose a window, pull up a seat and sketch a snowy scene.

– Get cosy and read a good book! (This is my favourite one!)

– Work on your World Book Day t-shirt or hat design.

– Explore some Viking myths and legends here:

https://www.storynory.com/category/myths/norse/

Choose one, listen carefully and write a newspaper article, poem, song, script or comic to retell it.

– Log on to Study Ladder for a variety of assigned activities across the curriculum.

– Log on to Sumdog to practise numeracy skills.

P3C Snow Day Activities!

Primary 3C Snow Day Activities!

Good Morning Primary 3. Happy Snow Day!

Here is a list of activities to complete today related to our current class learning.
Please tweet or share pictures of any learning to @MrsMcGregorP3C or in any way you can.

Have fun!

-Can you choose an animal who would live in a rainforest climate and find some interesting information and facts about it. You could write a paragraph to describe or make a poster to share your information.

-If you have any art materials at home you could create a picture, painting or model showing the layers of the rainforest.

-Use a paper plate to make a plate showing halves and a plate showing quarters. Use this to help you count different objects then share them into halves and quarters on your plate. Record or illustrate your answers in your homework jotter or take some pictures!

-Snowy spelling- Can you practice your new spelling words in the snow. You could make them with your fingers or even make them in footprints in your garden.

-Read some of your favourite book curled up with a nice hot drink. Can you illustrate your favourite character from the book and write a few sentences using adjectives to describe them?

Primary 3 Snow Day Activities

As school is closed today, The P3 teachers have got together and came up with a few things for you to do!

Get Creative and make a model of the different layers of the rainforest. Remember those emergent trees!

Get cosy and read a book!

Draw a picture of your favourite part from the book and tell us why you picked it. You can share these in class tomorrow for World Book Day!

How can you use the snow to show fractions? Maybe draw shapes in the snow and split them in half or into quarters? Make a pile of snow balls and give a quarter to someone else and you get the rest!

Research and write some interesting facts about an animal/creature that lives in the rainforest or the ocean. You can use the attached template, or make your own. Animal Fact-file

Share any photos you might have of you doing work AND playing with us on twitter.
