Primary 1B’s very first post

What a great few weeks we have had and we are now all settled in to our new class.

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the things we’ve been learning and will get more photographs uploaded as soon as we can.

This week we got a new reading book it was called The Library. We had a great discussion about Simpson Library and many of us had visited the library. If you visit over the long weekend please let us know.

We looked at the different kinds of books we can find in a library – fiction and and non fiction.

We have been learning all about the characters in the story and have enjoyed playing lots of games to help us learn the characters names.

Pairs                                                                      Character Snakes and Ladders                                   Snap

We have enjoyed getting homework and even have our homework bags home this weekend to practice our keywords.

As part of our writing this week we retold the story of Incy Wincy Spider.

This helped us to think about our Mindset and just like Incy when faced with a challenge we know we have to keep trying and never give up.

In Mathematics we have been learning about shapes and went on a shape walk in our playground.

In Numeracy we have been exploring ways to make 5 and having fun playing lots of dice games.

In the gym hall we have been learning about keeping ourselves safe and staying in our space bubbles

We have been to the community wing to play lots of listening games to help us learn all our new friends names.

Please complete the P1 Tea Towel form and return by Friday 20th September.

Celebrating Roald Dahl Day in P6

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day Rooms 12 and 13 have been learning all about Roald Dahl and the reasons why he is such a significant figure in the world of children’s literature.

We have been: –

  • discussing the features of his novels and comparing the characters and style with those of David Walliams
  • engaging with an interactive BBC Teach lesson
  • thinking about a time when we were brave
  • planning our own brave characters and an obstacle for them to face for future writing
  • learning to draw in the style of Quentin Blake
  • Designing and describing a new interesting character to join Matilda and her classmates in their quest to defeat the horrendous Miss Trunchbull.

A busy Roald Dahl Day all round!

Please encourage your children to further explore the imaginative world of these and many other fantastic novelists by reading for pleasure at home.

Transition Week

This week in nursery the older children have been very busy visiting their Primary 1 classrooms. They have had the opportunity to meet their teachers and spend time with their buddies. We have also been practicing for our Nursery Sports Day which is next week on Tuesday 11th June. We are still needing parent helpers to support groups and set up equipment so if you can help please add your name on the sheet in the cloakroom. Big thankyou again for everyone that came along to our Garden Sale we raised £379.25 in total. We will be purchasing some new resources with the proceeds.

NewLands Day!

In nursery this week children continued to enjoy looking after the chicks, they were sad to say goodbye on Thursday.

Children have thoroughly enjoyed selling plants at the garden sale and loved family coming members coming in.

Thanks to all parents who were able to come in, hope you enjoyed the tea and scones, as much as we did. Thanks to Miss Bambrough again for baking the scones.

Finally Newlands Day is here once again! We hope to see you there, parade starts at 12.00, meet at the old academy 11.30 onwards!
