P1 We’re going on a Bear Hunt….

Hello Primary 1,

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how proud I am of you all. It has been an pleasure to have been your Primary 1 teacher and I have loved creating memories that will last a life time with you all. Here is our very last story. I hope you enjoy it and I shall see you all when you are a bit bigger in Primary 2.

Love and best wishes from Mrs Lurinsky

Primary 1- Telling the time

Good morning Primary 1 we hope that you are all safe and well. We have loved seeing all of your hard work on Twitter. It really does make us smile. It is our last week of learning to tell the time. So far we have covered-

Days of the week , months of the year, seasons, calendars and o’clock times.

Today’s challenges are….

To create a sun dial.

Put the stick or pencil in the ground, or in a large piece of modeling clay, if your space is on a concrete or wooden surface. Observe the stick’s shadow carefully over the course of the day. Add a stone to your sundial for each hour, from sunup to sundown. Mark the exact spot where the shadow falls each hour.

To create your very own watch to tell o’clock times.

Design then create your own watch. Then use your watch to tell different o’clock times through out the day.

Time Challenge- What can yo do in 1 minute?

How many star jumps can you do?

How many knees up can you do?

How many times can you touch your toes?

How many times can you run up and down the garden?

Time is a tricky concept and will take lots and lots of practise so take it a step at a time. We cant wait to see all of your learning.

Primary 1- Tick Tock lets learn about the clock

Good Morning Primary 1 I hope that you are all doing well. I have uploaded some ideas and activities for you to try that will help you with telling the time.

Device hunt-

How many devices can you find around your house that will help you to tell the time? For example oven, microwave…

Hint and tips-

  • Draw attention to time. Mention the time at different points in the day. For example, you could say, ‘it’s 5 o’clock – time for dinner,’ or ‘it’s 7 o’clock – time for a bath.’
  • Do fun activities that include measuring time:

use a timer for baking

play a board game with a sand timer

use a stop watch to time a race or challenge

  • Make sure your child is confident with numbers and counting from 1–60 as this will make telling the time easier.
  • Start with analogue clocks rather than digital clocks. Focus on telling time to the hour and half hour.
  • Put a clock in your child’s bedroom. Ideally it should have a clear hour hand and half hour hand as this will help them to understand that the short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes.
  • Talk about what you regularly do at different times in the day. Compare and contrast weekdays and weekends, if there are differences. Use time vocabulary such as today, yesterday, now, afterwards.

Can you make your own clock and show different o’clock times? I have attached a worksheet or can you think of any other creative ways?

Primary 1- Time

Good morning everyone I hope you are all well and keeping busy. The weather is not so nice today so why not try learning a little more about Time.

Days of the week

Sing along to the days of the week song-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXMofxtDPUQ

Ask an adult to ask you what days come before or after a day for example what day comes after Sunday? What day comes before Wednesday?

Create a diary and write down or draw what you have been doing each day.

Sing along as loud as you can to-

Talk about your favourite month and explain why.

Calendars

If you can look online to find a variety of calendars. Can you spot any similarities or differences? What do the calendars tell us? For example- how many Mondays are in May? How many weeks are in June? How many days are in December?

What’s the time Mr Wolf?

In the garden or an indoor space play a game of What’s the time Mr Wolf.

Please upload your pictures to our Twitter page. We love to see how you are all getting on.

Primary 1 Maths- Money

Good Morning everyone I hope that you are all well. I would firstly like to say how proud I am of how hard you have all been working. It has been lovely to see all of your hard work on our Twitter page.

Ready, steady, save…..

How did you all get on with creating your own banks? Has anyone managed to save any of their pennies? And what are you saving up for? If you were unable to create a bank try and have a go over the next few days.

Why not set up a chores chart with your adult for example-

Making bed= 50p

Doing the dishes = 20p

Sweeping up= 10p

At the end of each week count your total of what you have managed to save.

Why not create a game that focuses on saving and spending money? Upload your creations to our Twitter page.

Exchanging coins

Set up shop in your home.  Begin to explore how different totals can be made through exchanging coins. For example 10p can be made from 2 5p coins or 1 5p coin 2 2p coins and 1p coin.

Primary 1 Maths- Money money money………

Good Morning Primary 1 I hope you are all well and keeping safe.   We love seeing all your pictures on Twitter. More importantly we love seeing all your happy faces. Today’s Maths is focusing on adding coins together and saving.

Ready, steady save…..

Can you create a bank using a variety of different materials or anything you can find around the house. Why not try to help around the house and see if your adult can give you a small amount of pocket money.

Below are some examples.

Perfect bank for Mrs Lurinsky  I would like to save up for a holiday to Florida!

One for our super heroes

Please take pictures of your creations along with a sentence about what you would like to save up for. If you can, upload them to our Twitter page. Remember not to write your child’s name if your post has photograph of them.

Adding coins together……

Caterpillar Coins

Ask your adult for a handful of coins. Place them on a piece pf paper and draw around them and create a caterpillar shape. Once you have finished add all of your coins together and write your total. Remember to write the p or £ sign.

Primary 1 Maths

Good Morning Primary 1. I hope you are all doing well and keeping safe. It has been lovely to see all your work on our Twitter page-keep it coming!

Please continue to work from our Maths Learning Grid. Before the holidays we asked you to look at direction. How did you get on with that? Learning about left and right can be a little tricky.

Money, money, money….

The sun is shining so why not ask your adult to hide a variety of different coins around the garden.

Once you find them sort them into your own criteria this could be-

Colour, value, size or order your coins from the coin which can buy you the most. To the coin which can buy you the least.

Role Play

If possible try to set up a shop be as creative as you can toy shop, supermarket, ice cream parlour, sweet shop. Price all of your items. If you have time create your own money and sell your items. You can ask your adult, sister or brother to join in. See if you can give change too. We would love to see your shop pictures on Twitter!

*Challenge*

Make a collection of different coins? If you could keep 1 coin which one would you choose? Why? Make some coin rubbings of your favourite coins.
