We were very lucky to have a parent helper, Ms Pereira, come in to teach us all about Portugal. We made flags, danced to Fado, learned some Portuguese and I know I wasn’t the only one whose tummy was rumbling when we heard about the delicious Portuguese food. A very big obrigada from me – we all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Today in P2A…

Today in Primary 2A we had a lovely surprise! One of the Primary 1 teachers from last year, Mrs MacCallum, came in to see us and ask how we were all getting on. Mrs MacCallum showed us photos of the lovely baby Finn and was surprised at how much we have grown up since Primary 1. It was a great way to start our Friday morning and we hope to see Mrs MacCallum again soon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

P4A Week beginning 29th October

It’s been Halloween this week and it was great to see so many pumpkins brought in on Monday. Well done to Maisie for winning the competition. This week:

  • In Maths we have been adding using mental methods including partitioning, hundred squares and number lines.
  • We wrote imaginative stories about a Scarecrow coming alive and we look forward to sharing these with parents at the open morning next Wednesday.
  • We learnt about the skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur.
  • In French we have been practising our numbers
  • We made a class poppy wreath in preparation for Remembrance Day.
  • We played some Halloween games during our PE lesson.
  • Some of us had great fun at the Halloween disco.
  • For reading this week we did ‘The Bubbling Cauldron’ a Halloween themed comprehension.

Primary 6B Term 1

Over this first term we have been really busy and learnt lots of new things and extended our learning in different ways across the curriculum.

In maths we now know that we can work out the distance of the circumference of a circle by multiplying the diameter by three!!!

We are pleased we can now read, write, order and round numbers into the ten millions.

We have been soooo hooked over this term with our class novel – Oranges in No Mans Land! We learnt a lot about our topic of Peace and Conflict through this and we now understand the difficulties faced by refugees around the world. Doing role play using the characters from the novel helped us to appreciate the thoughts and feelings of those faced with conflict. We also learnt more about Islam and through our novel study and looked more deeply into some of the festivals.

We are really pleased that we can make a good effort at playing ‘Mary had a Little Lamb’ using the xylophone and glockenspiel.

Before now, we didn’t know how to create graffiti art. So many of us didn’t know this was actually a type of ART!! We have reassured Miss Azam that we will only create graffiti art and not graffiti vandalism!

In Science we learnt about the life cycles of animal, plants and humans and set up an experiment to see the cycle with our own eyes!

Bikeabily has been really fun this term, we are looking forward to having all the skills necessary to be safe on the road.

Pupils of P6B 🙂

Primary 5B’s learning the week

Literacy – We have been exploring different ways to create an interesting, eye catching news headline. We looked at using puns (homophones), alliteration, rhyme and a play on words/letters. Why not have a look for some super headlines to share with the class next week.

Numeracy – We have been looking at how a number can be made and partitioned using different resources. Why not ask an adult to give you a number and try to partition it using some of the ideas we have discussed.

IDL (Topic) – this week we talked about the terms prejudice, discrimination and human rights. We have learned what each of these words mean and how they are still things that happen today. Can you think of a way we can reduce or prevent these things from happening?

Primary 5B Learning

In primary 5B this week we have been learning:

Numeracy:

Place Value – identifying the value of a digit when it is placed in a number.

Money – understanding that money has to be earned and looking at why we need money and how we can earn money.

Literacy:

Reading – continue with reading for enjoyment

Writing – learning how write a lead paragraph for a news article using the 5 question words (5W’s) (perhaps have a look at some articles at home and see if you can spot the 5W’s).

Health & Well-Being:

PE – working as part of a team and controlling the ball using our feet and our eyes to co-ordinate the ball.

Sports Day – Monday 18th June

Just a reminder that Sports Day is this Monday. Children can wear their sports clothes to school. It would be great if they could wear their House colours which are;

Bruce – Blue

Castle – Yellow

James Young – Red

Leyland – Green
