P4 Learning

Primary 4 have been developing their drama skills to perform to a class audience.  They have worked in groups to present a range of traditional stories using pace, tone, gesture and expression.  Prior to this they compared and contrasted the content, structure and layout of a drama script to a narrative text.  Comparing these enabled the pupils to develop a better understanding of direct speech and how to punctuate it correctly.

Primary 2

This week in Primary 2 we took part in a session on  listening. We got the opportunity to use some musical instruments but had to make sure we were always listening for the next instruction so we knew when to stop.

We also started to learn about probability and chance We conducted a mini experiment where we all rolled a dice 20 times and recorded how many times we rolled each number. From this we could see that rolling a dice is completely random as all our data was different and the numbers we got each time was purely down to chance. We then put our data into a bar chart so we could easily compare our results.

Primary 1

This week in Primary 1, we have been learning about about living things. We now have five caterpillars in our classroom and have been observing how they grow and change. We also noticed webbing around their cup and discovered that they produce this to help them to cling onto surfaces and protect themselves from predators.

Along with looking after our caterpillars, we have plants to care for too. We planted strawberry plants at the beginning of the week and have been ensuring that they have plenty of sunlight and water to help them to grow.

We have also been learning about the stages in the life cycle of a frog. We drew and labelled our own life cycle to demonstrate what we had learnt.

Primary 3

This week on our Victorian adventure, we looked at more inventions! We learned about spa towns like Strathpeffer and created posters advertising them.

We also learned that the Victorians were responsible for some of the inventions we take for granted today – Jelly Babies, the first bicycles (Penny Farthing) and public toilets!

Then, we worked in family teams to create ‘black and white’ photographs of our Victorian bank holiday. See what we came up with below! #successfullearners

Have a lovely holiday weekend. See you all on Tuesday!

P6 Weekly Update

This week we continued to focus on different drawing techniques and how they can be used to create still-life images, using items from our classroom.

We investigated how different amounts of pressure on the pencil, can create different shades and effects on an object. We  looked into where the light was hitting the object and by doing this we were able to show where different types of shade could be seen.

Here are some of our still-life images using natural light from our outdoor area:

P5 Weekly Update

Literacy

This week we have been doing some writing using our class laptops! We use Class Notebook on Teams as an online jotter. Class Notebook is good because you can use dictation (speak a story out loud and the computer will write it down) or immersive reader (which will read your work out loud so you can listen and check that your work makes sense). You can also add images or links to your story.

We are still reading Holes as our class novel, and now we have group reading books. These are Double Act, Follow That Spy!, The Return of the Hundred-Mile-Dog, and Fantastic Mr Fox.

Numeracy

This week we started our Money topic- some of it is a bit tricky but we’re working really hard! We have also introduced the ’55 Club’ scheme to help us with our multiplication and division skills.

Health and Wellbeing

We have been continuing with our work on internet safety and how to be responsible online using a series of videos called Band Runner. The videos are funny and teach you important lessons!

IDL

We have just started our new IDL topic: Our Planet. We came up with ideas about what we know, want to know, and how we would like to learn. We are beginning the topic with some work on endangered and extinct species.

Have a good weekend!
