Welcome to Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Primary and Nursery School Blog.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Pumpherston and Uphall Station CPS – a warm and caring learning community.  We strongly believe that all children are individuals and we work hard to ensure that they are happy and achieving well in all areas of their development.

We aim to prepare all our young people for the challenges of the future. Our learning environment aims to stimulate, challenge, support and provide opportunities to develop life skills. We have high expectations for all our children and we celebrate attainment and achievement inside and outside of school in a range of ways.

We take positive steps to promote effective partnerships between home, school and the wider community. We have an open door policy and you will, as parents and carers, always be made welcome. We hope you enjoy looking at life within our school and nursery and we would welcome your comments under any blog posting.

Primary 1 End of Term Update

Hello parents/carers,

Information regarding everything that has been covered this term is available on Seesaw. This will provide you with an insight of things you can recap or follow up on at home over the festive period.

Children who are wanting to write Christmas cards for their peers have been reminded of where their class mates names can be found.

We look forward to having you along to our Nativity performance on Thursday morning.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Walkingshaw

P5-7 Planting Event

On Friday, a group of pupils from P5-7 took part in a community planting event with Mirin and Nelly from the Edinburgh and Lothians Green Space Trust. We were invited along to help with the trust’s project to help create better habitats in our local area for great crested newts. This species of newt is protected and can be found locally.

The pupils planted plants such as meadow sweet, water mint and marsh cinquefoil around the pond edge which should serve as homes for the newts and protection from predators. The pupils also planted some trees near to the pond area. It was great fun, if a little muddy! Many of the children said they would like to return to the pond once the plants have had a chance to grow to see the difference they have made.

Primary 5 Dynamic Earth Trip

Last week, Primary 5 visited Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, where we learned all about the amazing world of oceans. The highlight of our visit was the Oceans Workshop, where the children took part in five engaging activities:

  • Creating an Ocean Food Web: Exploring how all marine life is connected.
  • Ocean Layers: Identifying animals that live in the different ocean zones.
  • Pressure Experiments: Understanding how pressure increases with depth.
  • Coral Acidification: Using chalk to see how pollution affects coral reefs.
  • ROV Expedition: Learning how robots help scientists study deep-sea animals.

We also toured Dynamic Earth, discovering more about our planet, the water cycle, and ocean ecosystems.

Have a look at our pictures to see the fun we had on this exciting learning adventure!

P6 Nursery Buddies

To prepare us for the World of Work, we have been applying and interviewing for the role of Nursery Buddy. Primary 6 were interviewed by Miss Hall and Miss MacAulay. Well done P6 for speaking so confidently and telling us about your fantastic skills and strengths.

P6 STEM: Volcanoes

To finish off our Natural Disasters project, P6 enjoyed building and erupting volcanoes. We used our research skills to plan and write news reports about a Volcanic eruption. We know what a volcano is made of and should look like. We designed and decorated our volcanoes. We used our STEM skills to measure and mix ingredients to create a chemical reaction. Look at our lava pouring down our volcanoes.
