Good afternoon P1! Thursday 30th April 2020

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you are having a nice day. I have a little art activity for you that I saw online and thought was nice.

Remember when we explored the visual elements in class? We talked a lot about the one called LINE. We experimented with different types of lines – wavy, straight, vertical, horizontal, broken, thick, narrow, etc.

This art activity is based on using straight lines, both vertical and horizontal, to create a tartan background; a bit like we did in Scottish Week.

Here is my tartan background – I used five colours. Can you spot all the patterns? Patterns are important when you create a tartan.

Next, we draw and colour the outline of any shape that reminds you of Scotland. I drew a thistle. Do you know why I chose this flower? Stick your drawing on top of your tartan background and HEY PRESTO, you have a lovely Scottish piece of artwork!

You could choose a different picture – like somebody doing some Scottish dancing, a stag, a highland cow, a squirrel, a Scottie dog, or something else that you think of.

Last night I was playing my violin for the first time in a while and I thought I would play a Scottish song for you to link in with our Scottish art. I hope you like it. It is called The Rowan Tree. You might have to plug your headphones in because the volume is not very high.

Take care everybody and have a great afternoon. We miss you all very much and love hearing from you. Remember to check out our school twitter tomorrow to see photos of all the fantastic work and play children in our school have been getting up to!

From your P1 Teachers!
