Having lots of fun teaching and learning with P2/1!

P2a, P2b and P2/1 Health and Wellbeing Challenge – Wednesday 20th May

Below is our new weekly Health & Wellbeing Challenge for you to try!

Food At Home

Here is the learning outcome –

  • I can  investigate the range of foods available.
  • I can discuss how they contribute to a healthy diet.

Watch this short this video which introduces healthy eating.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMHVEFWNLMc

Learning activities:

Before starting any of the following activities, children and grown up should wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water.

  • The child should make a list of some foods they would like to eat at home.
  • With help from a grownup, the child should devise one healthy meal that they could prepare.
  • The grownup should talk to the child about what makes a healthy meal.
  • The child can draw a picture of the meal.

You may want to encourage children to contribute to devising healthy meals over a week. They can be helped to identify what type of food is required.

If you can, take a photo of some  meals you have made over the week and share with your teacher.

P2 Teachers and Miss McDermott

P2/1 – Wednesday 20th May

Hello P2/1

Thank you for all the super robot pictures and stories that you’ve been sending.  This has been a very popular theme for Story Time  from Home this week.

Today there is a new blog page with a health and wellbeing challenge which myself and the P2 teachers hope to post every week as this is not something we have been including on our weekly home learning grids.  It is all about food and healthy eating so I do hope that over the next week you might be able to try it.

Here is the link to today’s robot story.  Unfortunately Tufty decided she would like to be in the video too and you will see her at the beginning, knocking over the camera again! Fortunately I do get to the end of the story eventually.

As it’s Wednesday I am back in the hub school today so please remember I won’t be immediately available for answering messages/queries.

Enjoy your day and remember it is important to get outside too.

P2/1 – Tuesday 19th May

Hello boys and girls

Here is the link to today’s story.  I am glad to hear that lots of you are enjoying the robot theme and that some people have even started making their own robots. This is a book that I have read before and it is one of my favourite robot stories – I do hope that you enjoy it too .

Below is a link to a “How to Draw a  Friendly Robot” video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezCNpUapl3c

You might want to turn the sound down though – I think it is a bit annoying!

I am sure that you will have your own ideas for writing and drawing robots, so please remember that these are just ideas and suggestions that the teachers put on the blog pages.

Have fun whatever activities you choose to do and if you have any questions or problems, just send me an email and I’ll get back to you.

Story Time From Home – Monday 18th May

Hello everyone and welcome back after the weekend!

Last week I created an online quiz for P2/1 to try all about Scotland.  It seemed to work really well so this week I have made one for everyone who enjoys the Story Time videos.  The quiz is all about bears which you can play online by clicking the link below.

https://create.kahoot.it/share/p1-p2-p3-bears-quiz/3bbcd367-1844-478f-9593-f62d157cac6c

You do not need to download an app or to login but you can put your name or initials in.  It is a multiple choice quiz and it is very easy to play on a mobile phone. Please let me know how you get on and what you think!

This week’s story theme is robots and here are the robots that were made by the children in my street that you will see in the video this week .  Aren’t they fantastic?

And of course here is the link to today’s story which I hope you enjoy!

P2/1 – Monday 18th May

Hello P2/1

Hope that you are all well after the weekend.

There are quite a few things for you to look at this week and I apologise to the grown ups that they can’t all be on one page so to speak. This is because the teachers are working as a team to do different parts of the planning.  I hope that you understand and bear with us on this – home learning is quite tricky for everybody as you know.

Today there is also a 3d shape page and minibeasts page for you to look at if you’ve time. Please remember these activities are for the whole week – not just for today!

Thank you to everyone who tried the Come and Visit Scotland quiz last week.  After the positive feedback I have made another one with a “bear” theme  and I have used some of the bear facts that I learned from you –  so do look out for them if you did this challenge! Here is the link.

And here is the link to today’s Story Time from Home. This week the stories are all about robots and as I mention in the video I was given some super robots by two of the children in my street who are also watching the videos with their family. A big thank you to them – I’m sure you’ll agree that they look fantastic!

If you make a robot model this week, please do send a photograph – I’d love to see it.

Have a good day

Story Time From Home – Friday 15th May

Hello everyone

Here is the link to Friday’s Story Time From Home.

https://vimeo.com/418533006

As well as a bear, it includes some pesky rabbits too.  I hope none of you are being pesky! Mind you, it is nearly the weekend so you can have some time off from home learning and hopefully do something nice with your families.

Best wishes and thank you again for watching all the videos and sending me your kind messages.

P2/1 – Thursday 14th May

Hello boys and girls

Oh dearie me! After being so glad to find out our quiz link worked it seems like yesterday the Story Time from Home link and rainbow video didn’t!  Well the annoying thing was it worked for some people and it seemed fine to me whenever I checked it.  Aren’t computers strange things?

Hopefully today will be better but if not please let me know, grown ups! This should be the Story Time link  below.

https://vimeo.com/418136334/6907595ba3

Thank you for all the messages and photographs yesterday – I had a lovely time looking at them all. I have now added the shape activities to Heinemann Active Maths for you to try.  In school, the teachers call this resource HAM because it is too long to write and say Heinemann Active Maths all the time.  When you shorten words like this it is called an acronym and we use lots of them in school.  One you will probably know is ORT for Oxford Reading Tree.  I thought I would mention HAM though because the grown ups might see it written down on learning grids and plans and get very confused!

  or ?

Have a good day and just keep doing what you can.

Story Time From Home – Thursday 14th May

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the Story Time from Home page although it seems like yesterday some of you were left rather disappointed when the links didn’t work.

I am very sorry about this.  I do check them and they both worked fine for me and they did work for some other people it seems. I am able to tell how many people watch each video and I just thought maybe you were all having the day off yesterday!

Here is the link for today’s story which is quite a short one and finger’s crossed will work.  Grown ups – please let me know if it doesn’t and I’ll see what, if anything, I can do.

Story Time From Home – Wednesday 13th May

Hello boys and girls

Today’s Story Time From Home  is all about a polar bear.

https://vimeo.com/417711947

I saw this super website link on Mrs Mills blog page and thought I would share it with you because it has lots of information and pictures  of real bears that you might like to have a look at if you’ve time.

https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/animals-and-nature/bears/

I’ve also made another video today which has nothing to do with bears but is an activity about rainbows which is another theme in today’s story.  The idea for this came from children in my class so why not watch it to find out more…

https://vimeo.com/417720523

and have a go!  It’s great fun!

P2/1 – Wednesday 13th May

Hello everyone

A big thank you to everyone who has done the “P2/1 Come and Visit Scotland”  quiz.  I am so glad that it seems to be working.  If you haven’t done this you can still give it a go until the 24th May. Here is the link again.

https://kahoot.it/challenge/09813464?challenge-id=f7e99898-d268-40ac-ab21-33079852aadd_1589148008860

And here is the link to today’s story which is all about a polar bear and  a rainbow.  It is quite a long story but it does have lovely pictures and a happy ending!

https://vimeo.com/417711947/671b658dc5

Something that has made me happy is all the lovely rainbow artwork that you have been sending me and in particular I have loved the rainbows made with water.  This has inspired my latest video which shows you how to make your own rainbow. Obviously some children know how to do this already and I would have loved it if you could have been my assistants – you know who you are!

I hope you enjoy the video and have a go at making the rainbow if you haven’t done so already – it’s great fun!
