This Week in P4

What a great week this week, here are some of the class to tell you about it:

Katy – I loved the outdoor classroom this week.

Oliver and Cassie -I liked the movie on Friday.

Cassie – I really liked the E.R.I.C. times (Everybody reading in class).

Jacob H and Cassie – I liked the outdoor learning and using the maps.

Tain – On our outdoor learning walk I had fun because we got to plan our own route back to school.

We also continued to explore the measurement of length using cm and metres,  developed our understanding of characterisation. Played with words by making calligrams and helping the P1 to draw calligrams too.

We have further developed our understanding and experience of teamwork through problem solving in maths, PE, a book day writing challenge and classroom routines.

This Week in P4

We have been sharing our home learning this week, many of the class remembered and were ready. We have been looking at our writing targets and developed our awareness of first level goals. we have had some first aid from Mrs armstrong and the children learned about the actions to take if we find someone hurt.

We enjoyed our outdoor learning with P1M this week exploring measure and looking for signs of Spring.

The children were challenging their P1 reading buddies to write key vocabulary from their books this week. The P1’s had excellent writing skills, the P4’s were impressed.

In maths we had some check ups, this caused a few problems as the children found some of the question formats difficult.  We will work on this more in class.

Finally the children have been engaged in some teamwork activities this week in a variety of subjects.

This Short Week in P4

We have not been able to take photos this week but we have had an interesting short week.  Mr Keast has continued to explore how to write a letter with children, We have tested our knowledge of fractions and are moving into identifying improper and proper fractions and mixed numbers. We had a fantastic time at the Badminton festival and all the children gave it their best, well done.  We had a treat of a visiting music teacher who introduced the children to some instrument work. And we had a relaxing Friday finishing our poster for the school library, thinking about our learning over the past week and filing some of our loose leaf work in our folders.

The children have been exploring a new side to fractions, most of the class are confident with fractions of a shape, but were challenged with finding a fraction of a two digit number.  Division is also challenging, and the children had to discover the links to their times tables. Early days as they try to transfer their knowledge to different concepts.

With our class reader we have been exploring the clues  and puzzles the author puts into a mystery story to keep you guessing till the end.

For outside classroom this week we explored how to measure the height of a tree!

This week in P4

We have been exploring our class reader called Ottoline and the Yellow Cat, but we have not got very far as the illustrations have so much in them to talk about. The children are being reading detectives looking for clues to the mystery and asking lots of questions. We had a go at some drama too, exploring what might happen next in the story.

The children are really progressing well with their knitting and some have even tried finger knitting and weaving this week. We have had  a mum volunteering to support the children’s efforts which has been fantastic. If you want to help please let the school know.

In maths this week we have begun work on equivalent fractions and will continue to revisit their knowledge of angles during our mapwork in outdoor classroom lessons.

During writing the children have been revisiting openings of sentences and developing their vocabulary.

We have also taken the first step in exploring emotions, behaviour and our thinking. The children have been talking about how our brain works and what it does.
