P2/1 Learning Reflection W/E 13th September 2019

P2/1 have had a busy week this week. P1 have been learning the i and n sounds and the tricky word of. We used shaving foam to write our sounds, taught ted how to write the letters, made an iced biscuit and an iguana. P2 have been revising the a-e and i-e sounds. We played roll and read, wrote a-e, i-e words and made words on our magnetic boards. We have begun our topic of houses and homes. We made a list of features of a house and created houses using chalk. P2 have continued to explore numbers using greater than/less than and we looked at ordinal numbers. P1 have counted, written and made 8 or 9. In PE we continued to play games. In Science with Miss Whigham, we took part in a taste experiment. We tasted sour foods such as lemons. We also tasted chocolate, jam and crisps. Have a lovely long weekend. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Murdo: “I found it hard doing our number talks on counting all/counting on.”

Olly: “I found it hard looking for the sounds in the sand.”

H: “I learned how to write the letters i and n.”

G: “We drew houses out of chalk. I enjoyed drawing my house.”

Alister: “I liked using Charlie the crocodile (more than/less than symbols). It was quite hard though.”

Lucas: “I enjoyed learning new letter and finding the letters in the sand.”

Teria: “I enjoyed learning about houses and I enjoyed learning about magic e sounds. I enjoyed science with Miss Whigham.”

Christian: “I enjoyed science with Miss Whigham. We were eating sour foods and chocolate.”

P2/1 Learning Reflection W/E 6th September 2019

P2/1 have settled in well to the school routines. This week P1 have been learning d and t. We have made d and t with playdough, taught ted how to write them, looked for the letters in the sand, created a dinosaur and a tiger. P1 also learned the tricky word the. P2 have been revising the ea and oi sounds. We searched for words in a word search, played roll and read and played an autumn woodland walk game which involved us reading ow or oi words. In writing this week we wrote about what we are looking forward to this year in school. In Numeracy and maths P2 have been busy learning about the more than and less than symbols. We know that Charlie crocodile likes to eat the big numbers and we can identify the bigger or smaller numbers in a sentence, for example 9 > 6. P1 have been busy exploring the numbers 6 and 7. We have been counting 6 or 7, ordering 6 or 7 and drawing 6 or 7. As a class we are in the middle of creating our class charter and we have been thinking about the five school values of aspiration, compassion, equality, perseverance and respect. In P.E we are enjoying playing games such as Port, Starboard and working on being spatially aware. Here are the children’s reflections on their learning this week;

Ayden: “I enjoyed assembly today and talking about compassion, respect and positive relationships.”

Ch: “I learned about the greater than, less than symbols <, >.”

Charlotte: “I enjoyed learning the letters d and t and using the playdough to make them.”

Hamish: “I enjoyed talking about houses and writing our new letters on our backs.”

C: “I enjoyed learning about the sound t.”

Lucia: “I enjoyed finding the letters in the sand.”

Hiba: “I enjoyed Mrs Mill’s assembly.”

Sam: “I found learning the greater than and less than symbols tricky but I enjoyed it.”

P1 Homework 10th June 2019

Primary 1 have our assembly this Friday 14th June at 9.15am. Our homework this week is reading and to practise our lines for assembly. Our lines for assembly have been stuck into our reading records. If anyone has butterfly or fairy wings could these please be brought into school? Thank you for your continued support.

P1b Learning Reflection for W/E 7.6.19

This week in P1b we have been learning ‘ow’ as in how and ‘ai’ as in Spain. In maths we have been programming bee bot to move forward, back, and make left and right turns. We learned about the life cycle of a chicken and enjoyed dancing to the chicken song!

Subhan – We learnt the sound ‘ow’ as in brown cow. I liked writing the ‘ow’ words in shaving foam

Poppy – I liked writing our ‘ai’ words in the shaving foam. I also liked learning directions with the Bee Bots

Charley – I liked learning how to say my name in French

James – I liked learning the colours in French

Kaelan – I liked listening to the P2 assembly about minibeasts. I liked the song about creepy crawlies

Hiba – I learnt how to say my name in French

Sushanth – I liked the P2 assembly. I liked the songs they sang

Austin – I liked learning how to work the bee bots. We had to press the right buttons to make sure the bee bot went to another person

Nicholas – I liked learning about the life cycle of a chicken. It lays the egg, then it is a baby chick and then a chicken or a cockerel when he’s older

Lewis – I enjoyed learning about the life cycle of the chicken. The hen lays an egg that will be a baby chicken

Solomia – I liked the P2 assembly because I hadn’t heard that song before. I liked singing the song.

Teria – I liked number talks. I learnt that it’s easier to make 10 first then add the other numbers on. 9 + 1 = 10 plus 5 is 15. I enjoyed P2 assembly as well.

Roshan – I liked learning the ‘ai’ sound. I know the words snail and rain. I liked making the sound in the shaving foam.

Alister – I liked learning the ‘ai’ sound. The ai sound in snail, rain and tail.

Christian – The P2 assembly was about mini beasts.

P1b highlights from W/E 31.05.19

This week our highlights are:

Austin – I liked going to Mill Farm. We looked at some animals and we went to the soft play. The best bit was going on the train!

Subhan – I liked learning about the life cycle of a frog.  First it was an egg, then there was a tadpole, then it was a froglet and then it changed to a frog.

Poppy – I liked going to Mill Farm. I liked seeing all the animals and stuff.  My favourite part was the soft play!

Kaelan – I liked going to Mill Farm.  We got to go to the soft play and there was an obstacle course, it was super fun!

Teria – I liked going to mill farm. We saw a turkey and sheep, I liked seeing the guinea pigs. We had a go on the go-karts. I enjoyed the assembly it was about having a growth mind-set.  We learned about the life cycle of a frog and the nursery came to do it with us.

Alister – I liked the assembly about being smart and when you grow your brain. You grow your brain by eating food and drinking and learning new things.

Lewis – I liked the life cycle of a chick at Mill Farm. It starts from an egg and it goes into a ducking, then it grows into an adult duck. We saw ducks at Mill Farm, I saw one jumping!

James – I liked going to Mill Farm because we went to soft play and there is a new bit that they are building. We had lunch then we looked for the pigs in trees but we couldn’t see them. I also liked the go-karts because they we really fast like a car.

Solomia- Singing was cool.  We were singing with the frog, you have to go under it!

Nicholas – we went to Mill Farm, I saw a donkey!

Sushanth – I liked to go to Mill Farm and I liked playing with Poppy in the soft play. I enjoyed my lunch. When we were in the soft play I got tired and I had an ice pack to cool down.

Roshan – I liked bones and stones at Mill Farm.  We found a big a stone. We used a shovel and a brush to brush the sand off the stones!

P1b Learning Reflection for W/E 24.5.19

In numeracy this week P1 have been exploring lighter and heavier, using the pan balance scales. They weighed different things around the class and are able to talk about how the balance scales work. Our phonics sound this week was ur as in nurse. In health and wellbeing the children are continuing to develop their tennis and athletics skills. 

Austin – I liked using the balance scales, my shoe weighs 48 cubes. The arrow was in the middle and the pans were level that’s how I know.

Roshan – I liked learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.  1st it’s an egg, 2nd it’s a caterpillar. Then it’s a pupa it builds a cocoon, 4th is was a butterfly .

Christian – I liked the assembly it was about high fives!

Hiba – I liked making the life cycles first there was an egg then a caterpillar, third it is a pupa then it is a butterfly.

Subhan – I liked playing tennis we were doing side stepping.

Alister – I liked the tennis because we had the racquets and we put the ball in the middle and you had to push it to your partner.

Solomia – I liked making the butterflies.

Lewis – I liked doing the gym outside, we were skipping it was hard to skip forward, I can do it backwards!

Kaelan – I liked the life cycle of the butterfly. Well it goes into an egg first and then it hatches into a caterpillar, it eats the egg first then it eats a leaf. Then it builds a chrysalis and then a butterfly comes out. It is a metamorphosis.

Nicholas – I learned the life cycle of a butterfly.  First it’s an egg, then it’s a caterpillar, then it is the pupa. Then it’s a butterfly.

Teria –I like making ten in number talks. With 8+6+2,  you can solve it by adding 2 and 8 to make 10 then add the 6 to make 16.

Sushanth – I got a certificate for writing a good sentence in my maths journal.

Charley – I liked making 10. 2+5+8 you can make a friend of 10 by doing 2+8 = 10 plus 5 more =15

Poppy – I like doing PE on the field. I liked the race when we were warming up cause each time I won. I like doing sports outside.

P1b Learning Reflection for W/E 17.5.19

In P1 this week we have been busy measuring using non-standard units. In number talks we have been making 10’s to simplify a number problem. We have been learning the sounds aw as in jaw and magic E for the sound ‘are’ as in care and share. We have started to learn tennis skills in PE this week our focus was agility, balance and co-ordination. The children enjoyed taking part in an Authors Live event with Emily MacKenzie who read ‘There’s Broccoli in my Ice Cream’. The children drew along with Emily to create their own Granville pictures. P1 also enjoyed a NYCOS singing workshop this week with Mrs Curle, we are very lucky as she is coming back to do 2 more singing workshops with us.

Nicholas – making tens in number talks.

Alister – I enjoyed measuring with the blocks. We measured the desk, table and chair. The desk was 37 blocks long.

Roshan –  I liked doing number talks, we were making 10.  To solve the sum instead of doing 2+5+8, I switched the 8 and 5 around to make 2+8=10 then I added on the 5 to make 15.

Austin – I liked drawing the dog from the story on authors live.

Kaelan – I liked writing the letter to Mrs Mill. You needed to write who it was for and who it is from and the date.

Subhan – I like measuring the footprints. We got different numbers because we used different things to measure with.  It’s best to measure using the same thing.

Teria – I enjoyed the froggy music. I was singing and you had to count the frog jumps, I made it jump to Lois in 4 jumps. I liked the number talks, we had to make 10 so instead of doing 6 + 7 + 4  you do 6 plus 4 first to make 10 then you add the 7 to make 17. I liked the assembly some children couldn’t go to school.

James – I liked learning the new sound ‘are’ the magic E switches the a to an A sound. Care and share have the ‘are’ sound.

Hiba – I liked playing tennis. We balanced the ball on the tennis racquet.

Charley – I liked tennis this week.

Solomia – I liked tennis.  We were balancing the ball and we passed to another child, my partner was Hiba.

Poppy – I liked doing number talks this week. Instead of doing 9+ 3+ 1 you can turn the 1 and 3 around to make 9+ 1=10 then add on the 3 to make 13.

Sushanth – I liked doing measuring, so I got medium footprint it was 10 bricks long the big one was 18 bricks long.

Christian – I liked the assembly, singing songs.

P1b Learning Reflection W/E 10.05.19

It has been a short but busy week in P1b this week! In literacy we have been learning the split digraph u-e such as huge or tune, as well as our tricky word all. In numeracy we have been revising our addition and subtraction to 20 and have been enhancing our problem solving skills by investigating powerlines, you can click on the link below to have a go. Our ELC transition also started this week. The children have shown great enthusiasm and kindness to our upcoming P1’s.

Austin – I was with Olly from nursery and we were building lego, we had a good time.

Kaelan – I liked assembly. The archery looked fun.

Charley – I liked learning the sound u-e. I know huge brute.

James – I liked playing with the nursery. I played with Holly. We played the rainbow game and sumdog!

Roshan – I liked the assembly this week. Archery and abseiling looked fun.

Alister – I enjoyed assembly, I liked the zip line part of the assembly.

Teria – I enjoyed having the nursery buddies. I liked playing with my buddy, we made hammabeads and my buddy made a circle. I also liked solving the powerlines.

Hiba – I liked writing the u-e sound. I know the word ruler.

Poppy – I liked the P6 assembly. Camp looked really fun. The abseiling looked fun but it was very high!

Sushanth – I loved the P6 assembly, I liked the climbing wall.

Lewis – I liked the new u-e sound. I know that it is a split digraph. I know the word dude!

Solomia – I  liked the assembly. My favourite activity was the raft building. I liked learning about the u-e sound too.

 

P1b

Learning Reflection for W/E 3.5.19

This week our sounds were the split digraphs i-e as in nice and o-e as in rose. The children are learning different tricky words as listed in their reading books, with our focused tricky spelling word being ‘was’. The children all enjoyed writing comic strips about Oor Wullie, these will now be stuck on our life size Oor Wullie, which will be part of the bucket trail this summer!  In numeracy we have continued to add and subtract using 10/20 frames and rekenreks , the children have been writing number stories. Everyone enjoyed the P7 assembly this morning about the importance of sport with several children reflecting on their favourite sporting activities.

Lewis – we learned tricky word ‘was’ you cannot sound it out!

Kaelan – I liked learning the split digraph i-e, the word wise has the i-e sound.

Poppy – I like dong number talks I like doing near doubles and doubles. This is a near double 3+4 is seven and that’s a near double. This is a double, 4 + 4 =8!

Christian – The P7 assembly was about sport, I like to play basketball.

Alister – I liked the P7 assembly it was about getting fit, I do football.

Subhan – The P7 assembly was all about sport, I like football.

Teria – I enjoyed making my Oor Wullie comic; he is a boy that’s very cheeky. His friends are Primrose, Bob, Wee Eck and Soapy Soutar. He calls his mum and dad, Ma and Pa. His Ma makes the best mince n tatties!

Solomia – I learned the i-e sound, it’s quite a tricky sound!

Sushanth – I love Oor Wullie, he is a boy and his friends are Wee Eck, Bob, Primrose and Soapy Soutar!

Roshan – I liked the P7 assembly it was about sports. My favourite sport is cycling.

Austin – I liked making the Oor Wullie comic. In my story they were trying to find Jeemy the mouse, Oor Wullie found him in the tin of cookies.

James – I liked learning the sound o-e it’s a different spelling from ow. Blow has ow at the end and Rose has our new sound.

Hiba – I liked the Oor Wullie story, his friends are Jeemy the mouse, Bob and Primrose. His favourite food is mince n tatties!
