This Week in P4

This week the children have been presenting their class talks and did an amazing job. The work they put in was impressive and they all delivered really well. #proudteachermoments

We have been working on maths word problems and how to read and understand the questions.  The children can usually do the math but find it more difficult to understand what they are being asked to do so we have been unpacking the vocabulary.

For literacy we have been proofreading and developing characterisation skills.

In P.E. we are continuing to explore hockey skills and teamwork activities.

P2 This Week

We have had fun learning about money this week- recognising and ordering coins as well as adding coins to make amounts up to 20p.

We found out about old toys. We especially enjoyed learning about Teddy bears.

In RME we were learning about the Easter story and we really enjoyed role playing outside to re-tell the story.

We got to visit our new library and choose a book. We really enjoyed being on the new beanbags and sofas.

P1a Learning Reflection W/E 15th March

P1 have had a busy week. We listened to the story of Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers. We looked at and discussed the types of transport we saw. We drew pictures of the different types of transport. In literacy we learned two new sounds ou and oy. We told ted, completed a worksheet, played a roll and read game and used our magnetic boards to make ou or oy words. In writing, we created our own heroes and villains. We then wrote a description about them. In numeracy, we have been adding and subtracting to make 20. We played games with our number spinners and wrote number sentences. On Wednesday we had our star of the week circle time. Our new star of the week is Isaac. On Friday we went to P5 assembly where we were learning about Fairtrade. Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

Leighton: “I enjoyed the songs during the Fairtrade assembly.”

Ch: “I really enjoyed the whole of P5’s assembly.”

Ziva: “I enjoyed playing the alphabet shopping game.”

Lois: “I am the same as Ziva. I enjoyed the alphabet shopping game.”

Isaac: “I enjoyed doing number bonds to 20.”

Euan: “I enjoyed learning the sound oy.”

Rory: “I enjoyed Primary 5’s assembly.”

Ayden: “I found it easy making ou words.”

This Week in P4

What a great week this week, here are some of the class to tell you about it:

Katy – I loved the outdoor classroom this week.

Oliver and Cassie -I liked the movie on Friday.

Cassie – I really liked the E.R.I.C. times (Everybody reading in class).

Jacob H and Cassie – I liked the outdoor learning and using the maps.

Tain – On our outdoor learning walk I had fun because we got to plan our own route back to school.

We also continued to explore the measurement of length using cm and metres,  developed our understanding of characterisation. Played with words by making calligrams and helping the P1 to draw calligrams too.

We have further developed our understanding and experience of teamwork through problem solving in maths, PE, a book day writing challenge and classroom routines.

This Week in P4

We have been sharing our home learning this week, many of the class remembered and were ready. We have been looking at our writing targets and developed our awareness of first level goals. we have had some first aid from Mrs armstrong and the children learned about the actions to take if we find someone hurt.

We enjoyed our outdoor learning with P1M this week exploring measure and looking for signs of Spring.

The children were challenging their P1 reading buddies to write key vocabulary from their books this week. The P1’s had excellent writing skills, the P4’s were impressed.

In maths we had some check ups, this caused a few problems as the children found some of the question formats difficult.  We will work on this more in class.

Finally the children have been engaged in some teamwork activities this week in a variety of subjects.

P2 This Week- 25.2.19

In gymnastics, we created sequences with travelling, jumping and rolling. We videoed them to reflect on our learning. Next week, we will try to improve them.

We have continued to learn about time, introducing digital times for o’clock and half past. In Number Talks, we shared strategies for addition.

Our phonic sound was ew this week which links to oo and u-e sound for next week. We have now learned how to write all of the letters of the alphabet as capitals. We shared some of the adventures of Flat Stanley, and will continue sharing these next week.

In art, we painted and drew Spring flowers.

Remember, if you know of any grandparents who would like to share what life was like for them growing up, we would love to hear from them.

P1a Learning Reflection W/E 1st March

Friday again! In P1 we have been continuing with number talks. We were asked how to make 20 and then we discussed all the different ways of making 20. In maths we have been continuing to learn about halves. We made pizzas on paper using halving of ingredients, made towers of certain numbers and then worked out what half of the amount was. We have started looking at giving change from 10p. We had our own shop, played two games one called coin exchange and the other one change please.  In Literacy we learned the new sounds ar and or and we learned a new tricky word which was we. We made and wrote words with these sounds in them. We played roll and read game. In writing we described Katie Morag. We learned what an adjective is and used adjectives to write a sentence about Katie Morag. With Mrs Fraser in science we were learning about flowers. We spoke about what plants give you, made flowers labelling the different parts of them and planted our own bean seeds. Someone has a daily job now of checking on the beans and watering them if they need it. In IDL we listened to another Katie Morag story and then drew a map of her island. In music we found the beat of a song and kept it. We also learned the song wind the bobbin up. Here are a few reflections:

Leighton: “I came up with a funny word, snore.”

Isaac: “I enjoyed writing the sound or. It was tricky saying or.”

Ayden: “I found it tricky when writing or. It was hard to keep my letters the same size.”

Lois: “I felt the same as Isaac. It was tricky saying the or sound.”

Ch: “I enjoyed doing number talks and thinking about ways to make 20.

Sam: “I found it easy to write the sound or.”

Euan: “I enjoyed writing the tricky words.”
