P3 – W.C. 8th November

Primary three have had a busy week of learning.

Our IDL (Inter Disciplinary Learning) about space fed through our learning this week. The class learned about why the Earth, Moon and Sun are important to us and how they work. This led us nicely into our Maths and Science work, looking at the seasons and the months of the year. The class also continued to practise their time work. We created planets using mixed media and are going to assemble a model next week.

In French, we labelled bodies with their correct French words. We also practised our head, shoulders, knees and toes song (Tête, Épaules, Genoux et Pieds) very enthusiastically!

In Art, we created pointillism poppies which are now beautifully displayed on our wall.

The class were very respectful during the minutes silence and their understanding of Rememberence Day.

I – I really enjoyed making the pointilism poppies.

C – I loved making the planets in art.

L – I really enjoyed our French this week.

L – I liked learning football skills in PE.

P3 Home Learning and Learning This Week

Good afternoon,

I have uploaded an electronic copy of this term’s home learning grid onto Seesaw and I will attach a copy on to this post as well. A paper copy will be given to the learners next Wednesday when we return from the long weekend.

P3 Term 1 Home Learning

This week’s learning:

On Monday to celebrate Roald Dahl Day we had an exciting day of Numeracy, Science and Outdoor Learning. We read an extract from ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and created potions from items collected in a jar during outdoor learning and added water, food colouring and essence.  From ‘The BFG’, we made dream jars with water, oil, glitter and an effervescent tablet to make the mixture move around the jars. Inspired by ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, we did the skittles experiment using varied types of skittles. We used the skill of prediction, observation and variables for future experiments.

Numeracy – This week we were finishing our focus on place value, we answered worded questions on addition and subtraction and we were looking at skip counting in 2’s.

In Maths, we were looking at quarter past and quarter to and the digital times for these as well.

Literacy – In handwriting this week we had a re-focus on b and d as this is often reversed. In writing we wrote a procedure piece of writing about our potions that we made in outdoor learning on Monday.

In HWB, we painted our own dream jars from ‘The BFG’ and wrote our dreams and aspirations for the future in the jars.

In IDL, we have been working on our group projects for our 20 year task this week and are starting to finish off our models.

In PE, we have been working on ball skills. Investigating and discussing the similarities and differences of various balls. Dribbling in different ways and learning various passing skills (bounce pass, over arm and under arm).

In RME, we looked at our local church and discussed what it looks like and what it might be used for.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend, and I will see P3 on Wednesday.

Welcome Primary Three!

Good afternoon and welcome family and friends of P3!

I am delighted to be teaching at Livingston Village again this year with primary three, and I am very excited for the year ahead.

Those who do not know me well, I am Mrs Love and this will be my third full year teaching at LVPS.

I hope the learners have settled into their first few days back to school, and are enjoying their time so far.

I wanted to let you know that PE days will be on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. If your child could come to school in suitable clothes for PE on these days, that would be wonderful.

Thank you,

Mrs Love

Primary 4 – w.e. 13.11.2020

Good afternoon,

What P4 have been learning this week:

In numeracy, we were learning our three times tables off by heart. We were working on our four and six times tables as well, through visual aids like arrays and groups and dividing as well as multiplying. In maths, we were learning time to five minute intervals and writing the time digitally and using analogue clocks too.

In literacy, we were using our listening and talking skills to show respect during Armistice day. We watched an assembly, were respectful of the two minutes silence and to those who died so that we could live. We watched a video which was an animation about wildlife in fields during the war to explain to the class, in a child friendly manner. In literacy, we have started our reciprocal reading books, we learned the difference between predicting and inferring when looking at a text.

In languages, we were learning French and we have started a six week block of Spanish lessons from Senor Reavell who is a languages teacher at Inveralmond High School.

In PE, we have been learning our birthday chance dance and have started incorporating what we have been learning in music and in dance in a game called ‘hip hop circle’.

In music, as we are not allowed to sing in school to follow Covid restrictions, we have been learning about the rhythm and the beat. We were learning through videos supplied by NYCOS, to create rhythms with our bodies. This week we did a ‘pease pudding’ rhythm with clapping and patting, then added on our own moves.

E – I have enjoyed painting and printing on to paper, the fish this week because it was fun.

P – I enjoyed learning the four times tables this week, because I didn’t know I would be doing the four times tables in P4.

S – I enjoyed PE this week because I liked creating my birthday chance dance.

A – I enjoyed learning more about division, because it was a challenge.

E – I liked learning about remembrance day, because we got to watch video’s about remembrance day.

A – I enjoyed learning about maths this week and doing arrays.

J – I liked placing the poppy pebble we made down at the church.

A – I enjoyed playing hip hop circle in PE.

L – I enjoyed playing ‘stop the clock’ in Maths when we were learning time.

A – We were learning our three times table off by heart.

P4 – w.c. 26.10.2020

Good afternoon,

Here are some of the amazing things P4 got up to on Halloween week!

STEM activities in small groups to build a bridge using pipe cleaners, cotton buds and pegs. It needed to stand by itself, hover, they needed to make it in 30 minutes and make it as long as possible!

Halloween spooky free writing. I was so impressed by the costumes and the spooky stories that the class created. Well done! Amazing effort!

Well done to our competition winners!
