This week in Primary 3

This week we started our new topic of Farm to Fork. This began with our class trip to Mill Farm (Almond Valley Heritage Centre) where the children were learning about the animals on the farm and what food/goods are produced by them. The met a sheep called Dolly and a chicken called Amelia Egghart. They were able to pet them too.

In numeracy this week we wrote numbers up to 1000.

The children loved writing about their week off in their weekly writing books.

In P.E. we were continuing developing our ball skills and were practising dribbling the ball around obstacles in our groups.

This is what the children enjoyed from this week…

Nathan – I enjoyed going to Mill Farm. I liked petting the sheep and the chicken.

John – I enjoyed the book The enchanted wood and was sad that it ended this week.

Elena – I enjoyed writing about the animals and the food that they give us after our trip to Mill Farm.

Andrew – I enjoyed being back with my friends in school.

Arya – I liked looking at the animals at Mill Farm.

Holly – I enjoyed our visit to Mill Farm and learning about Mill Farm.

James – I liked the Paraffin Works at Mill Farm.

Sophia – I enjoyed reading my book in the library.

Anya – I enjoyed P.E. this week and working as a team.

Maizy – I enjoyed the body coach work out today.

Caleb – I enjoyed using the basketballs to dribble on Tuesday.

Here are some photos from our trip this week and what they have learned from it.

End of Term 1!

Good afternoon families of Primary 3.

What a wonderful Term 1!

Thank you all for such a kind welcoming into the School, parents, families and Staff at Livingston Village Primary School.

Here are some snippets from this weeks learning…

In PE this week, we continued to focus on ball skills. This time we used different sized balls and how you would throw them. We practised our overarm and underarm throws in teams. Then used targets to throw them into. We then dribbled with a basketball around a obstacle and back in our teams.

We had our first library time this term this week. This is something we are hoping to keep up in the next term.

I was super impressed with Primary 3’s homework that instead of choosing one pupil to get the pupil of the week award, I gave it to the whole class! What superb model making of the faraway tree and home learning. Well done class, keep up the hard work for the next term!

As an added bonus, we managed to fill up Mrs Loves clouds of joy for the end of term! We went out for an extra 15 minutes playtime where we played ‘Whats the time Mr Wolf?’. Lets see if we can fill it up faster next term!

With the new term starts a new Topic of ‘Farm to Fork’. We have a trip organised to Almond Valley (Mill Farm). If any parent volunteers could help out, please contact the office.

I hope everyone enjoys their October break. I look forward to seeing you all in the new term. Happy holidays!

P3 Learning – W.C. 23.9.19

Good afternoon parents and pupils.

Fantastic week P3!

This week in our literacy, we watched a animated short film called ‘The present’. We worked in pairs to think of the different emotions that the boy from the film, dog and how the children felt throughout the film and discussed how emotions can change. The pupils were given the task to write a short story titled ‘The present’. They were able to write about what they thought the story should be about.

In numeracy this week, we have been building our knowledge of addition and subtraction within 100. We were also looking at the relationship between them and how to turn and addition question into a subtraction question.

In our IDL learning, we went outdoors to the trees near the field and collected leaves, fir cones, seeds and sticks. We looked at the differences in the trees and leaves and used a checklist to identify the leaves. We also did bark rubbings in our pairs. On Thursday, we used our collection to create artwork. We used the leaves and fir cones for printing using paint, wax crayon rubbings, chalk rubbings and pencil rubbings.

I asked the pupils today – What have you enjoyed learning about this week?

Pola – I enjoyed writing about ‘The present’ this week.

Arya – I enjoyed using leaves and fir cones and sticks in paint to print.

Lewis – I enjoyed art this week because I loved doing the leaf rubbings.

Nathan – I enjoyed building a new tower with Lewis in our soft start in the mornings.

Alanice – I enjoyed going outside to look at the leaves and picking them up. We looked at the seeds and different leaves.

Poppy – I liked doing the subtraction questions this week and understanding that subtraction and addition are related.

Safia – I liked looking at the different colours of leaves and understanding that the colour changes with the seasons.

Holly – I enjoyed looking at the different trees outside and doing the rubbing on the tree with paper and crayon.

Andrew – I enjoyed writing about my weekend on Monday.

Thank you to the families of P3 for coming in to our curriculum cafe event. So many of the class had someone come into school, I thought it was very successful. I really hope you all enjoyed finding out about your children’s learning so far.

I look forward to meeting you properly at the parents evenings next week.
