Good Afternoon. Another week gone already. P2/1 have worked very hard this week. In Literacy, P1 have this week learned the sounds ‘k’ and ‘ck’ and the tricky word no. We have made kangaroo and koala puppets, taught ted, sorted pictures into ‘ck’ and not ‘ck’ and rolled dice to make words. P2 have been revising the ‘ure’ and ‘ire’ sounds. We played snakes and ladders, played roll and read, wrote our words in rainbow colours and did handwriting. We also read our new reading books.
In Numeracy P1 have been exploring pattern. We looked at shape, colour and picture patterns. We made peg patterns using our pegs and boards, tower patterns using Lego bricks and completed colour patterns on scarves. P2 have been looking at numbers bonds to 10 and 20, comparing number sentences and adding how many altogether. We completed bar models, played games and used our greater than, less than and equals to symbols to complete number sentences. This week was Maths week Scotland. We have created symmetrical natural art using materials from the woods such as leaves, played eliminator where we have to get into groups of the number shouted out, we have been robots and had to direct our partners around the field using positional language such as forwards and completed the BBC Rainbow quizzes which covered a variety of topics such as adding and odd and even numbers.
In Health and Wellbeing this week we looked at two resilience tools, challenge your mindset and get active. We watched Mojo the Dojo videos about not giving up and learning from our mistakes. In assembly we spoke about the tool of get active and about taking risks when trying something new. For interdisciplinary learning we spoke about what a fact file is and we are going to work in pairs to create a fact file about an animal.
On Tuesday we had our first session of Outdoor Learning with Mrs Smith. We went on a walk to the woods and went on a bear hunt. We talked about words such as above, behind, up, down, over and through. We collected lots of sticks, pine cones and leaves.
Here are a few of the children’s reflections:
“I enjoyed the rainbow quiz on odd and even. Our answers created a pattern.”
“Same thing as Emelia.”
“I enjoyed outdoor learning with Mrs Smith. We went in the woods.”
“I enjoyed going on a bear hunt in the woods.”
“I enjoyed learning about squirrels eating the acorns in the woods.”
“I found it tricky trying to read the words on the snail race game.”
“I enjoyed going in the woods. My favourite bit was finding the acorns.”
“I found it tricky learning the ‘ire’ sound.”
“The same as Penelope and Willow. I enjoyed the woods.”
“I liked seeing the squirrels and learning about how they eat the pine cones.”
Have a lovely weekend
