P1M Learning Reflection W/E 26th January

P1 have been really busy again this week. In Literacy we learned the letters z and q and the tricky word your. We wrote about Greyfriars Bobby. In Numeracy we were looking at recognising the + and – signs and we explored doubles. We used mirrors to help us explore doubles. We also got together with P1K and learned a Scottish version of the alphabet which we then performed at the Scottish assembly. We also recited our poems to Miss Maclachlan and then Calum, Lewis and Alanice recited their poem in front of the judges. Miss Maclachlan is so proud of all the boys and girls. Here are a few of our learning highlights this week:

Jaxon: I liked learning the new letters z and q.

Zach: I enjoyed everything this week!

Pola: I enjoyed performing the Scottish alphabet and saying s is for stag.

Calum: I loved learning this week!

Lewis: I liked performing my poem to the class then the judges

Aiden: I enjoyed working with P1K to perform the Scottish alphabet at assembly

Anya: I liked making a Greyfriars Bobby using shredded paper during art.

P1M Learning Reflection W/E 19th January

P1M have had another busy week learning. We have learned two new sounds y and w in literacy. In numeracy we were continuing to practice take away. We also learned about Greyfriars Bobby and what made him special. The children loved drawing a picture of him! The children absolutely loved P.E with Mr Stewart this week as they were introduced to Gymnastics and had a shot on the large equipment. Here are some of the children’s highlights from this week:

Alanice: I enjoyed swinging on the ropes in the gym.

Aiden: I enjoyed using the equipment. I like jumping and crawling through the tunnel.

Cali: I enjoyed drawing pictures of Nessie and Greyfriars Bobby.

Calum: I enjoyed swinging, climbing and jumping in the gym.

Safia: I enjoyed word building words with our new sounds y and w.

Mathew: I enjoyed playing games that helped me learn how to take away.

Pola: I liked climbing on the frame in the gym hall.

Child Led Learning

Great time of learning and problem solving last week in P4.  The children were celebrating the arrival of snow, and set the challenge to plan and build an igloo.  This involved planning, discussion and a little bit of research and they were ready to begin building.  After their first attempt they reflected on their activity and were able to recognise the skill learning and development they had been experiencing.  The second attempt was better than the first and their enthusiasm didn’t fade throughout, they were only thwarted by lack of snow!

Futsal

This week Primary 2 pupils started an 8 week block of Futsal.  The children will be working with a coach from the West Lothian Youth Foundation for one session each week to develop their ball skills, in particular ball control.  The main difference between Futsal and football is that the ball is heavier and should never leave the ground.  Futsal is also only played indoors.  The children all engaged well during the first lesson and we look forward to seeing the children develop their skills over the next few months.  Here are some photos of the children’s first session.
