Coming Soon!! The Really BIG READ ALOUD!

Calling all parents and carers!

We need your help!

As part of our Reading Schools Silver Award Accreditation we are hoping to raise the profile of reading with families.

Lots of research has shown that continued reading aloud to children even after they can read on their own, improves reading and listening skills and academic performance. It is relaxing and wonderful for bonding.

We would appreciate it if you could participate in Our Really BIG READ ALOUD! Which will take place from Tuesday 24th May to Thursday 2nd June.

We are hoping that over the next 2 weeks families could  find time to fit in 5 or 10 minutes of reading aloud together …at least 3 times each week if possible.

If your child can read independently you can share the reading together. It doesn’t need to be a book. It could be a comic, newspaper, magazine. It could be a recipe if you are baking or cooking together.. or the instructions for a game or model. And we know  how much everyone likes a story being read to them.. even our senior pupils.

It would great if you could take a photo of your family reading time.  You may see classes will have a post on their Seesaw or Teams page about reading for enjoyment at home.

Thank you for your support.

Happy Reading Everyone!

P3 Outdoor Learning

Today we went out to the Quad to practice our times tables.  We worked in pairs on our trickiest table and had to check each others work.

Then we thought about the symmetry in butterflies and draw some and took pictures to show our work.

Numicon Numeracy in The Hive

Mrs Grieve has been on a course all about Numicon which is a fantastic Maths resource.  The children really benefitted from this and we all explored the Numicons.  We looked at number bonds to 10, as well as ways that they could help us learn some of our times tables.  Then we decided to carry on our learning with the Numicon using paints!

P5\4 working hard!

Who says you can’t get lots done when it is a short week? Primary 5/4 say you can 🙂

We have been busy with the following:-

– Continuing to build on our knowledge of Explanation texts.

– Continuing to explore Measurement where we have been measuring both in and outside of the classroom (looking at cm, mm and metres so far!)

– We have started learning about our new learning context (Oceans and Climate Change).

– We have been using our mapping skills to identify the location of the continents and the oceans.

– In Science, we  started looking at The Water Cycle which we found really interesting.

– Finally, one of the pupils became our teacher and taught us some Spanish numbers (what a treat with her own PowerPoint too)

Phew – it sure has been busy but lots of fun and enjoyable learning.

Have a lovely Thursday off, Miss Baldacci.

P5/4 are hard at work!

Please have a look at the pictures to see what we have been up to this week 🙂

We have started learning about a new type of writing – an explanation text. We have been learning about what features must be included to make this writing successful. We have also started looking at Measure for Maths. We have started by looking at all the different ways we can measure something and have started making conversions between measurements.

For P.E, we have been learning the importance of teamwork through rounders – we have been enjoying it!

I hope all the families from primary 5/4 have a relaxing and safe long weekend,

Miss Baldacci.
