Primary 1

This week has been Maths Week Scotland.  Primary 1 did lots of different maths activities inside and outside!  We collected 10 items on a paper plate and when we brought them into the classroom, we sorted them into different groups and within the groups we sorted in size order.

P1a used items they collected in the playground to make different shapes and looked for shapes in the playground.

We all took part in a number hunt, finding different numbers of items and showing this on a 10 frame.

In Literacy we have completed the first set of phonics; s, a, t, i, p & n, and are now learning all about c/k.

It was great to see so many parents at consultations and we hoped you enjoyed looking at all the learning that has taken place since P1 started.

Primary 1

This week in literacy Primary 1 have been learning two new sounds; e and h.  We have been practising sounding out and blending to read small words too.

In numeracy we have been learning all about number 10.  What it looks like in tally marks, in a 10 frame and finding it on a number track.

We have also been learning about how important electricity is.  We drew pictures about how we use electricity everyday and have been learning how to stay safe around electricity.

We met with our buddies in their classroom today and had great fun together making models with playdough.

Primary 1

It’s been another busy week of learning in Primary 1.

Well done to the children in P1b for sharing their Scots story at the assembly last week.  Everyone worked hard to learn their words and they shared the story beautifully!  Congratulations also to all those who learned their Scots poem.

We have all been learning about time.  We started with the year, then seasons, months, days and now the hours.  We have been making clocks and using them to tell o’clock times.

We continue to learn and practise sounds and are beginning to  write sentences, remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

A gentle reminder to please return reading books on a Thursday and to keep toys at home, we don’t want any getting lost.

Have a super holiday weekend, we’ll hear the children’s news on Wednesday.
