Have a look at the task some of us completed using Pixton for West Calder High. We had to write our own mini conversation in French.
We had a Spooktacular Friday dooking for apples and creating our very own spider Oreos. Our favourite part was eating them!
This week we linked our learning to Halloween.
We wrote spooky stories, and did some Halloween counting, adding, place value and code breaking.
On Wednesday some of The Hive children went on a walk to Almondell country park. We were looking for signs of Autumn.
“The leaves are falling off the trees” said Aria.
“The leaves are all yellow and red” said Eoin.
We had a great time!
Spooky happenings in P7! Happy Halloween everyone
We welcomed Michelle Sutherland from West Lothian Drug and Alcohol Service on Wednesday. Michelle spoke to us about identifying the different kinds of risks associated with the use and misuse of a range of substances.We discussed the impact that the misuse of substances can have on individuals, their families and friends. Moving forward East Calder has been chosen as a pilot school to work alongside WLDAS to create a HWB action plan which will then be used acoss West Lothian. Watch this space!

We talked counting strategies in P7A today; looking at step counting, grouping and accuracy. We estimated our grains of rice and some of us were pretty accurate, some of us changed our estimation half way through based on how we chose to group and visual representation. We used our skills in addition and multiplication and didn’t even make too much of a mess! 
We have been so enthusiastic about our spooky writing this week. We created a plan and designed our own characters for our story. We have been really focused on these stories throughout the week – trying to include some awesome alliteration along the way! Some of us have chosen to write in our jotters and some of us are typing them up. We have been sharing the finished ones in class and have been using a torch with the lights out to create a spooky setting. We come out and read in the author’s chair since we are authors of our own stories.
Since it is Black History Month, we have taken control over our learning and decided who we would like to research in more depth. We also decided how we would like to display our learning so we could then become teachers and teach the class more about our chosen individual. Our research ranged from looking at Rosa Parks to Leigh-Anne Pinnock from LittleMix.
Miss Baldacci – I just wanted to add a little bit to say how proud I am of all of the learners in primary 6b. We have had lots of fun, whilst working hard and I am very impressed with the enthusiasm they have shown towards all tasks. Keep up the fantastic work everyone 🙂
We have had lots of fun this week in Primary 6b, reminding ourselves of how to multiply and have been focusing on a range of different strategies to support us with our work. Some children learned to multiply with two digits e.g. 345×26 and absolutely loved the challenge. Take a look at us hard at work 🙂
