This week in P4!

What a wonderful week of learning in P4 again this week! Well done everyone, it has been great to see examples of your learning. We have focused on spelling, writing descriptions and asking questions this week in literacy. We have continued to work on coordinates and grid references this week in Numeracy and looked at relationships in Health and Wellbeing. We have continued to learn about our community but we have also looked at different communities in Scotland and compared and contrasted these. We then designed our own communities.

Here are just some of our examples:

New community

I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone back in school next week. You have all worked so incredibly hard.

This week in P4

What a fabulous week again P4! You have all worked so hard with your learning either in school or at home. We have looked at writing a discussion text and thinking about our arguments for and against a topic question; measuring in maths including measuring length, capacity and mass as well as practising our times tables and looking at our responsibilities in our health activities. We worked on a project all about Boudicca this week to learn more about her.

Here are some examples of our work:

Fairtrade Fortnight P7/6 and P7

We have linked all our Literacy tasks this week to celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight. We consolidated any previous learning we had surrounding Fairtrade by looking at a reading comprehension on Ethical Trading. This also allowed us to embed our knowledge of different question types, something we had looked at previously. We then completed a research task where the classes had to choose how they would display their findings. We were so impressed receiving News Reports, Audio Clips, PowerPoints, Leaflets and Posters!

On Wednesday we watched a clip called Tanya’s Journey which followed  a girl from the UK as she travelled to visit Fairtrade Farmers abroad. We used this opportunity to introduce the idea of a recount and the features we would expect the class to use. This task involved a range of outcomes ranging from listening skills, note taking, summarising and creating a new text. Using a map of the world the children also looked how Fairtrade stretches across the globe and what factors relating to the landscape influence which products grow where. Finally, on Friday we are going to have a debate! We gave the classes some statements on Fairtrade and asked them, using their previous learning on expositions to decide which side of the argument they would support or oppose. We are looking forward to a heated debate!!

Alongside all our Fairtrade work we have also been looking at multiples and prime numbers in Maths and continued with our tasks set by Mrs Martin in Art and Mr Millar in P.E, P7 you must be exhausted! Thank you again for all your hard work this week.

P2B Learning – 8th February

Good afternoon P2B, parents and carers,

We have had another fun filled week of activities. Although we had lots of school work to complete we managed to fit in plenty of time to play outside in the snow.

This week we have been counting down to the February break however that didn’t mean our hard work  stopped. Below is some of our hard work from this week.

Literacy: We have been learning how to read and spell magic e with an ‘o’ words.

Literacy: We have been learning how to write an imaginative story.

This week we wrote the ending and reflection of our story. Our writing is amazing and we hope you think so too!

Numeracy: We have been learning how to form arrays.

Numeracy: We have been learning how to make equal groups of 4.

From the additional activities grid:

Modern Languages (Spanish): We have been learning how to say your name and age in Spanish.

Art and Design: We have been learning how to draw real life creatures.

Well done on another week of amazing work P2B! You are surprising me more and more each week. Have a great holiday and keep safe.

Kind Regards,

Miss Walkingshaw

In our health activities, we focused on family and friendship and in our topic of The Celts, we looked at a range of research questions.  These included finding out about the religion they followed, looking at the types of warriors they had and then drawing and designing Celtic shields.

You have all shown such great resilience during the remote learning period and I want you to know how proud I am of you all.

Here are some pictures of our learning from both in school and home:

Numeracy: We have been learning how to make equal groups.

Literacy: We have been learning all about the magic e sound.

Well done for all of your hard work and efforts! Keep it up!

Remote and Class Learning P7/6 and P7

Another busy week both in the classroom and at home. Linking to our Scottish Tourism context both classes have been using their research skills to learn about Scotland.  They have been looking at its culture, landmarks and Geography. Using their knowledge of different genres they created a poster demonstrating how Loch Lomond was formed. We were impressed with the variety of media used to display their findings.

In Literacy we have made curricular links with our RME context of Carnival. We looked at using Higher Order Thinking skills to create 6 different question types from a piece of text on Festivals from around the world. We also looked at how to create an effective summary, identifying what the key ideas of a text are. Using these skills, the classes then went on to complete a reading comprehension effectively extracting the main points of the text.

In Maths we continued with our concept of area looking at both the area of compound shapes and of right angled triangles. Well done to all of those of you who went on to attempt the challenge activities; very impressive!

Keep up the hard work everybody, you are doing a great job!
