Sharing the Learning in P7/6

We had a wonderful time sharing our learning with our parents, carers,  grandparents and family. We worked hard to set out different stations with different tasks, to showcase what we have been learning. The pupils created different activities which were enjoyed by everyone who came.

Everyone was full engaged in what they were doing and the class did an excellent job of explaining and facilitating the stations.

We are so grateful that so many people attended and left us lovely feedback to reflect on. The pupils had a lovely afternoon showing all the work and learning they are proud of.

P7/6 Sky Academy

P7/6 had the opportunity to go to Sky Academy and create our own news story all about our society. We decided to discuss how litter is impacting our society as this links well to our Ethical Living topic this term.

We had to work to Sky Academy’s 3 skills; collaboration, communication and creativity. We enjoyed using those skills and are very proud of our final video!

Numeracy in P7/6

We have recently started looking at length and measure as our numeracy topic. We started exploring measuring using non standard units such as whiteboard pens, paperclips and glue to measure objects around the classroom.

We discussed our estimation skills and how to measure accurately. Our estimations gradually became more and more accurate!

We decided to use our wingspan to estimate and measure things around and outside our school!

TV Star in P7/6!

Our very own Erynn in P7/6 was lucky enough to audition for and get a part in the CBBC Live Saturday Mash up!

Her and her mum went on the show and had to sing songs and finish the lyrics or get slimed! Erynn won the show and even got a prize!

We are very proud of you Erynn, congratulations!

P7/6 Class Trip

P7/6 went on a class trip to East Calder cemetery with our war veteran helper Alan Hamilton. We found the WW1 graves that related to our IDL context and discussed the other war graves from WW2. we discussed the way the cemetery was set up to catch the sunrise and sunset and why that was important.

We took time to be reflective and respectful to those who laid won their lives for us. We laid poppies by the graves for remembrance day.

Book Week P7/6

We celebrated book week by making book covers for our competition, enjoyed our DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) and were lucky enough to get a visit to our local East Calder library. We enjoyed being able to use our library space and learn how to find the books that interest us!

We would like to thank our secret readers for coming in to read to us!

Science – P7/6

In science we have been learning about mixtures and chemical reactions. We made our own lava lamps by mixing oil and coloured water and added an effervescent tablet to the bottle. This created a chemical reaction when the tablet mixed with the water and started to bubble.

P7/6 STEM Challenge

P7/6 did a spooky STEM challenge linked to our learning of fractions, they all followed the instructions but had very different outcomes! We enjoyed celebrating the different interpretations people had, as there was no “correct” answer to the task.

Fire Safety P7,P7/6 & P6

The P6 and P7 pupils were very lucky to get a visit form the Livingston Fire Department. We discussed safety surrounding bonfire night and looked at all the different equipment in the Fire Truck and even got a shot of the hose! We are very grateful to the fire department for taking time out of their day to teach us.

Experiment – Science and HWB

Primary 7 have focussed on understanding the different ways unkind behaviour can be presented.

The mains things we discussed were:

  • How unkind words and actions impact people
  • How to help someone who is experiencing bullying or unkind behaviour
  • That unkind words and actions are not always direct to the person
  • How to notice if your behaviour is unkind and how to make up for your mistakes and make amends

We watched this award winning video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJsGGsPNakw

We decided to do an experiment on how unkind words and actions can harm any living thing. Instead of saying unkind things to plant 2, we put hand sanitiser in the water.

We ensured we had all the correct details in order to carry out a valid experiment, this included:

  • Diagrams
  • Controls
  • Variables
  • Predictions
  • Results

The results were similar to our predictions, that plant 2 would die.

We decided to see if we could reverse the negative actions by putting Plant 2 in with Plant 1 so it had plenty of water and food.

See below for our experiment notes.

This experiment helped us visualise what unkind words and actions can do to a living thing. We discussed the impact this has on others and how to help someone you think is struggling.
