Primary 3

Although it has been a short week we have still learned lots. We looked at a picture and had to predict what we thought was happening. Then we wrote sentences about it.

We continued to work with money and started giving each other different amounts. Some people could work with coins to 10 pence while others could give amounts up to £10. We will keep challenging ourselves with our learning.

Last week was International Dot Day. We read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We were then given a black dot sticker to put anywhere on our piece of paper. Then we had to use our imagination to create a picture using the dot. We came up with lots of different ideas. Come look at our Art Board to see some of our creations.

Primary 4A Learning

Primary 4 have been working with NYCOS on Wednesday afternoons to develop their music and singing skills. This week we were learning about rhythm and pulse.

In maths we have been learning about money and using coins. Learners have been converting pounds to pence and deciding which combination of coins would be the most efficient to pay for items.

Team 2 cleaned out Salt this week. Making sure to save some of her bedding to make it smell familiar. We hid some treats and chews around her gerbilarium to keep her busy and happy. We have been writing descriptions of her in class this week.

P3 Skills

We have been working hard to focus on our work. We often work in random partnerships so communication is important as is working as a team. We take part part in a Friday Challenge most weeks and have to use our creativity and problem solving skills. We also use lots of different skills when we play. In these pictures you can see use problem solving, focusing, creating, communicating and working as part of a team.

Learning in Primary 4A

This week we have been learning about descriptive language and planning to write our own descriptions. We started by writing descriptive vocabulary to describe our class pet. We then organised descriptive words into groups. In teams we made a description bubble for our class writing wall. We used words to describe the colour, size, number, texture and shape of a person or thing. We tried to be as creative as we could using words, pictures, photographs or play dough to present our ideas.
Both Primary 4 classes had their first session with NYCOS on Wednesday. We were learning about pitch, temp and pulse when singing.

We have been thinking about the well-being indicator’s in class. We worked in pairs to make models that represent what each indicator means to us.

Primary 4A Number Talks

Primary 4 have been working on identifying patterns in our choral counting this week. We counted in 2s and 3s and identified interesting patterns as a class. We also worked on finding different calculations to create our target number in our ‘broken calculator’ challenge. Learners tried to find the most efficient ways to create a number with a selected range of digits and symbols. We shared some creative and interesting strategies and overcame  some challenges.

Free Writing Friday

Primary 4A were busy writing in class today during ‘Free Writing Friday’. Every week learners use this time to create a text of their choice for enjoyment. Salt also enjoys this time when our learners are focussed and she is always very active and inquisitive. She enjoyed watching the children writing and the children found working with her relaxing and fun.

P3 Learning

This week we have been learning to count, trying to use the most efficient strategy.  First we had to estimate the amount of items in the bag and then had to count them. Most of us started counting in ones but Harrison decided it would be quicker to count in two’s. Once he explained his strategy to the class, other groups started counting in different amounts. Maisie, Reuben and Harry counted in 5’s and Mary’s group counted in 10’s. This became much quicker so the class decided it was more efficient to count in bigger numbers.

We also started writing a description. On Thursday we worked on our plan and then today used it to help us write a description of a Sea Turtle (Mrs Spence’s favourite animal). We used our learning about nouns and adjectives when we wrote our sentences.  We discussed our descriptions and spoke about any corrections needed and where we could make our sentences better.

This week in P2

We have been working hard on our new topic of ‘Animals around the World’ and learning about Pets this week. We looked at what different pets need to have to be healthy and safe. We also looked at creating out own ‘What am I?’ clues for different pets.

We have continued writing descriptions and looking at Peep, my pet bird as a stimulus. In maths we have been looking at 2D shape and in Numeracy we have focused on reading and writing number words to 20 and beyond.

It has been a very busy week!

Primary 2/1

P2/1 have done a great job of settling into the new school year.

We have had great fun exploring our new classroom and getting to know our new classmates.

In maths, we have been sorting. We listened to the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’. Handa had lots of different fruits, so we wondered how we could sort them out. P2 were problem solving together to sort our Lego.
‘We could sort them by colour’, ‘we could sort them by shape’. After that the P2s talked about how we could represent the groups.

We’ve also been learning about our school rules Ready, Respect and Safe. And our school LEARN values.

We were very creative designing our rainbow fish for our class charter. We think it looks great!

Living our Pedagogical Principles in P7 & P6

Have a look at our collaborative display across Primary 7 and 6. We are showcasing how we use and live our Pedagogical Principles in the upper school at ECPS.

We are so proud of the pupils and we always enjoy witnessing their rich discussions. Play in the upper school has become an important part of our pedagogy, it has definitely deepened understanding and the best part is we have so much fun!
