Primary 4A Class Pet

Primary 4A are learning all about gerbils. In class we have been researching gerbils and how to care for them. We have been gathering information from a range of texts, including leaflets and websites and using our notes to create a PowerPoint.

On Monday we cleaned out our class pet for the first time. Team 1 emptied the cage, keeping some bedding aside to smell familiar when she returned to her cage. We then cleaned the cage carefully before making her a new bed and setting up her gerbilarium. We then shared photos with the rest of the class to teach them how to clean out her cage.

Life Skills in The Hive

On Friday we decided to have a Friday treat.  The children decided that they wanted to ice and decorate biscuits.  Only problem was, we had no icing or biscuits in The Hive!! So, we decided to take a trip to Tesco to get what we needed.

Great life skills , great fun, and delicious!

P3/2 Literacy Bump It Up Wall

Article 29: We have the right to develop our talents and abilities.

are going to start using the PM approach to support us in Writing, however, we have started to think about how we can improve and “bump up” our writing using our “Literacy Bump It Up Wall.” Miss Marra showed a picture on the smart board and we had to write sentences about what we could see. It was a very exciting picture, and Mrs Robertson came to our class too. We had to write independently so Miss Marra and Mrs Robertson could see what we can write by ourselves. We spent two writing sessions working on the same piece, and we tried our very best, using a Growth Mind Set.

Miss Marra photocopied three random pieces of writing and we used a massive magnifying glass to look for what we liked about each piece of writing. We looked at our Learning Intention and Success Criteria and spoke about what we think we did well. We also identified next steps in our learning so we know how we can improve our writing. Miss Marra and Mrs Robertson are going to display this on our Bump It Up Wall in class.

We are so excited to be the first class in the school to do this.

Primary 1

What a great start everyone has made to Primary 1.  We’ve all been learning our school routines and making new friends.

We have started learning our phonics and this week have been practising ‘s’ and ‘a’.  We continue to work with numbers; sequencing, ordering, writing and counting.

We have been learning about the 4 listening skills; looking at the person who is talking, listening to all the words, sitting still and being quiet.  We try to  use this at assembly and love learning new songs.

This week in P2

This week we have continued to take part in our literacy and  numeracy  activities. We have started looking at 2D shapes this week and thinking about the properties of these. We continue to look at our numeracy learning through numbers before, after and in-between up to 100. We continue to use play throughout our lessons to support our learning.  We have begun to look at our new topic of ‘Animals around the World’ this week and we started by creating some Cubist art.

Primary 4A Numeracy

This week in Primary 4A we have been exploring numeracy tools in class. We have been looking at using tools to help count, solve calculations and order numbers.

We have been exploring Cuisenaire rods, Numicon and number lines. We have been completing daily number talks and building our bank of strategies to find the most efficient way to solve a problem.  We have also been using Sumdog to practice our numeracy skills.
