P2/1

P2/1 have had a great time during Maths Week. We have been learning about 2d shapes. We made them inside with lollipop sticks,  and even got to draw the shapes on the table! Some of us drew shape pictures.
We have loved exploring 2d shapes in the tuff tray and have made some beautiful pictures with them.

We also made shapes outside and had a great time working together to find, count and record numbers with our partners.

Article 28: We have the right to learn.

Primary 1

This week has been Maths Week Scotland.  Primary 1 did lots of different maths activities inside and outside!  We collected 10 items on a paper plate and when we brought them into the classroom, we sorted them into different groups and within the groups we sorted in size order.

P1a used items they collected in the playground to make different shapes and looked for shapes in the playground.

We all took part in a number hunt, finding different numbers of items and showing this on a 10 frame.

In Literacy we have completed the first set of phonics; s, a, t, i, p & n, and are now learning all about c/k.

It was great to see so many parents at consultations and we hoped you enjoyed looking at all the learning that has taken place since P1 started.

Primary 3 Learning

In Money this we took part in different activities to help us improve our knowledge of coins and how to pay. It has been difficult as nowadays we use less and less actual coins and notes to pay for shopping. Most people pay with cards now but it is still important we learn about money as it is life skills.

The title of our description this week was A Bus. We learned lots of information about buses, used key words on our planning sheet and then wrote our description. This week was our first time in P3 using a self assessment sheet. On it we had to colour to show how we felt we had done on each point. On the whole we did really well, just a few people needing to remember their word logs or finger spaces. Next week we get to choose our own title and what we are going to write a description about.

In art we used our imagination and creativity to cover up a mistake. We were all given pieces of paper that had accidentally been splashed with black paint. Everybody’s was different. We had to think about how best to cover them up. We came up with lots of ideas from a mermaid’s tail to an eyebrow!

This week in P2 (Maths Week Scotland)

This week has been especially busy with it being Maths Week Scotland. We did some extra numeracy and maths activities to support this. We focused on shape and  did a shape hunt with a partner.  We  looked  at  tessellation using shapes and created our  own patterns.  We thought about shapes  through  our  number  talks  in class and  came  up with great ideas.  We are still working on descriptions in writing and working on our sounds to help our reading.  We are loving our topic of ‘Animals around the world’  where we are looking at habitats.

Autumn in The Hive

In The Hive we have been learning all about the season Autumn.  We went into the playground looking for Autumn leaves, sticks and berries.  We then brought them back into The Hive and made lovely Autumn pictures to display in our classroom.
