Transition Pack

Transition Pack

Dear Parents/Carers,

For those that haven’t met me yet, I am the new Principal Teacher at East Calder Primary. I hope you and your families are all coping well during these difficult times? I have created an electronic transition pack which provides support for your child at a time which in normal circumstances can be daunting enough. This year, in particular, we want to ensure that both you and your child feel supported during these difficult times.

The transition pack has a range of optional activities enclosed which you can complete with your child – the idea being that they can be discussed at a later date with your child’s new teacher. This will be beneficial as it allows for them to start thinking/talking through any concerns they have which we can support them with, as well as help them to start talking about moving to a new class.

The pack contains the following:-

  • Countdown Calendar (digital or printed version).
  • Rainbow Activity – to share what they are looking forward to as well as any worries.
  • Social Story – Returning to School
  • All About Me Activity
  • COVID resources – to explain why things will be different in school/explanations of each phase.
  • Health and Wellbeing resources – a range of activities to support your child’s wellbeing including breathing and yoga exercises.

Mrs Livingstone, the Support for Learning Teacher has very kindly recorded a version of her reading the Social Story to the children as well as created a digital online countdown calendar.  I have attached this.

I am very much looking forward to working with you all along with the rest of the management team and the Support for Learning Teacher. Working in partnership will allow us to ensure we are getting it right for you and your child.

Before the holidays begin, myself and the SFL teacher will be sending an electronic Social Story for your child to access over the holidays. This will allow all of the children to see pictures of their new teacher, class and people who can help them around the school.

In the meantime, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office. I hope you and your family have a safe few months and I look forward to meeting you.

Take care,

Miss Alison Baldacci (Principal Teacher)

Can You Escape From The International Space Station?

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be blasted into space? Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the Space X rocket heading to the International Space Station 2 weeks ago? Did you watch the launch live? It was very exciting!

Now imagine you are an astronaut on board the ISS. Your task is to make it to the on-board escape pod, but first you need the code to enter. Can you solve the 14 puzzles to crack the code?

Click this link to open the web-page with the puzzles. Scroll down and you will find 14 questions. Answer them all to complete your code for the escape pod.

https://eo-cdt.org/escape-room/

Let me know if you manage to escape! Send an email to school or tag me on Teams!

Good luck astronauts!
