Primary 3 – Monday 25th May

Hello everyone! Welcome to another week of learning. Remember you can now pick up your new pack from school if you haven’t done so already! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Literacy:

Reading – Listen to the stories:

https://www.storylineonline.net/books/clark-the-shark/

https://www.storylineonline.net/books/library-lion/

-Write down 2 things you liked about each story and 1 thing you might change and why.

-Create a bookmark with animal facts on it.

-Remember you can access books like the Oxford Reading Tree ones from: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

If you click the Pink icon at the top right that says ‘My Class Login’ and enter Primary 3 Deans as the username and Mrs Hillan as the password then you can access these if you haven’t set up your own account.

Spelling – You have a list of spelling words included in your pack – remember to practise these regularly and use the spelling task cards to help! You can find the cards here if you have misplaced yours – http://www.blessedbeyondadoubt.com/spell-cards-printable/ – any problems accessing these email the school and I will help!

You could also try these games to help you learn and spell new tricky words:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/5-7-years/words-and-spelling

Writing/Art- Create a fact file about your favourite animal. Research an animal of your choice and explore the vocabulary required to describe them. Draw a detailed picture of them when you are finished.

Numeracy

-Select a number between 50 and 100. Make a poster showing how many different ways to make this number using addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

-Complete the task below which tests your knowledge of the 2, 5, and 10 times tables:

2,5,10-x-Table-Worksheet-1

IDL

Think back to our Scotland topic and all the fantastic facts we found out. I would like you to research Scottish traditions and customs such as wearing kilts and playing bagpipes, and the symbol of the Thistle. Create a mini poster or leaflet to include as much information as possible – remember to include pictures as well as your facts!

Music/Technology

Write a song about staying safe at home and why it is important. Put some music to your song by either using instruments you have at home or by making some – for example rice in a bottle makes a good shaker! If you are able to, please record your song and email it into school – I would LOVE to hear it!! There is some good ideas on creating homemade instruments in the video clip below, and I’m sure you could find some more!

Hope you have fun and have a great day!

Mrs Hillan

Happy Monday Primary 1/2 25.5.20

Good Morning Everyone!

Good Morning boys and girls, I hope everyone had a lovely relaxing weekend and are ready for all of this week’s home learning tasks.

Let’s start the week as we mean to go on…Let’s get moving! This is one of my favourite songs..

At 11am today the crew at Fischy Music are running another live assembly. Use Youtube ( with the help of an adult) to join in and maybe you will recognise some of the songs we sing in assembly or class. Below is a link to help you find it.

Reading

Follow the link to the Oxford Owls ebooks page –  https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/       and log in using   username  –  deans12      password – mrsstevenson

This week’s book is  ‘Everyone Got Wet’

Before reading the book, here are some questions to ponder.

  1. Can you predict what the book will be about?
  2. What do you think is happening on the front cover?
  3. Who will be the main characters in the story?
  4. Where is the story set?
  5. What do you think the big green container on the cover is for?
  6. Is everyone wet? why not?

With the help of an adult, read the story out loud. Remember all the things which a good reader does.

  • Follow the words with our fingers
  • Use the pictures for clues
  • Looks for words or sounds which we recognise
  • Knows what to do if we get stuck at a word

Once you have finished reading the book you can have a go at the online play activities which go alongside the book. Good luck and have fun.

Finally, have a go at phonics bloom – yes/no yeti game

https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/yes-no-yeti?phase=3    Read the sentences and answer yes or no to the questions.

Phonics

The new sound this week is  th – there are lots of th activity worksheets in your packs to help you learn all about this sound. Don’t forget to use them in addition to any activities I add on here.

I always call this the cheeky clown sound because you have to stick your tongue out a little to make the sound!

Here is the jolly jingle to go with the sound.

Can you think of any th words? Look around you, are there any objects which contain this sound?

Here is Geraldine, to give you a hand…

We need to be really careful not to get tricked out by this sound. It sounds very similar to f… but can you tell the difference?

Have a go at saying both these sounds out loud using the picture below. Try and feel the ‘cooling’ and think about where you feel it, on your lips or your teeth.

Now have a go at writing some words containing this sound. Have an adult read them out to you. Listen carefully.

th – i -ck          th – i – n       th -a -n -k       t -ee- th       t -oo -th

p – a – th        b – a – th       cl – o – th        w- i – th

Listening and Talking

LI – To talk clearly and with expression about a topic. SC – I can present a 2 minute detailed solo talk on a topic or event that interests me.

You did such a great job with your writing activity with Miss Taylor last week I thought you might enjoy this. Your talk can be about absolutely anything. It could be an area of World War 2, a hobby that you have or even be about your pets. It would be a good idea to write notes in your jotter then practise giving your talk. You could self assess using 2 stars and a wish. If you are able to, and would like to, you can send a video to the school email and then they will be forwarded to me. I would love to see them. Good luck!

French

P5/6 Monday 25th May

Highest priority today is “Learning in P56”. I have up-dated and up-loaded “Our Learning in P56”, which I have partially made with the help of Ethan and Thomas. Please will you check it and tell me what we are missing. What about the assemblies we have done? What about the birthday celebrations? Try to think in terms of the areas of the curriculum that I have used, and any others that you can think of. Please think of the three health activities, including one from PE, that were most important to your own personal learning over the year. Please also think of three activities from three different areas of the curriculum that were most important to your own personal learning over the year.

You should have done the survey by now: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=oyzTzM4Wj0KVQTctawUZKZrs4PcouytMv6A2R0y6TENUOFlCMVkwOTQyUTc0UFE4R0E5OTc0T1RNTy4u

Maths: Finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. This will help support your work on decimals to 3 places. If you have finished these you could do TJay 2a revision work on decimals: Chapters 5 and 7

  TJay 1b TJay 2a TJay 2b
Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a,b,c and d Chapter 13

Do you want a cycle rack, shelter, cycle lockers, secure storage or scooter shelter for the school? We can get these, but we have to apply for them. You are all now experts at writng these types of letters through all the learning you have done on persuasive writing (and cold calling (another drama activity we have done!)). All the resources you need have already been up-loaded and you have used them. I have also up-loaded the supporting information for the grant: “Sustrans Cycle Parking Grant”.

I don’t think we have fully realized the potential of HotPotatoes. If you have not tried it, please do.

I also don’t think anyone has finished “Education City”.

I think this week I might try to contact you guys again!

Have fun, take care and hope you had a good weekend!
