Happiness is ….. (P3, P3/4 and P4 writing )

As always, please complete these tasks when your class teacher asks you to!

Following on from last week when you had the chance to make your lockdown movie for the Sky Academy competition, we are again going to look at interviews.

Firstly, look at my blog post from yesterday all about “Positivity…”

Positivity! (Health and Wellbeing for all pupils)

Can you write a poem called “Happiness is….” based on everything that has made  you happy in the past 9 weeks?

I have attached my own version – could you do yours and illustrate it too?

Happiness is poem

Then find someone at home – or on the phone – to interview about what has made them happy.  You can write this on your script sheet – and if you have time you could film it too!

Good Morning Everyone! September - Back to School Stationery and Printables (With images ...

I hope you are all well and enjoyed the beautiful sunny weather we had yesterday. I am enjoying my early morning dog walks, there is so much to see and hear. The birds are really enjoying the quiet skies and are singing all the time. I even met a fox this morning I think it was making its way back to its den for a sleep as foxes are nocturnal. Some tasks for you to complete today.

Activity 1 – Free Phonics Cliparts, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art on ...   th sound

L.I. to understand that 2 letters can make 1 sound

S.C. I can say the sound to match the letter shape

S.C. I can blend this sound with other sounds to read words

S.C. I can write this letter

Yesterday I introduced you to the th sound.

Remember not to mix up the f and th sound!

th can be a quiet blue sound but it can also be a loud dark blue sound.

Watch the short clip below.

The loud, hard, dark blue th sound can usually be heard in our tricky words – the, them, then, that, this, these, those. Can you say thick then the can you hear the difference in the th sound makes? Practice saying these words, listen for the difference in the th sound.

thin      –        then            thumb     –    them            teeth        –    that

cloth      –       this             bath    –       these             thank      –     those

Choose 3  words with the loud hard th in them and write a sentence for each then complete the Word Building th from your pack. Challenge – Complete the th wordsearch.

Activity 2 – Reading Free Reading Clipart - Clip Art Pictures - Graphics - Illustrations

L.I. to find information from a text

S.C. I can use pictures in the book as a clue to help me recognise unfamiliar words

S.C. I can use words that I know in a sentence to help me predict what an unfamiliar  word could be

I hope you enjoyed reading and sharing Our Incredible Plant from Oxford Owls. I would like you to answer the questions below. You can answer them in sentences in your jotter or discuss them with someone in your house.

  1. How are we spoiling our planet?
  2. How do greenhouse gases get into the air?
  3. Write or discuss 2 things we can do to help?
  4. What gets rid of some of the gases from the air?

Create a poster displaying the things we can do to stop spoiling our planet. Take a picture of your poster and send it to the school via email. I would love to see them. Enjoy!

Activity 3 – Numeracy Curriculum clipart numeracy, Curriculum numeracy Transparent FREE ... Number Talks

L.I. to identify a pattern

S.C. I can show the steps I took to solve a problem

S.C. I can explain why I did it the way I did

S.C. I can check my answers and make sure my answer is correct

I have 2 number talks tasks for you today, the first one has dot and the second one has numerals.

Remember Number Talks are all about how you solve a task mentally. For this activity, don’t use anything to help you, just your brain!

Task 1

How many dots do you see and how do you see them? You can copy the pattern into you jotters and explain your thinking to someone in your home.

Task 2

What strategies did you use, can you explain how you worked out the answer?

9 + 1 =

9 + 3 =

9 + 5 =

9 + 7 =

Next I would like you to complete Doubles/near doubles, addition facts for 6 from your home learning pack. Remember knowing doubles and near doubles is a really useful strategy to use during number talks. A clip below that may be helpful. Enjoy!

Activity 4 – Art and Crafts

L.I, to use a range of media creatively

S.C. I can make a twig boat using recycled materials

How to make a twig boat

You don’t need very much to make a twig boat. Just some twigs, grass (or perhaps string/wool if you have any) a few fallen flowers and a leaf for the sail.

Step 1 – Collect some fallen twigs

Step 2 – Lay your grass or string down and then place the twigs on top

Step 3 – Tightly wrap the grass or string around the twigs, try to keep the twigs as flat as possible

Step 4- Take one extra twig and slot it into the bottom of your boat , this becomes your mast

Step 5 -Thread a leaf gently by poking the mast through it in 2 places- this will make your sail

Step 6 – Add a few tiny fallen flowers for decoration

Step 7 – Set it afloat in a bathtub, paddling pool etc.

Step 8 – Ask yourself the question – Does it float?

Have a great day. Tomorrow Mrs Stewart and Mrs Wallace will post some Wellbeing Wednesday activities. Enjoy!

Primary 3 – Tuesday 26th May

Good morning everyone!

Let’s wake ourselves up with this – I think you’ll love it!!:

Numeracy

We are going to look at Doubling Numbers today – this links nicely with your two times table that you have already been practising. Have a look at these videos, this first one is quite straight forward:

The second video looks at trickier numbers, but uses a method we are used to using which is PARTITIONING and we use this often in our number talks. This shows you how easy it is to double (or times by 2) bigger numbers:

Try doubling some numbers yourself or perhaps ask someone at home to give you some numbers to try!

Then give this task a go:

Doubling Dominoes – Tues 26th May

Literacy/Drama

Listen to Newsround and discuss what has been happening in the world this week. What new things have you found out?

Create your own news report on what has been happening in your day to day life just now. Why not try dressing up like a news reporter and present your report to your family or get them involved in presenting it!

Remember to look on the Blog for this week’s writing task from Miss Taylor when she posts it.

IDL

Research Holyrood Palace – create a mind map or spider diagram to write down as many facts as you can about it. You can use the template below if you wish, or create your own:

Blank Mind Map for Tues 26th May IDL

What are the connections between Holyrood Palace and The Royal Family (Monarchy) past and present? Research this and add this information on the back of your mind map or create a new one.

FRENCH

We will continue looking at Family in French.

Use the link below and select ‘Family’ then ‘family members’

https://www.french-games.net/frenchtopics

Next click on ‘full tutorial’ (all activities)

Work your way through these activities and games.

When you have finished, complete the test as the end of this lesson. Then draw a portrait of you and all of your family members. Label each family member and who they are to you, in French.

Health & Wellbeing

Watch the powerpoint on healthy or unhealthy choices. Then, if you can, print up the game board and play with an adult or another family member. Finally, there is a healthy eating colour sheet, just choose the food group you want to complete.

Terrific Tuesday Primary 1/2 26.5.20

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone managed to get outside and enjoy some glorious sunshine yesterday, hopefully that is the return of the sun for the time being! Let’s move on with some home learning for Tuesday, remember to keep working through  the tasks in your home learning packs too.

Reading

Yesterday we introduced the book ‘Everyone Got Wet’ on oxford Owls – you can access the book by following this link and logging in….  https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

user name deans12      password    mrsstevenson

Re-read the book with the help of an adult. You can then either choose to complete an activity from your home learning guided reading grid or you can complete the activity below.

Find the missing word from the story.

  1. Dad ____________________ at the water butt.
  2. Dad mended _______ water butt. He ______ a patch on it.
  3. The water butt burst.  All _______ water _________ out.
  4. Dad ________ wet.
  5. Mum put the hose on the _________.  The _______ of the _______ came off.
  6. Mum got _________ wet.

Good luck, remember you can scan through the book to help you find the sentence you need or can you challenge yourself to fill gap without looking?

Finally, I have added another reading game to our home learning section of Educationcity, it’s called – ‘On Cue’ – have fun and remember to listen carefully and read each of the options to complete the sentence.

Phonics

Yesterday we explored new sound th.  Just for fun I have added the ‘Alpha blocks – Thing‘ below to remind you of words containing this sound!

How quickly can you say the sound, remember the trick to tell the difference between th and f, don’t get tricked out by this sound! Can you explain the difference between these two sounds to an adult?

Today have a go at writing the sound using the join between the letters t and h. Below is an example to help you. Remember to self assess your work with ‘green for growth’ and ‘tickled pink’.

Finally, have a go at this code breaker activity.  Find the numbers which go alongside the letters to build a th word. Don’t forget to draw the picture to go with the word.

 Numeracy and Maths

Number Talks

Today let’s use a rekenrek to help us think about number.

Have a go at A, B and C. How do you see the beads? Remember we look at only the beads on the left. Can you write a number calculation to show how you see the beads on the top and bottom of the rekenrek?

Follow the link to an online rekenrek. You can play around with the beads to make different numbers.

https://apps.mathlearningcenter.org/number-rack/

Finally, here is a fun game to remind you of how to use a rekenrek. You have 3 seconds to shout out how many beads you can see… can you do it without counting. You can write the number down or simply shout it at the screen!

Science

Have a watch… Glasgow science centre have their own youtube channel full of fun and interesting experiments. Have an adult follow their facebook page to find out what experiments they are conducting this week.

Making Bubbles

I know that My little boy loves blowing bubbles and running after them to pop them. Have a go at making your own bubble mixture and wand and go outside and enjoy blowing some bubbles.. simple pleasures!!

That’s it for today boys and Girls, remember tomorrow is Well being Wednesday so I will be back on the blog on Thursday with some more home learning ideas.

P5/6 Tuesday 26th May

When using Teams please try not to click on “Start a new conversation” each time. Please click on “Reply”, as it makes things in there much easier to find. Thanks

Highest priority today is still “Learning in P56”. I have up-dated and up-loaded “Our Learning in P56”. Please think of the three health activities, including one from PE, that were most important to your own personal learning over the year. Please also think of three activities from three different areas of the curriculum that were most important to your own personal learning over the year. Create your own document, with your name on it, and up-load it to the folder “Learning in P56”. Ethan, Thomas, Adam and Gemma M, thank you, I have yours.

Maths: Finish money first and then move onto measure. I think all 4 parts of TJay 2a Chapter 13 (a,b,c and d) are useful. This will help support your work on decimals to 3 places. If you have finished these you could do TJay 2a revision work on decimals: Chapters 5 and 7

  TJay 1b TJay 2a TJay 2b
Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a,b,c and d Chapter 13

Art activity! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-52743922

Draw or photograph the view from your room.

Do you want a cycle rack, shelter, cycle lockers, secure storage or scooter shelter for the school? We can get these, but we have to apply for them. You are all now experts at writng these types of letters through all the learning you have done on persuasive writing (and cold calling (another drama activity we have done!)). All the resources you need have already been up-loaded and you have used them. I have also up-loaded the supporting information for the grant: “Sustrans Cycle Parking Grant”.

I don’t think we have fully realised the potential of HotPotatoes. If you have not tried it, please do.

I also don’t think anyone has finished “Education City”.

Have you done all of Mrs Lockhart’s work?

I have reduced the amount of work that I am posting: I am trying to make it more focused. Please let me know any thoughts.

Hope to speak to you today!!

Deans Den – Tuesday 26th May

Good morning!! I hope you are all safe and well and enjoying the beautiful weather. It is lovely to see the sun, but we must remember to be safe whilst playing outdoors. I have attached a powerpoint telling the different ways to stay safe in the sun. Ask a grown up to read it to you and afterwards, I would like you to draw picture of you and family keeping safe in the sun.
