THURSDAY 14.1.21

Hello everyone, Mrs Lockhart here. Hope you are all well.

Please remember that “Teams” gets really busy during the day so you are better off accessing the resources you need from “Files” the night before. Please also do not click on “New Conversation” in “Posts”. Please also remember it is not the correct platform for chat. Please do not post Giffs or pictures of pets etc, and keep your posting and pinging to the minimum, and this will make it easier for you to find things and be less distracting.

Today you meet at 9.00 for a live check in with Mrs Dobbie, then with me at 11.00 and again after lunch at 1.30 for a live dictation lesson. Hopefully this gives you time and space to complete the tasks and then meet up to discuss how things are going.

Also I made a little mistake on Monday! There is no need to print any activity, the expectation is you copy the worksheet into your jotter. Hope that makes things easier for everyone. If you can, then photo the work and upload it to your folder or email it in and that would be perfect.

All your work for the day from me is in the Class Materials folder dated 14.1.21. We are covering RME /French with Mrs Dobbie, Maths Problem Solving, a dictation and a prediction task from a story.

I have written down times to try and help with organisation but feel free to move things around or do them later if that’s easier.

Listen carefully and write your group’s dictation. We have done this many times in class so it should be straightforward.

2.00 Next task is to watch the story clip (only available in Team Files) and predict what happens at the end. Stop the clip when the wolf comes into the story and write your prediction down. Remember to give some evidence for your answer. Write your prediction and evidence in your jotter. I’m looking forward to reading your guesses. They don’t need to be correct but there does need to be some evidence to back them up. CHANGED clip difficult to access instead  watch the following clip and write two things you learned from the clip in your jotter.                                   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k09Q8A6Bxco

That’s all for today. I’m looking forward to being in touch with you again tomorrow. Take care everyone.

L/I To make a prediction.

S/C I can use my knowledge of what I have heard to make a prediction about what the story may be about and what roles the main characters may play.

Task: Write down your prediction of what you think the story is going to be about. Then note down the roles that you think the characters of Chloe and Mr Stink may play in the story. You can use the prediction sheet below to record (write or type on) your predictions or you can note these down in your own notebooks etc then put a copy into your folder in the Files Section on Teams or email to the school.

IDL

We will come back to our Egyptians topic, but I thought it would be good to complete a personal project whilst we are working online. We will use a Scottish theme for our projects. With this in mind you could do your project on Scottish landmarks, Scottish food, Scottish sports, Scottish animals, Scottish Myths and Legends, or anything else you can think of. Please use the Personal Project sheet below to record which topic you would like to do your Personal Project on, and place it in your folder or email the school. I will then let you know if you chosen topic is suitable. I will give you some ideas on what you can include in your personal project after this.

Tues 12th – Personal Project

Enjoy your day!! Miss Taylor will be with you first thing tomorrow for a writing lesson.

Merry Christmas from P4/3

What a fun week in P4/3 as we were all feeling in the festive spirit!! We enjoyed watching Christmas movies, making crafts and spending time with our friends. We were even lucky enough to have a special visitor during our movie afternoon on Tuesday!!

Wishing everyone a safe, restful and peaceful holiday. Looking forward to seeing the children return in January 2021, Merry Christmas !!!   Mrs Morrison xx

A Digital Nativity

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, our Nativity production this year looks very different.  All classes in the school have been involved in creating a stop frame animation of The Christmas Story.

The story was divided into scenes, with each class being responsible for a scene.  Pupils made the scenery and props, and set up the scene for their class.  Everyone in the class was involved in helping to animate their class scene, and pupils were able to work in small groups at a safe distance.

The stop frame animation involved positioning the characters in the scene, taking a photo, then moving the characters a very small distance.  Another photo taken, another tiny movement made, another photo taken, and this was repeated over 100 times for each scene.  When all the pictures are sequenced and viewed one after another, the characters appear to move by themselves.

There has been a huge amount of work from the pupils involved in creating this year’s Nativity – well done everyone.
We all hope that you enjoy watching it.

Lights, Camera, Action in P4/3!!

This week, P4/3 learned about stop frame animation during their time with Mrs Buntin. All of the children made contributions to re-telling the Christmas story using the technique of stop frame. A big well done to Ashley and Nathaniel who were able to describe and demonstrate the process to Mrs Morrison!! Look out next week (via e-mail) for the finished piece of work, well done P4/3!

Next week, we will enjoy our last week of term before the Christmas holidays. A big well done to all of the children for dealing  so well with the changes that have had to be implemented due to COVID-19. Mrs Morrison is proud of you all!

Special events next week:

Tuesday 15th December- movie afternoon and snacks!

Wednesday 16th December- P4/3 record a Christmas poem. Children to wear Christmas jumpers or something sparkly!!

Enjoy your weekend and I will check in with you all next week.

This week in Primary 4

In Numeracy we have looked at some more subtraction problems. We have been looking at subtraction facts to 20 this week as well as subtraction problems involving odd and even numbers. Here are some examples of our good work:

In writing this week we wrote a letter to Santa or a letter about what we would like to do in the holidays. We used the skills we have been learning about, such as an introduction and using paragraphs. Here are some of our letters:

In Reading this week we have continued reading in our groups as well as listening to and discussing our class novel which is The Christmasaurus. Here are some of our thoughts on the story so far:

I like William because he is trying his best to stand up for himself.  I don’t like Brenda because she is a big bully! – Emily

Brenda Payne is really mean to William because he is in a wheelchair. – Ryley

I thought Brenda was nice at first, but now I hate her! – Erin R

The book is funny and silly at the same time. – Ariah

The book is very interesting and spooky because we wouldn’t want to be watched by someone in a postbox! – Chloe

It is good to be able to predict what will happen next! – Derry

Brenda is mean and selfish – Hadiyaah

There is a dinosaur in the North Pole who wants to fly like the reindeer. – Lacey

It was funny when the Christmasaurus was born! – Stevi

The dinosaur’s egg was in ice. – Summer
