Primary 3 – Wednesday 29th April

Welcome to Wednesday everybody!

Hope you are enjoying the activities in your new packs!

Here are some other tasks to keep you going and you will get some more for the end of the week from Mrs Morrison & Mrs Lockhart.

Literacy/Art/Drama – Create a mask of one of the characters in the book you are reading or a favourite story of yours. Using this try a ‘hot-seating’ activity where you pretend to be that character – ask someone to ask you some questions and you try answering them as if you were that character! You could make another character mask and ask someone else at home to be in the ‘hot-seat’ and you ask the questions this time!

Take a note of any good questions you think of!

Writing – Use the link to find this week’s writing task from Miss Taylor that is linked to the Rainbow family learning post that she put up on Monday:

Numeracy – Revisit Place Value and show your ability to recognise the place value for numbers up to 99 with this game : Place value basketball game . Use the link below:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/place-value-basketball

French –We have practised the days of the week and the numbers to 20 in French, now let us have a look at the months of the year! Take a look at the video below:

Try this game afterwards:

IDL/Art/Technology: Using materials you have at home create a model or picture of the Giant’s Causeway – google this to see lots of different images to help you out. Please take photos if you can and email them to me at the school email!

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your week! Remember that it is a holiday next Monday and Tuesday for you, and I will be back on to post activities on Wednesday! Miss you all lots!

39 Good Morning Everyone Photo

Hello everyone! I hope you managed to pick up your new learning packs, these should keep you going for the next couple of weeks at least.

Literacy: I have included spelling lists again in your new packs so you can continue learning your next set of words each week. Remember to practise these throughout the week. See if you can find a new way to practise your words.

Listen to a story being read on:

https://www.storylineonline.net/

-note down the story you chose and say why you picked it? Give a review on it – what did you like/not like about it? Would you recommend it to someone else to listen to or read?

Numeracy – Write out your 5 times table and ask someone at home to check you have them all correct and to test you on these!

You can also watch the video below to help remind you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KyDZ7f1RfE

IDL – Watch the story that tells the legend of how the Giant’s Causeway was formed using these two video clips:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHygfkHD5TE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlNdhq1OOeU

Try retelling the story in your own words – you could do this as an extended story or as a cartoon strip with the story written underneath each picture. You could even try to write your own versions of this legend. You can use the comic strip template below:

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning everyone! Welcome to another week of activities. You can now pick up your new learning packs from the school office – I have put your name on each of your packs.

Let’s start the week with some Joe Wicks:

Literacy – Look at a family in a traditional story (like Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella etc) – how are they different to your family? Can you write sentences comparing the two families?

Why not try reading something different this week? Remember you can access books like the Oxford Reading Tree ones from:  https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

If you click the Pink icon at the top right that says ‘My Class Login’ and enter Primary 3 Deans as the username and Mrs Hillan as the password then you can access these if you haven’t set up your own account.

Numeracy –  Use this link to play Hit the Button – to practise your number bonds, halving, doubling and times tables : https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Why not try challenging someone at home!!

Art & Design – Draw something you love – it could be a favourite toy, your pet or another item in your house, or maybe something in your garden, anything you love! Try to include as much detail as possible!

Enjoy your day!

Mrs Hillan

P3- Friday24th April

Good morning from Mrs Morrison!! I hope you are safe and well and enjoying the beautiful weather we have been experiencing of late. I will be posting activities every Friday covering curricular areas such as P..E, Science and Maths.

I know Mrs Hillan encourages you to participate in  Joe Wicks, The Body Coach workouts and I thought it would be a good idea to keep a fitness diary to record how often you are keeping fit and the different exercises you are completing. I have attached an example of a fitness diary, please copy into your homework jotter and complete on a daily basis.

Science

Glasgow Science Centre are conducting daily ‘virtual’ science workshops at 10am and I thought some of you budding scientists would like to watch and maybe try out their experiments. Here is the link:

https://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/gsc-at-home

I have also attached some science challenge cards to try. I think challenge 18 ‘Dancing Raisins’ and challenge 19 ‘How to make a lava lamp’ look like fun! Try them out, but remember to get your parents permission before you do. Please send in photos of your efforts to the school email, I would love to see them!

Maths

Over the next few Fridays we are going to learn about measure. Why do you think this is an important skill to learn? Which careers need to have a good understanding of measure? Discuss your ideas with a grown up and then have some fun around the house measuring different items. Record your findings in your home learning jotter.

Enjoy the activities P3 and I will check in with you next Friday.

P.3 (23.04.2020)

Good morning everyone, Mrs Lockhart here.

I’m getting a chance to work with you on a Thursday now so I’ve been busy thinking up some fun activities for you.

I hope you are all well this morning and ready for another day of learning!

Mrs Hillan has encouraged me to do the Joe Wicks workout. Use her link again for you and anyone else in your house who wants to join in and get moving. It’s a great start to your day!

Next I thought we could revise some information handling work. Complete the attached worksheet all about our eye colour.

eye colour bar graph

Now we have some tasks around our Religious Education learning. A few weeks ago now we were discussing our values in class. Values like being kind, saying sorry or caring for all. Look at the Lost Sheep powerpoint.

he-Lost-Sheep-Story-Powerpoint_ver_2

It is a story from the Bible (a Christian’s special book) with an important message.

Create a poster, to demonstrate the Caring for All value that the Bible story illustrates, in the following worksheet.

caring for all poster

Finally I thought we could complete our tasks for today by thinking about our wellbeing. Watch the following slideshow and try out these simple yoga breathing techniques.

Yoga Breathe and Feel Good – Presentation

Then complete the worksheet which reminds us about all the things that keep us healthy inside and out.

Feeling Good Inside and Out Activity

I’ll be back next Thursday. Enjoy your day!

Primary 3 – Wednesday 22nd April

Good morning everyone and Happy Earth Day!!!

Earth Day is celebrated every year on the 22 of April for the last 47 years. In 1970, a US Senator from Wisconsin, created this national day to create awareness of the environment and how we treat nature. Today this day is celebrated as an international event in 193 countries.

I thought in order to celebrate this, it would be a good idea for you to use whatever you have available at home to create your own ‘Earth’ picture. Below are some lovely ideas:

Below is a link to a Minecraft challenge. The challenge involves building your own sculpture for Jupiter Artland. The winning design will join the permanent collection at Jupiter’s online universe plus other goodies.

Numeracy – Try this Multiplication Game:

Jungle Multiplication Game

Literacy – Watch Newsround and find out what is new today – what did you find out? Is there anything you need help understanding? Ask someone at home or Google it.

-Create a bookmark – perhaps you could choose characters from your favourite stories.

-Read a new story today – use your new bookmark to keep your place.

Remember you can access books like the Oxford Reading Tree ones from:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

If you click the Pink icon at the top right that says ‘My Class Login’ and enter Primary 3 Deans as the username and Mrs Hillan as the password then you can access these if you haven’t set up your own account.

Writing Task – see the task on the Blog from Miss Taylor for this week’s writing task on Lucy’s Lockdown

On Thursday and Friday you should hopefully see some tasks put on from Mrs Morrison and Mrs Lockart.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Mrs Hillan

Primary 3 – Tuesday 21st April

Good morning everyone!

Hope we are all remembering to do our daily exercise! Remember you can go on to Joe Wick’s lessons or you could ask someone at home to create an account on GoNoodle – it is free to join!

Literacy – Pick something to read – fiction or non-fiction (could be a book or something online)  – Take notes from what you have read – list at least 10 key points or new things you have found out.

*Local libraries are providing ebooks online for you to choose from – you can ask an adult at home to register for free  by following the link below:

https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/eBooks

Numeracy – Write out your 2 times table and ask someone at home to check you have them all correct and to test you on these!

You can also watch the video below to help remind you!

IDL: Continuing with our topic on Great Britain, below is a picture of the Welsh Flag:

There are many stories of dragons throughout history, and we cannot be sure why the dragon was chosen for the Welsh flag. We do know that Henry Tudor carried a flag depicting the dragon into battle in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth Field. Many Welsh people today are proud of the red dragon as it symbolises strength and courage. Which animal would you chose to represent our country if you could pick one – draw this and say why you picked it. You can also try drawing the Welsh Flag.

Enjoy your day!!

Primary 3 – Monday 20th April

Welcome back everyone!!!

Hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and feel well rested. It would be lovely to see any of the fun activities you got up to over the holidays, any of the STEM challenge activities you completed or any other things you have created – remember you can share these on the school website!

You should still have some activities in your packs to keep you going, but here are some other activities you could also do this week:

  • Write a personal story about your Easter holidays – What things did you do? When did you do them? Who was with you? Where were you? How did you feel?

  • Pick one of the characters from your reading book or a book you are reading at home – create a character description of them. You can draw the character and around them write some WOW words to describe how they look and their personality or you can write a description of them underneath. Include as much information as you can on them.

  • Lead your own Number Talk at home – create some questions using adding, take away or multiplication – ask people at home to work out the answers to these and then explain to you how they got their answers. Check to see who agrees with each other! Remember that you must know the answers to the questions you ask!

Enjoy the sunshine!!!

Mrs Hillan

Primary 3 – Wednesday 1st April 2020

Good morning everybody! Hope you are having a lovely week so far. Below are some other tasks for today:

-Research April Fools Day – read up on why people play April Fools Tricks.

Write a made-up story of something you have apparently done– something that is almost believable, but silly too.

  • Create some tricky adding and takeaway sums for someone at home to do. Ask them to create some for you too – see who gets the most correct!

  • Take a walk around your house – note down at least 10 items – try your best to spell them correctly. Use a dictionary or Google to check the spelling of each word and then write a definition next to each one to say what it means.

  • Watch the Easter Story – write down the 3 most important points you took from this:

  • Create an Easter card for your family. Use whatever materials you have to make this as bright and fun as possible. If you Google DIY Easter cards, they have some super ideas.
  • Easter wordsearch – you can use the link below to access one or you can Google Easter word search and there are loads you can download.

https://www.dltk-holidays.com/t.asp?t=https://www.dltk-holidays.com/easter/images/c-wordsearch.gif

I will also post a writing task from Miss Taylor and RME task from Mrs Lockhart very shortly.

This will be the last day I add extra activities this week, you might get some on Thursday or Friday from Mrs Wallace or Mrs Stewart. Have a lovely Easter, have fun, relax and stay safe!!!!
