New sound today. J is a loud green sound that you make at the back of your throat. Practice saying the sound.

       

As you can see from the slide above, Jack slides down the beanstalk just like you will do with your pencil, all the way  under the line, then  lift your pencil and put a dot at the top of the cloud. Practice writing the j sound in your jotter. Can you blend the sounds below to make and say words?

For this writing activity I would like you to firstly go to your home learning pack, writing activities , task for week three. There is a picture of a little girl reaching up to open a magic door. Have a look at the picture and think about why she was there? what was she looking for? how was she feeling? You have a story starter  There was a loud bang and to my surprise a door appeared on the garden wall……… You can copy the story starter into your jotter and then continue by describing what happened when she pushed the door opened! I have noticed when I have been out on my walks little painted houses that have been made by children. I think they look beautiful and make people smile!

wh is a loud red lip sound. wh words often sound like w words when they are at the beginning of a word. Try blending these sounds together to make wh words.

A number of words with the wh sound at the beginning are questioning words. Have a go at blending these sounds together to make words.

Can you create a sentence for each of the wh questioning words? For example- What is your favourite season of the year? (remember when you are asking a question you always need to end the sentence with a question mark)

Two numbers talks today the first one – How many dots are there and how do you see them?

The second one is a little bit different – the question (for each ten frame) is how many dots do you see and how many more to make 10?

Can you explain the strategy you used? For example, I may say “I see 4 dots and  I already know that 4 and 6 make 10, so I would need 6 more dots to fill the  10 frame.

I would like you to complete Measuring using your feet, Page 9 from you Home Learning Pack. You may not have the objects that it is asking you to measure  so why not get inventive and measure things in your room/house or in the garden  The important thing is to use your feet to measure. Remember Heel to Toe when measuring. Challenge –  can you find an object and estimate how many feet long it is then measure it using your feet. How accurate was your estimation?

I would like you to turn to Counting to 20 home activity 6 from your home learning pack. Try activity 1 – collect 20 pegs/counters etc. and make number cards 11-20 , lay them face down on the table, turn one over and count out that many e.g. if you turn over a card with 15 then count out 15 pegs/counters etc. You can challenge yourself by increasing the cards to 30 or 40 (make sure you have that many objects to count) Enjoy!Then complete the next part of the page how many apples? and draw……… apples. Top  Tip– remember when counting the apples it may be a good idea to cross them off so you don’t count them twice or not at all.

As it is Friday, I thought you might like to try a little art activity. Below is a picture of a tree, a very personal tree. It is personal because the person who painted it used their fingerprints to create foliage. So why not try to make your own personal tree. Firstly, you need to draw the trunk and branches (as below, you may need a little help) then using your finger tips dip them in print (Make sure you don’t use too much or you won’t see the lines of your finger prints) and lastly decorate the tree with them. Enjoy! Alternatively you could use different shades of green and create a background for your tree.

The birds are really enjoying the quiet skies and are singing all the time. I even met a fox this morning I think it was making its way back to its den for a sleep as foxes are nocturnal. Remember not to mix up the f and th sound!

th can be a quiet blue sound but it can also be a loud dark blue sound.

The loud, hard, dark blue th sound can usually be heard in our tricky words – the, them, then, that, this, these, those. Can you say thick then the can you hear the difference in the th sound makes? Practice saying these words, listen for the difference in the th sound.

Activity 4 – Art and Crafts

How to make a twig boat

You don’t need very much to make a twig boat. Just some twigs, grass (or perhaps string/wool if you have any) a few fallen flowers and a leaf for the sail.

Step 1 – Collect some fallen twigs

Step 2 – Lay your grass or string down and then place the twigs on top

Step 3 – Tightly wrap the grass or string around the twigs, try to keep the twigs as flat as possible

Step 4- Take one extra twig and slot it into the bottom of your boat , this becomes your mast

Step 5 -Thread a leaf gently by poking the mast through it in 2 places- this will make your sail

Step 6 – Add a few tiny fallen flowers for decoration

Step 7 – Set it afloat in a bathtub, paddling pool etc.

Step 8 – Ask yourself the question – Does it float?

I would like you to use your jotter to write as many sentences as you can describing what you have been doing while you have been at home. Remember last Friday we looked at longer and shorter so this week we are increasing our measure vocabulary to include tallest ans shortest. Our Health and Wellbeing topic for this part of the term is Relationships. We have lots of different kinds relationships. We are part of a family and we know that there are lots of kinds of families. We also have a relationship with our friends at school and at home. We have been learning the “build up” song at school and have spent time talking about how important it is to give people compliments and make them feel good.
