This Week in P3/2

Read, Write, Count

We loved coming to school in our jammies on Tuesday. All our lessons were about the book ‘ROCKETMOLE’. We created a fact file about ourselves during writing this week. Armstrong the Rocketmole wrote a letter to us asking for our help with addition. We were all every excited to receive our Read, Write, Count Bags.

Literacy

In writing, we were persuading the reader that reading was important. We had a class discussion before we started and we identified all the different ways that we use reading in our everyday life. When included powerful persuasive language and connecting words within our writing.

In P3/2 we worked very hard sounding out our spelling words. We continued with rainbow writing and using our words in sentences. This week, we also found making a chant a useful strategy to help us remember how to spell our words.

Maths

This week, we were learning about addition. When adding our numbers together we found number squares and sticks useful to help us calculate the answer. We were also working on addition word problems.

IDL

In our Vikings topic, we were learning about what food th

e Vikings ate. The Vikings did not have supermarkets like we have today and they could not import food from other countries. Therefore, the Vikings could only get food that they could grow and catch. To keep their meat and fish fresher for longer, the Vikings would salt or smoke them.

P5 Have Fun!

P5 have had a fun week this week.

Christmas Card Competition

Mrs Stewart set the class a task of designing a Christmas card. Miss Stanway had a difficult job of picking a winning one because the standard was so high! This card will be sent out to a community group.

Summer – My card was a Christmas tree with a snowy window!

Health

Bella – Football is fun.

We love seeing Bella buzzing around enthusiastically like a rocket on the football pitch in her bobble hat although Oscar being successfully tackled by a large plant pot this week was a sight to behold!

Topic – Europe

This week we learnt about the Seville Fair that usually happens every year in Spain.

Colin – we designed a persuasive poster to encourage people to go to the fair.

Our success criteria for designing a good poster included detailed pictures of an appropriate size, colourful font and a persuasive slogan. Cameron knew it was important to make sure important information such as when and where it took place was included.

We listened to some flamenco music and many of the children were keen to have a go at being flamenco dancers.

Bailey enjoyed being a bull and Leo volunteered to be a matador with a swirling cape. This led to an interesting conversation about animal cruelty.

Music

We started our music sessions with ‘Limelight’ and have been practising using our body as a percussion instrument!

Numeracy

This week we have learnt different strategies for mental subtraction such as counting up to and we have used number lines to support our thinking.

Look out for our numeracy video coming soon!

Literacy

After reading this week, we practised writing a summary of what we have read. It is important to only include key information and make sure the facts are in the correct order. As we found this tricky, we agreed that it is a skill we need to practise.

Look out for our spelling strategy video coming out soon!

Compliment box

Jaxson was chosen this week and the class had several compliments to give him because he is so supportive and kind.

Homework

Some people brought in homework to share with the class, which was a very high standard. Well done everybody!

Sharing the learning with P4/3

What a busy week in P4/3 as we have been working collaboratively (a skill for life) to discuss, organise, present and film our learning for parents/carers to view. Look out for the link being sent to your e-mail, so you can watch our amazing presenting skills and learn more about what takes place in class!!

Outdoor Learning

All of the class enjoy outdoor learning with Mrs Dobbie on a Friday morning. Here are some pictures which showcase the learning that takes place in our outdoor environment.

We continue to develop our literacy skills and participate in spelling activities on a daily basis. This consistent approach is certainly helping as some children are scoring 100% in their dictation assessments at the end of the week. Well done P4/3, keep up the good work.

Have a lovely weekend and I will check in with you next Friday.
