Literacy

Book Week

This week it was Book Week Scotland so we had a ‘blether’ about what are favourite books were.

Lily-Elen – I like Jaqueline Wilson.

Writing

We wrote some terrific stories this week using the main character in our reading book. Colin and his partner wrote a great opener that we agreed would make us want to read on.

Reading

This week we practised our visualisation skills and drew scenes from stories in our reading books.

Numeracy

This week we practised adding multiples of 10 and discussed different strategies.

Maths

This week we walked around the school on a shape hunt and discussed why certain shapes such as cuboids were used to make things.

Art

As part of our work on shape we used clay to sculpt imaginary creatures using tools to create various effects.  Alexis – I made a Unibug.          Sophie P – I made a dog that had a turtle shell and a unicorn.

Health

During P.E. we have been practising running without stopping for four minutes. We are much fitter now!

We have also discussed what makes us happy. Most of us said it was our family and surprisingly when given a list of different things most of us said tablets/IPads are the least important when it comes to happiness. We learnt about how some children living in different circumstances would be happier if they were able to go to school more and have larger houses with running water.

Hello everyone! Here is an update on what we have been learning this week.

IDL- We have been learning about they types of animals living in the Amazon Rainforest.  We then creates a Diorama to show all the things we learnt so far.  We had to include the following information;

  • Food chain
  • Labels of animals and the layers.
  • Habitats each animal lives in
  • Individual animal’s diet
  • Information sheet/ Poster.

We have been learning different strategies to subtract three digit numbers.

In Literacy, we have been uplevelling our persuasive text by using various vocabulary (we have not used before).  We also used higher level connectives.

P4/3 Update

It has been another busy week in P4/3 as we continue to build on our learning, challenge ourselves and trying our very best with every task. We have been exploring different texts, with a focus on identifying the differences between fiction and non- fiction books. This is a key skill to develop as the majority of texts children will explore in high school will be non- fiction. We have also been looking at the different types of questions, specifically open and closed questions. Ask your child what is different about each type of question.

Next week, we are looking forward to preparing videos that show case the learning in P4/3 and will be sent home for you to view. This may test Mrs Morrison’s IT skills, however I’m up for the challenge!!!!

Have a lovely weekend and I will check in with you next Friday.
