Busy Little Bugs in Primary 1 and 1/2

It’s been such an exciting week down in Primary 1 and 2/1.

We were so so lucky to meet a real life author. Her name was Regina Nurney and her book was called ‘The Ladybird who Found her Spots’. She read us her super story and we were able to ask her lots of interesting questions.

Sophie – It was nice to meet a real author, she was able to share her book.

Levente would like to say thank you to Regina,  I loved the book.

We had a go at being authors and illustrators too! We designed our own bugs and wrote a story to go with our illustrations.

Sophie wrote a fantastic story about her bug giving piggy back rides and living in a rose house. Sophie was ‘mega’ happy with her story about Poppy the bug.

Brendan and Tyler also did a wonderful job with their stories. Brendan loved drawing the bug and would love to be an illustrator one day. Tyler loved the spider he drew because it was nice and tall and would never get stood on.

Lexie has been working hard using the sentence logs to practise her writing skills. We are so glad you love school Lexie.

Our sound this week has been ‘v’. We have made v volcanoes to help us remember the letter shape. We  finger painted using hot colours to represent the lava, it was great but messy fun!

Mark –  it was fun using our fingers and I loved feeling the paint – it was soft and gooey.

Aayan –  I liked that it looked like fire and lava!!

Primary 2/1 have been lucky to have Mr Paterson working in our classroom. He has been busy helping the P2’s with their numeracy skills. Rihanna had the challenge of giving Mr Paterson a number talk using a pattern of 20 dots and then making the calculation to go with it.  Mr Paterson did a good job – thumbs up from us!

Primary 1 have been working hard matching numerals to number words. Brendan and Nathaniel did a great job at busy start with this task and were very quick and confident to complete their job.

Lucy brought her very own Nessie in to share with the class. She just loved the tartan – well done Lucy for sharing your learning at home with Gran.

We have been very lucky to have been able to turn our cloakroom into a creative construction area. We have been using our imagination to build roads and towers. We have been using our teamwork skills to help each other and to solve problems.

Tyller made a ‘danger track’ where you need to watch out for tricky obstacles for spikes and floating objects which could harm you!!!

Sarah-Louise was very proud of her tower, she used big blocks at the bottoms and smaller ones at the top! She did a great job balancing her tower so it was steady and secure.

Tadas was working together with Elkie to build a race track. They were working on making it really tricky for cars. Elkie made the cars for the track. Well done on such great teamwork.

We have been investigating loose parts in our classrooms. This week we created a forest using all sorts of different materials including logs, cones, corks and pebbles. We even wrote the word forest using our letter logs. We made up lots of stories to retell using finger puppets. It was so much fun.

Lewis, Chloe and Kullyn have been making a big giant forest. Lewis loved it and was so keen to practise making words out the letter logs too.

Fractions in P5/6

In maths we explored fractions using numicon. Pupils worked in groups to show the different ways to represent a fraction.

This led to lots of rich discussion around the relationship between multiplication, division and fractions. We also discovered which numbers could not be used to represent certain fractions and discussed the reasons why.

P3 Celebrate World Book Day with a Difference

Primary 3 have been busy writing dog stories.  We have lots of soft toy dogs in our class, and we love reading with them.  We were imagining what the class dogs might do once everyone had gone home, and we have written some lovely stories.  We have been learning to type up the stories on the computer, and this week, we have been taking photographs of the dogs and inserting the pictures into the stories.  We decided to make a book of short stories.  We had a class vote to decide the order of the stories.  We have been learning about alphabetical order, and we have put the stories into dog’s name order.

On Friday, there was a surprise parcel in the class……..

……our book has been finished, and we are able to launch it this week.  We are very excited about sharing our work.

Highland Clearances in P5/6

This week in P5/6 we got a nasty surprise when the laird appeared in our village and told us we had to leave our homes within 3 days. The land was needed for sheep and our rent was overdue.

This made us sad, angry and disappointed. We decided to write to the laird to convince him to let us keep our homes. We discussed persuasive language and used this to compose letters.

Later we  worked as a group and thought about what we would do if we actually had to leave. What would we take? Why? Where would we go and why? Lots of discussion and decision making took place.

Fun Times in P3/4

It has been a busy couple of weeks in P 3/4. We have really enjoyed ‘The Mystery Tour of Scotland’ topic and learned a lot about Scottish Myths and Legends, even transferring our knowledge onto powerpoints!! Mrs Murray then taught us all about the scottish artist, Charles Rennie McIntosh and we made lovely drawings that represented his work. Please have a look at them when you visit our class during parent’s evening.

This week we have begun our new topic, ‘The Egyptians’ and already we have been researching famous people from those times, creating timelines and exploring Egyptian jewellery. We are also excited to be working with p3 and p4 during this topic.

Fairtrade Fun

We have had another great week in primary 1 and 1/2.

We are really proud of our Fairtrade posters.  We included lots of detail including the Fairtrade symbol. We are getting really confident at spotting and sorting products that are Fairtrade.

Aayan and Arthur brought in Fairtrade wrappers to share with us and were able to talk about the logo and what it means. Harrison and Brendan brought in lots of examples to show on our Fairtrade wall. Well done boys!

Finlay- We worked really hard on them.

Elkie- I worked hard on my poster and I really like it.

Lucy- I liked drawing all the food especially the strawberries.

Charlie- I like my poster because I made myself buying a Fairtrade cookie.

We have even been making Fairtrade farmer faces from our loose parts. Lots of fun!!

Chloe- I liked the prickly things for his eyes. He is smiling because we are supporting Fairtrade.

Sophie – I drew a Fairtrade pineapple. It was really tricky especially the jaggy bits.

We have had a twit twooooooo  book week. We have been enjoying books about Owls. We have read Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and The Owl who was afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. We decided to write about things that we are afraid of……..mostly spiders! Darby and Sarah- Louise included lots of detail in their story.   We had a really good discussion about our school values and what made us feel safe in school. The boys and girls were able to share some lovely examples of what and who made them feel safe in school. We also drew some amazing owls, we think we could illustrate our own books!

Lucy- I liked the illustrations in the story book.

Roman- I liked using crazy colours for the owls . It made them really cool.

Maison- I think it was really fun to colour them in.

This week we have also been reading with our buddies. We were reading in the gym hall. We can read anywhere!!

Lexie-  I enjoyed sharing my story with my buddy.

Sophie- I liked reading my favorite book’ The Gruffalo’ with my buddy. It was fun reading in the hall but the floor was a bit cold.

Elkie- It was good to talk about the story with my buddy.

Joseph- My book was cool because it was funny and I could read the Title by myself.

We also took our buddies to our class to show off our amazing new toys and resources. We think the Primary 7’s enjoyed playing with them just as much as we do!

Aayan -enjoyed playing with his buddy and our new fire engine.

We have enjoyed playing Fire Fighters this week and unfortunately our house went on fire. Luckily we had lots of firefighters who knew what to do in this emergency and we had built our own firestation… PHEW!

We had a new teacher this week. Levente taught us how to say hello in polish         ‘dzien dobry’and to say some numbers. Well done Levente for leading the learning.

Levente- It was fun.

Homework Star of the Week- Skye

Well done Skye, what a lot of work and learning at home!!

Primary 4

This week our class have enjoyed working with pupils and teachers from different classes. They have been learning about different aspects of Egypt such as Tutenkhamun, timelines, hieroglyphics and how we find evidence from the past. Those pupils who attend homework club also drew pictures of Egyptian jewellery. We look forward to more sessions next week.

We have started work on fractions and have been learning about the related vocabulary such as numerator, denominator, sharing and grouping. We have been able to buy some new maths games and resources which pupils have enjoyed using.

Education City has been updated with new fraction and grammar activities, your child should have brought home an updated password for the site at the beginning of the week.
