P5 Basketball Festival

On Wednesday P5 took part in the cluster Basketball Festival at DCHS. All pupils showed great team work and super sportsmanship. They also showed fantastic improvement in their basketball skills.

Many thanks to all our adult helpers who accompanied us to the festival.

Here are our proud players with their certificate.

Families Connect

Today we got crafty at our Families Connect session! We were working on different types of praise, such as, genuine, without a sting in the tail, specific and focused on effort. Adults and children then worked together to create ‘Superstar Awards’ using a variety of craft materials. We had a great time celebrating positive things we have been doing recently.

Next week our focus is on the importance of listening.

Primary 4

This week P4 have completed their first information writing session. They were writing about the importance of the River Nile to the people of ancient Egypt. Pupils said that they found the session challenging but enjoyable and we will continue to work on this genre next week.

We have continued to do our vertical learning sessions with P3 and P3/4. The classes have enjoyed working in mixed groups and the opportunity to work with different staff on new activities. We would like to thank Mr Patterson for working with one of our groups this week.

In art P4 created some excellent pictures of pyramids and are looking forward to working on clay scarab beetles next week.

Pupils have been encouraged to focus on improving their presentation in jotters this week and we hope that parents/ carers will be able to see a difference next week at parents’ evenings. If you haven’t made an appointment there are still spaces available so please get in touch.

Fond farewells in P3/4

On Friday, we said our farewell to Mrs Murray who had been working with us over the past 6 weeks. We will miss her, but we’re glad she’s going to come  on our class trip to the Museum of Scotland on Tuesday 2nd April. Letters about the trip will be sent home next week.

R E S P E C T

….Find out what it means to us!

This week we have been working hard on one of our school values “Respect”.  We have been working in small groups to make mini drama scenes for each of the letters in the word respect.

We presented the values assembly for the school, and we were very enthusiastic singing the R E S P E C T song.  We worked together to make up actions for the respect song.  At the end of the assembly, we taught all the classes our dance moves.

Sharing our Learning in P5/6

On Wednesday we shared our learning with parents, carers, family members and friends. Many thanks to everyone who came along – there was an amazing atmosphere. It was great to see pupils so enthusiastic about their learning and able to discuss it with all the adults who came along to visit.

Families Connect 2019!

Today was our first session of our Families Connect programme 2019! the adults enjoyed getting to know one another over a cup of tea and some biscuits (shh!) and the children enjoyed sharing snack, working with one another and their grown up, and getting to take home some goodies.

Today we were learning about and discussing feelings and how our bodies can show the way we are feeling. The children (and adults!) had great fun using magnifying glasses to investigate physical signs of feelings.

Next week we are going to be discussing and doing activities related to the importance of praise.
