Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope you are all well.
Communication update:
Following discussions at our recent Parent Council we have formed a group to look at suggestions from families as to how we can better streamline communications from Calderwood Nursery. Some suggestions have included:

A short weekly email with links to actions/ information on the blog (separated into the two categories) rather than a long monthly newsletter email.

Separating the blog from twitter, with twitter being a showcase for targeted events.

Monthly Calendar email.

The blog will continue to be a one stop shop but we will improve the categories for navigation.

Reviewing the new strategies in November.

CHAMPION UPDATE
Huge congratulations to Miss Huddleston and Mrs McGinlay who are taking up new Early Years Practitioner roles at WL nurseries. We thank them for all their efforts in our first year at Calderwood Nursery and wish them the best of luck in their new adventures. We will keep you posted on when their last days are. During this period, we will begin the recruitment process for new champions who will join our Calderwood Family. We will keep you updated with the progress of this.
This week, we welcomed Miss Smith to our champion team and look forward to welcoming Mrs MacGillviray on 17th October.
Finally, congratulations to Mrs Brito who welcomed baby Maria to the world on 28.9.22.
REPORTING AN ABSENCE DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAY
The school October holidays run from Monday 10th October –18th October. Our Calderwood nursery will remain open. To report an absence/share any information please remember to call the nursery phone on 01506 280070 as the school office will be closed.
ORDERING LUNCH DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAY
During the school holidays nursery lunch will be a sandwich option. You should continue to order this when you register your child in the morning.
WARM AND WINTER CLOTHING
As we transition into our Autumn and Winter months, please ensure your child has waterproof and warm clothes which are labelled. When your child arrives at the nursery their coats and wellies are to be stored in the muddy boot room to allow them to freely access the nursery garden. We understand the hardship for families at the moment, so if you need any support with this please do not hesitate to get into contact with a champion.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Stay and Play sessions last week, it was great to see you all enjoy the busy and exciting atmosphere at Calderwood Nursery and join your child in their journey.

- A reminder that Friday 7th by 11amis the last day to order milk for Term 2, requests after this time cannot be taken.
- For morning break, we would request that children please bring a light healthy snack. We are seeing an increase in larger snacks being brought at this time. For those children who forget their snack, we have fruit available outside the office.

Calderwood Compliments:
- Thank you to our Primary 5-7 children for helping us ensure our Champion Conversations ran so smoothly.
- Thank you to every who donated to our recent dress down day, we raised £474 which will go towards our numeracy Sumdog subscription for P2-7 and numeracy play resources for Primary 1.
- Our Ben Lomond children have been an absolute credit to Calderwood, planning a fundraising event for all things Primary 7. It’s no easy job to successfully run an event for over 350 children, in the rain! The event raised £417.98 and donations from local businesses raised £650 (Thank you to Stirling Developments, Taylor Wimpey and Linwater). These donations will be used to purchase their leavers hoodies, subsidise their residential trip and support end of year celebrations. Thank you to everyone who supported this event by donating items or money, the children had such a fun day!
- It was lovey to welcome so many families to our Calderwood home last week for our Champion conversations and hear your feedback on how well our champions know your child and the progress they are making.

Winter Clothing Donations
Sustainability Station
At Calderwood we want to do our bit to help our planet. We are setting up our uniform and winter clothing SWAP SHOP which will be located at the front door of the school next to the school office.
Parents can swap good quality school uniform and winter clothes or just take what they need.
There will be a selection of uniform in different sizes, winter jackets and wellies.
If your child has grown out of last years winter wardrobe and you wish to DONATE good quality:
WINTER JACKETS, WATERPROOFS, FOOTWARE or UNIFORM
Please drop it into the green buggy also located at the front door.

The Book Fair Update
Thank you very much for your contributions to the Scholastic Book Fair during our Champion Conversations last week. Due to the purchases made on both nights, we have received a fantastic reward of £961.22 towards new books for our school. This is an amazing opportunity that allows us to develop the reading books and clan libraries across our school. A massive thank you to all for giving Calderwood this fantastic opportunity. We are so excited about the impact this will have on reading across our school community!
Our Rewards
As a school, we are going to investigate and collect data on how our reward money should be spent. Our literacy champions team will work collaboratively with pupils across the school to gain pupils’ and champions’ views on what reading texts and reading genres we would all like to see as part of our learning. We are excited to update you on our journey with this!
Awaiting Orders
We are aware many of the books at the book fair had to be ordered in from Scholastic. We are still waiting on many of the orders to arrive. As soon as these arrive, all orders will be handed out to the pupils in school. We appreciate your patience with this.
