Tummel Clan have had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week Scotland! We took part in a number of quizzes and competitions including guessing the Champion book “shelfie” and designing our very own book covers. We even got a chance to create fact files and quizzes about some of our favourite reads – check them out and have a go on the Calderwood Loves Reading Teams page!
Book Week in Ben Lomond
Some wonderful learning took place during Book Week Scotland in Ben Lomond Clan.
During our Stag Starts, we participated in a range of creative activities based on our favourite books and our clan novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. We recreated book covers, constructed setting dioramas and developed character profiles.
During drama, we looked at various fairy tales and acted out the storyline from another character’s perspective.
As our current reading focus is questioning, we worked together to create a quiz centred around the stories explored throughout the week.
Our fun-filled week ended with a surprise visit from Miss Small who read to us during ‘milk and story’ time.

Book Week Scotland in Ben Lawers
Book Week Scotland has been a roaring success for Ben Lawers Clan! This week, the class embraced their love for reading by diving into their favorite books and bringing them to life in creative and exciting ways.
From designing fact files about their beloved characters to crafting colourful posters showcasing book covers, the students have shown just how much imagination and effort they can pour into their projects. It was wonderful to see their faces light up as they shared why certain books meant so much to them.
The fun didn’t stop there! The class got into the spirit of storytelling by dressing up as their favorite book characters. The classroom was transformed into a parade of heroes, villains, and magical creatures, creating an atmosphere of pure joy. Who knew you’d find Harry Potter chatting with Matilda or Paddington Bear sharing snacks with the Gruffalo?
To top it all off, Ben Lawers Clan created quizzes for their classmates. Testing each other’s knowledge on plots, characters, and authors, they turned reading into a friendly competition. It was a fantastic way to celebrate stories while learning from one another.
Book Week Scotland is about more than just books; it’s about inspiring a lifelong love of reading. Ben Lawers Clan has certainly shown how books can fuel creativity, bring people together, and, most importantly, be so much fun!
Families, don’t forget to ask your child about their favorite part of the week and what book they’d recommend to you—you might discover a new favorite for yourself!

Routines;
- Can you please remind your child that they should not have a phone or be using a smart watch in the playground in the morning or at the end of the school day. If your child is bringing a phone to school they should hand that phone to their champion in the morning to put in the device box, as they are not permitted to use it during the school day. If a child has a smart watch that is not on school mode, this should also be handed to their champion in the morning. (Children in Primary 6-7 clans who have permission to use Bring Your Own Device, also put their device in the box in the morning).
