Rainy Day Arrangements

It seems our luck with the weather might not keep up this week!
In the event of heavy rain in the mornings:
  • Breakfast Club will run as normal from 8:05am-8:25am.
  • Children should enter as normal through Glencoe or Glenshee gates after 8:25am
  • They will then enter school through the playground door (door in the corner) as below. There will be a champion at the door to help them.
  • Primary 1-2 (Mull, Orkney, Shetland, Bluebell & Bramble) will go to their classes, supervised by champions.
  • Primary 3-6 (Ness, Rannoch, Tay, Ben Lomond and Ben Lawers) will go to the Breakfast Club area, supervised by champions.
  • Any child arriving later after 8:45am, should enter through the main office doors as normal.
If there is heavy rain at break and lunch times, the children will be able to play in their clan rooms, supervised by our champions.
Tomorrow, the school gates will open at 3:05pm for collection.  A gentle reminder that following Scottish  Government guidelines, adults (unless you are exempt) should wear masks in the playground and at the school gates and there are no dogs permitted in West Lothian playgrounds.

Booking a Champion Conversation

Dear parent/ carer,

Apologises for the delay, our internet crashed after school (the joys!)

Please below 2 attachments with all the information you need about about booking a Champion Conversation next week. Sorry, this information has came out later than planned, we do however feel it is important we have these meetings before the October holidays, so you can discuss with your child’s champion how they have settled in to life at Calderwood and next steps in learning.

Kind regards,
Miss Burton

In Calderwood Updates/ Reminders

Dear parent/ carer,
Just wow! What a week it has been for our children, champions and community! It has been a complete privilege to share this moment in history and plan our opening events, so that our children will have these memories for years to come.
We are currently working on a Sway so we can start to share some of the experiences from this week with you. Sorry for the delay, as I know you all very keen to seen some photos, we have just been so engrossed in making these memories with your children.
The generosity from our families, local community and local businesses has been truly overwhelming to ensure we have been able to provide such a momentous week for our children. Thank you to everyone involved.
Just a few reminders for tomorrow:
  • It is a dress down day, for our Let’s Glow Calderwood Party, children can come to school in their own clothes, we recommend bright clothes.
  • Also a reminder of the times for pick up:
  • – 11:50am: Mull, Orkney & Shetland
  • – 11:55am:Bramble & Bluebell
  • – 12:00pm: Ness, Rannoch, Tay, Ben Lawers & Ben Lomond
From Monday, all children can be collected at 3:15pm and 12:00pm on a Friday.
Thank you for your support and patience as we adapt to our new routines.
In the morning the playground is for children only. The reason for this is because all children have access to the playground in the morning. There are champions in the playground to support and supervise the children playing.  If children are cycling or scooting to school, they should disembark at the gates.
At pick up, we would appreciate it if you do not enter the playground until the champions open the gates. This is because clans may be learning in the outdoor areas. We would request that younger children disembark their bike or scooter until they are out of the playground area. Unfortunately, we are still unable to use the grass areas. I would appreciate it if you could share this information with whoever collects your child/ ren.
Mrs Blair has been working very hard to get our booking system up and running for you to be able to book appointments for Champion Conversations next Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the majority of families voted for video calls. We will update you tomorrow and are hopeful that we are almost there with setting up this new system for our school. The delay in this has been outwith our control, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
I am very excited to share the celebrations with our children tomorrow, I obviously have my neon stag t-shirt at the ready!
Have a lovely evening,
Miss Burton

Into Calderwood – Shetland Clan in Calderwood

Shetland Clan have said goodbye to East Calder Primary and are ready for their new adventure in Calderwood! Over the past five weeks we have learnt new things, made lots of new friends and explored different situations in our play. Most importantly, we have had great fun doing it! We are so excited to continue our adventure in our new school.

As part of our transition into our new school, during writing, Shetland Clan drew themselves in Calderwood. We developed our understanding of how to share feelings and ideas through pictures. We focussed on adding detail to our pictures, ensuring what we drew was relevant and specific. Some of us even labelled the different parts of our picture. We also discussed the use of capital letters, full stops and finger spaces during this. With support, Shetland Clan even wrote a sentence about their drawing (and added their own title)! Miss Greig was very impressed with their determination and focus.

As I’m sure you can see from these drawings, our Clan can’t wait to be in Calderwood together. We have had a very successful start to the school year in East Calder and are ready for our new and exciting adventure in Calderwood.

Thank you for your commitment and continued support,

Miss Greig and Shetland Clan

Opening Day Reminders

Dear parent/ carer,
The excitement is building in our champion team as our opening day is almost here!
We have made two videos to celebrate the end of our chapter and the start of a new one that we would love you to share with your child:
Can I please make two pleas to help us ensure that Wednesday goes to plan:
  • Please try to have your child at school on time.
  • I fully understand that is very tempting to wait around on Wednesday morning to see the red carpet entrance but you will recognise that schools are still following some Covid restrictions, which includes no gathering at the school gates. Can I please request that you keep the walkway from the playground gate at the car park entrance (Glencoe entrance) to the school entrance clear, as the children will walk along there to enter the building. We are recording the event and taking photos.
A reminder that everything you need to know is here: https://sway.office.com/nHvvCqDBstrI4JRs
Our office phone number is: 01506 280060.
I look forward to seeing our children on Wednesday.
Kind regards,
Miss Burton
