Calderwood Compliments:

  • This week we celebrated the contribution Miss Miller has made to Calderwood through a special connects, where each clan shared their memories of her, songs and memory cards. There is definitely something special about starting a school & nursery together and I would personally like to thank Miss Miller for all her help and support on our Calderwood journey, it’s been quite the experience together! Especially her leadership of our nursery and Primary 1, creativity within our curriculum and focus on Health & Wellbeing. I would like to wish Miss Miller lots of luck in her new adventure! Her caring, nurturing personality and friendship will be greatly missed at Calderwood.  Miss Burton

  • A message from Miss Miller: What an emotional farewell this week. I have loved celebrating with our wonderful children, champions and families. I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, gifts and support. I am proud to have been part of the Calderwood journey, starting the school from the ground up has been an amazing experience. Building special relationships with children, families and champions has been my favourite part. Your children are a credit to you all, I am privileged to have worked with every one of them. I will treasure the memories and miss everyone dearly. I wish everyone at Calderwood the best for the future as you continue to grow and develop!

  • staff look after them and make them feel safe : “all staff are approachable”
  • an ethos of community and kindness within the school: ”We don’t just take care of ourselves, we take care of each other”
  • they have at least one trusted ‘champion’. They spoke about other ways they can share worries such as emotional check-ins, worry monsters, worry boxes etc.
  • school helps them look after their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing through HWB lessons, assemblies and activities
  • they learn about keeping themselves safe by using online, bonfire/firework, road and personal safety strategies.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend!

Calderwood Communication (for information):

  • You will understand as our school continues to grow, we currently have 382 children across 14 clans, champions, children and parents all play their role in helping our routines to run smoothly. We understand that emergencies crop up over the course of the school day and changes might need to be communicated at late notice. However, there are some routines that we require families support with:
  • If your child is going to be absent it is your responsibility to contact the office before 9am to report the absence. This can be done by email, phone or leaving a voicemail. Failure to report an absence will start the implementation of the West Lothian Safe Arrival policy, which may result in social work or police being contacted. We also recognise that we need to continue to procedures are accurate in terms of absences.
  • Try to encourage your children to be organised for the school day with their jacket, bag, lunch box, glasses, musical instrument, etc.
  • We email out the calendar and any actions for families every Friday, we also email reminders of important deadlines. We would request that families keep an eye out for these emails, such as EE2, photo, events, reminders, so that your child does miss out.

Calderwood Communication (for information)

  • Today we marked the first anniversary of the official opening of Calderwood Primary and Nursery by launching our Calderwood Capsule Challenge. All clans have the opportunity to record their magic moments from Calderwood, why we are unique and future dreams. We look forward to seeing what you all come up with!
  • We are aware that there are proposed strike days are on the same days for Champion Conversations and Clan Connections, we will make a decision early next week if we need to reschedule any events, and keep you updated.
  • If your child would like to play on the grass areas at break and lunch times, please ensure they have outdoor shoes to change into, as their feet may get wet. You might also want to include a change of clothes in their school bag.
  • A gentle reminder that lunches should be ordered on iPay at home, this includes noting if your child has a packed lunch from home. Children take part in a range of Stag Start learning activities in the morning, therefore stopping them to order their lunch interrupts their learning time and uses unnecessary admin time. Friday packed lunches should be ordered by 9:30am on a Thursday. Advice on how to use iPay can be found here.

Calderwood Compliments:

  • Tummel Clan shared their learning about Scottish Inventors with our clans and their families at Calderwood Connects. What an informative, engaging, creative performance!
  • This week saw our first ever Calderwood residential, with Ben Lomond going to Lockerbie Manor for two nights. The clan demonstrated a have a go attitude, resilience, determination, but most of all, had fun making memories. Thank you to all the champs who made this residential possible. We have some photos on Twitter and will make a sway capturing their adventure very soon.
  • Thank you to West Lothian College and their HNC CP students who worked with some of our children in the forest this week. Fantastic examples of team working, den building and snack making. We can’t wait to use this to develop outdoor learning in our school.
