Calderwood Compliments:

  • Our clans have all enjoyed their Christmas Parties over the past two weeks. Thank you to the Parent Council for providing our Christmas Party food and snacks, and for organising a visit and present from Santa and Mrs Claus for our Primary 1 and 2 clans.
  • A huge well done to our Primary 2-7 clans who entertained our community at Christmas Around the World last Friday.
  • Merry Christmas from our choir!
  • Our Primary 4 clans held their own Christmas Fayre this week, selling items they designed and create as part of their interdisciplinary learning.

It’s hard to believe that we have had our third Christmas together at Calderwood, time really does fly. As a community, we have achieved so much together in such a short space of time and I am forever grateful to our champions, for all they do, to make a difference for our children. Thank you to our families and the community for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated. I hope you all enjoy the holiday period and I can’t wait to see where 2024 takes us!

  • Primary 4 clans had an exciting excursion to Dynamic Earth this week, thank you to everyone who organised the trip and to our parent helpers for their support.
  • A huge congratulations and well done to our Primary 1 clans for their fantastic Ready, Steady, Elves Show. Their confidence, singing, dancing and acting was fantastic! We loved how they all performed with a smile on their faces. Thank you to our champions for making this happen!
  • Thank you to Darren and Elizabeth from Kirknewton and East Calder Parish Church, who joined us at Connects last week to share the Advent Story.
  • Thank you to our choir, who have sang at all our P1 Shows this week!

  • A huge thank you to our Parent Council for organising our fantastic Christmas Fayre last week. Thank you to our families and champions wo helped out on the day. Thank you to our choir and musicians, West Calder High School and Trav for performing. Thank you to everyone who supported the event!
  • Our Bens clans loved sharing their learning with the P4-6 clans. Their IDL showcase was all about Global Conflict with each group researching and presenting a different related topic. They received lots of positive feedback from our pupils.
  • Our Christmas Lunch was a huge success this week! Thank you to our Kitchen, Office and PSW champs to helped to organise the event and to our Ben Clans for serving up the lunch.
  • Our clans were very excited to watch our Primary 1 clans Christmas Show, dress rehearsals this week! Thank you for letting us have a sneak peek.

Each pupil has 3 tickets per performance with dates and times as follows:

Become a Disney play leader

Dear Parents/Carers
If you have ever considered undertaking any training to get more children active please see details below of the Disney Playmakers course. It’s an SFA course designed to engage young girls with physical activity through storytelling and football – all linked to Disney movies. No prior football knowledge is needed!

Dates for the Play Leader training (note that all 3 dates need to be attended):

Session 1: Wednesday 29th November 6-9pm (online)

Session 2: Sunday 3rd December 6-9pm (online)

Session 3:  Wednesday 13th December 6-9pm (online)

No prior knowledge of football is required and the purpose of the programme is to build fundamental movement skills, to teach life skills and value and to develop football basics – all through storytelling!

Attendees will gain the SFA Early Touches qualification as part of the training.

If anyone from your school would like to attend the training, they can register by sending David Baird the following details, their:

UEFA Playmakers is a school-based session. Once trained to deliver the programme we will allocate Play Leaders to schools in their local community to deliver the programme for girls aged 5-8.

  • We are currently evaluating the impact versus cost of Sumdog, currently there is no access and we will update with any decisions we make. Mr Allan will join us on 13th November, as a Calderwood teaching Champion and will take clans across the school for teachers non contact time.
  • Mrs McCormack has joined our champion team, helping us at break and lunch times.

 

 

Calderwood Construction:

  • During the week beginning Monday 6th November, Morrison Construction have advised that the steel frame for the new extension will be delivered. This exercise will take two weeks and will involve cranes, working within the building site, to support the frame being erected. This will be another exciting phase in the construction process and we know the children will be interested to see the frame of the extension taking shape so quickly.
  • We are looking into the traffic congestion issues with the contractors in the surrounding areas of the school. A reminder to families that there is no parking on the Nethershiel Road side of the school, from Monday there will be cones in this area showing where there is no access to parking. Also, as our staff finish their shifts at different times, we would ask if you are using the carpark that you park responsibly.
