Halloween in Ben Lawers

In Ben Lawers we have had a wonderful time doing lots of activities around Halloween. We created Halloween poems in writing in the form of riddles and had a lot of fun guessing each others. In numeracy we have been solving and making our own Halloween code breakers, solving problems and matching the answers to a codex to reveal spooky words. We have been inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, who shares a birthday with our clan member Aarudh, and created Halloween versions of some of his most famous pieces. Finally we have loved creating a “Halloween Hut” outside our classroom full of our own crafts and sharing our Halloween costumes this Friday.

Ben Lawers – Description Writing 6.9.24

Hello Hello!

We have begun to explore description writing in Ben Lawers Clan. We have already written our cold piece to see how much we remember from last year. We wrote about our clan namesake, Ben Lawers.

ย

Then Miss Quinn gave us feedback based on the description targets for P5.

Next, we have explored the key language features and structure of a descriptive text while also learning about a French landmark, The Lourve. We have identified proper, collective and common nouns. We have tried uplevelling sentences with adverbial phrases.

Our next step will be to plan and write a modelled text together, we will write all about The Calderwood Estate!

Welcome Back Ben Lawers!

Ben Lawers have had a fab few weeks getting to catch up with each other and reconnect after the summer holidays.

We have been exploring the book “Our Clan is our Family” and we have been beginning to look at our new clan name, exploring its origin and history.

We have really enjoyed being creative together and investigating what makes us unique inside and out. We created “two-faced” artwork where one half of our face shows what we physically look like and the other half shows who we are on the inside.

We have been really enjoying all the new space in our outdoor learning environments and have been especially excited about the return of the trim trail.

Ben Lawers and Ben Lomond Leavers’ Celebration

Our Ben Lawers and Ben Lomond clans came together on the morning of the 26th June to celebrate their time at Primary School with their families.

The children chose to do an “Oscars” themed celebration and shared successes and achievements through giving each other awards.

Thank you to our Parent Council, who funded the gift of a personalised keyring for every child in Ben Lawers and Ben Lomond – we really appreciate this gesture.

The children gave a fantastic performance for their final Connects and we wish them the best of luck as they move on to High School!

Green Skills Circular Economy Challenge

This term, Ben Lomond and Ben Lawers have been taking part in the Circular Economy Challenge which is partnership with Young Enterprise Scotland. Pupils have developed their enterprising skills in a real-life context, giving them an understanding of the world of business, design and technology and have the opportunity to create a company, carry out market research, create a business plan and advertise their product or service with its own logo and tagline.

Last week, the Ben’s took part in a showcase event where each group pitched their business plan to a panel of judges. They were impressed with how knowledgeable and creative our young entrepreneurs were. Thank you to our wonderful judges for providing us with valuable feedback.

Business Ambassador Visit

Primary 7 have been taking part in the Green Skills Circular Economy Challenge. Each group has been working hard to create a sustainable product/service whichย  follows the Circular Economy principles. After working on creating the perfect business pitch, we were kindly visited by our Conor Gray from Morrison Construction, who listened to our pitches and gave us feedback. We will now be continuing to improve our pitches, in preparation for the final competition.

Glasgow Science Centre Learning Lab

On Wednesday 1st May, Ben Lomond and Ben Lawers were visited by the Glasgow Science Centre Learning Lab. We learned about different types of energy sources and took part in a number of exciting experiments. We then got to take part in our own investigations into different types of renewable energy. We would like to say a big thank you to Morrisons Construction, who kindly funded this experience for our Primary 7’s.
