Roots of Empathy

Perth Clan have been involved in ‘Roots of Empathy’ – The programme consists of guided observations of an infant’s development and emotions.  Perth Clan showed great kindness, patience and empathy throughout the project.  They enjoyed the regular visit from baby and mum.  Pupils related the baby’s emotions to the emotions of others.

Parent Council Thank You

A big ‘Thank You’ to the Parent Council who helped us to buy new reading books.  There was a wide range of books purchased for all learners across the school.  We added extra copies of popular collections and added new fiction and non-fiction titles too.

Primary 1: August Family Science workshops

In partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry, who have provided funding, Miss Connor is offering our new Primary 1 families the opportunity to take part in a Science workshop together when they start Calderwood Primary.
The workshop will allow for one pupil with one adult to carry out practical science learning together for 1 hour on a Friday after school. There are a number of dates/times available through August and September.
Please choose ONE date that you and your child can attend (pupils must attend with an adult, they cannot stay on their own). The form is here: https://forms.office.com/e/q9jsWDjGr8
There will be a maximum of 20 pupils (with their adult) attend each workshop as it is a practical session, dates will be removed once they are full. This is an exciting chance to be involved in your child’s science journey.

Capturing Calderwood: Learning, Teaching & Assessment: May 2024

Recently we had a Capturing Calderwood Day, gathering evidence about learning, teaching and assessment. One of our pupil council children shared ‘Our champions help us feel our learning in our heart’.

Thank you to Broxburn Primary for joining us.

You can see some of the evidence in the Sway below.

Dogs Trust Visit Bramble and Bluebell

Yesterday Bramble and Bluebell clans had a visit from Louise at Dogs Trust. The children had a fantastic time learning about the important work   that Dogs Trust do to help dogs find their forever homes.

During the visit, the children had the opportunity to compare human senses to dog senses, which was a fun and educational experience for all. They learned about how dogs perceive the world around them differently from us, which helped to deepen their understanding and empathy towards our furry friends.

The children also received valuable lessons on how to keep themselves safe around dogs, ensuring both the children and the animals feel comfortable and secure in each other’s presence.

Our visitors were very impressed with the children’s listening skills and their effective contribution to discussions. Well Done, Bramble and Bluebell!
