Calderwood Basketball – First Tournament

Calderwood Basketball Teams Kick Off the Season!

On Friday, our Calderwood Primary basketball teams took part in their first tournament of the season at West Calder High School. Both squads showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

  • Calderwood Hornets (P6 Squad) are currently sitting 5th on the league table.
  • Calderwood T-Wolves (P7 Squad) are holding 7th place after some exciting matches.

We are incredibly proud of all the players for their effort and enthusiasm. A big thank you to everyone who supported the teams and helped make the day a success!

📾 Check out the photos of both teams below!

Let’s keep cheering them on as the season continues, Go Calderwood!

Calderwood Ski Team – 1st December 2025

The Calderwood ski team performed exceptionally well yesterday at the Scottish School Snowsports Skier and Boarder Cross Race.

The course was particularly challenging—set over the Hillend freestyle section, with steep jumps and high-adrenaline twists and turns. We are incredibly proud of all the children who competed at such a high standard.

A special mention must go to Harper, who showed tremendous bravery in overcoming her fear of jumps to take home the gold medal.

For someone only six years old, Niamh was fearless and unstoppable. She is certainly one to watch—without doubt a future Calderwood star racer!

Ruairidh was his usual cool, calm and collected self, though even he struggled to contain his excitement when he learned he had taken 2nd place, grinning from ear to ear.

Results – P1–P4 Category:

Charlie and Aaron also deserve special recognition. Their age category is incredibly competitive, yet they demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, bravery and resilience, pushing themselves to compete at a very high level.

Basketball Team Update

We are extremely proud of all our basketball players today. Everyone played great, and we can see an amazing improvement and using the skills they have learned in training.
Well done to our Primary 7 team who won 2 games and a draw, and to our P6 team who won 3 of their games.
Amazing effort today!

Olympics and Paralympics IDL – Celebration Event

To celebrate the learning we have been exploring in our IDL Olympic and Paralympic topic we were very lucky to have a visit from Josh Manson.

Josh spoke about his experiences being a wheelchair basketball player, ran a basketball training session and even gave us a go at manoeuvring a wheelchair.

Click here to explore photos and videos of Josh’s visit and the amazing MacKintosh Clan taking part in the activities!

Huge thank you goes to Josh for all he did to support our learning and help us celebrate this interesting topic!

Basketball at Calderwood

Congratulations to all the players who took part in this years basketball club at Calderwood. From taking part in the training to turning up to tournaments we are so proud of your effort, determination and teamwork.

We have celebrated some great moments this year; our first win as a team, getting through to the play-offs for the west lothian cup and individual moments of achievement.

Miss Quinn, Ms Morrison and Mrs Bryson are so impressed. We hope to see you back at the club again after the holidays or joining the high school team. We are also really looking forward to seeing plenty new faces in the new term too!

P6 Cross Country Race

Thistle and Schiehallion clans had a fantastic morning out at the West Calder Cross Country Event at Polbeth United pitches.  They supported each other wonderfully and all children completed the race. To top off a brilliant morning, Calderwood Primary Boys were the winning team, coming first in the overall team event!  The top 4 boys will have the opportunity to take part in a further Cross Country event when they are in Primary 7.  Well done to all!

Aberdeen: Outstanding Olympians

In Aberdeen clan, we have been learning about the ancient origins of the Olympic games through our IDL focus, “Outstanding Olympians”. We were interested to learn that the upcoming Olympic games in Paris were inspired by the ancient games held in Olympia around 2800 years ago! We designed modern Olympic logos to represent the ancient beginning of the games and created short performances to re-enact a significant moment from the history of the games. Some clanmates also chose to build miniature Olympic stadiums inspired by ancient Greek architecture.

We have also enjoyed learning about some of the sports included in the Olympic games. In P.E., we have been perfecting our shape, balance, rolls and jumps in gymnastics. This week, we loved demonstrating our precision and agility on the balance beam!
