National survey on the expansion of free early learning and childcare in Scotland

As you may be aware, the Scottish Government is planning to nearly double the hours of free early learning and childcare by 2020.  The views of parents and carers are crucial for the success of this expansion, so the Government has commissioned independent researchers to undertake a survey of parents. We are asking for parents of 0-5 year olds in our community to take part in a survey.

All parents taking part will have the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw and have the chance to win one of 10 x GBP100 cash prizes.

Please see the link below to take the survey:

Low Port

Primary 5 returned this morning after a fantastic school camp at Low Port in Linlithgow. The children had an amazing time taking part in lots of outdoor activities. They had the opportunity to go sailing, canoeing and even had their own Jungle Bash adventure. All of the children were brilliant at joining in and working as part of a team, they also represented the school in an excellent way and had wonderful manners. I think that they are probably all on their way home for a well deserved rest!

Busy Bees in Primary One

When we asked the boys and girls to reflect on their learning this week, here are some of the things that they were talking about and wanted to share with their families.

They thought they had all done some super handwriting this week.  They are focusing on pencil control and letter/number formation.  We also had a good look at the United Nations Rights of the Child and are preparing to create a class charter on the basis of those rights. We talked about all of the ways that we can work together for a safe and happy class and school and will incorporate these into our charter.  We heard the story of the ‘Lost Sheep’ that helps us understand that we must care for each other.

On Wednesday afternoon, we took advantage of the beautiful weather for some exercise and play outside.  It was fun for us to use the outdoor play things and to play together!

We learned to throw numbers and use bunny ears during our number sense lessons.  It is really a fun and active way to learn about number.

The pupils did really well for their first full week and we are very proud of them.  Think we are all ready for a bit of rest and relaxation this weekend!

Respectfully,

Mrs Clegg and Mrs Gaspar

We All Fit Together…

Hello from the all-new P3 class at Bellsquarry Primary School.

We are a brand-new class made up from two sets of last session’s Primary 2 classes.  We are really excited to all be in one class and we fit together like a lovely big jigsaw puzzle.

We have been busy this week thinking about what makes a good classmate, friend and teacher as well as working on our Growth Mindset and Class Charter.  We are aiming to build a great P3 community and we are looking forward to the year ahead.

Primary 7

Hello from the new Primary 7 class.  We have all really enjoyed our first week back to school which has been very busy.  Something we have particularly enjoyed this week is seeing our buddies again and supporting them through their first week at Bellsquarry.  We are looking forward to spending more time with them and encouraging them throughout their P1 journey.

Also this week we have spent time getting to know our new class teacher, Miss Hood.  We wrote pieces of writing about ourselves so that she could get to know all of us a little bit better.  These pieces of writing will form part of our first display in our classroom.

We are very excited about the year ahead and have so much to look forward to, such as camp, the Burns Supper and our class topics, the first being WW2.

Watch out next week for our next update!
